I appreciate REI's complete transparency with this channel - rather than using influencers to hawk product. It is impressively low-cringe and the promotional points are integrated beautifully, which makes me tip my hat🎩 to not just Miranda, but the marketing (or whatever cute term you have) team. Anytime I DON'T notice the marketing team in content like this, I realize, well done, marketing team.

It’s great to see you accommodate for everyone’s needs when often I feel like the attitude with outdoors is that you have to power through discomfort. Of course, sometimes the discomfort can be fun but it is in no way a requirement to being outside! By making outdoor activities and spaces less intimidating by valuing comfort, you make them accessible to more people, which is always a win in my book!

"Imperfections are what make these trips so much fun and like make them so memorable.." This is the soul of camping imo, we can only prepare but never able to control all the elements in the trip. I'm so happy to see Miranda in the Adirondacks, and showing her friends that outdoor activities are fun and approachable from any skill level. As someone who lives in the ADKs, I'm always surprised when people who grew up here tell me they don't enjoy the outdoors. I think a lot of people see hiking, camping, canoeing/kayaking as scary and difficult, so I love that Miranda shows how it can be fun and comfortable too.

That's a really cool idea! A channel I LOVE is called Learn Your Land, sounds generic but that young man is highly educated and so passionate it's infectious. Like he says himself though foraging takes proper knowledge and varies drastically from one forest to another, even within the same forest. I think something like that would be outside the degree of what REI could cover in a video without also taking on some form of legal liability. I would really suggest checking out Learn Your Land though, really a gem and you will learn a ton about foraging and the risk and education it entails. Highly recommend!

I have to chuckle re the foraging idea... For my presentation to be a certified museum/nature-interpreter, but couldn't do a program without running into too many liability & legal issues. Even when you've got a super safe, super easy-to-identify plant, so many public spaces are no-zones for foraging, even if it is allowed by common practice. Turns out teaching anything specific about wild food gathering is fraught with complications. I would love to see this kind of content if ever possible, tho. Foraging is one of life's greatest delights & has become a core part of my spiritual & personal growth journey.

For me the best things in this video were how everyone was able to be open about their fears and their willingness to face them with the support of their friend Miranda. Miranda you brought out the best in them, they brought out the best in you, your concern about the weather/lightning was real and I’m sure everyone felt better having a sleepover instead of being scared all night in the rain, thunder and lightning. Superb job on this video from everyone on the team!

@@rei *screams giddily at being called out by REI* Well, I'd have to say hiking is the big thing I do in the ADK. I'm an aspiring 46er, and the high peaks are simply a great experience in so many ways. After that, the food! I really enjoy visiting all the local breweries and restaurants. As a cub scout mom I feel for Miranda so much! Taking on all the mental load of planning activities and menus, AND equipping a weekend just to have it foiled by weather! Mother Nature has a way of humbling even the most prepared, but oftentimes the fun and the memories lie in the overcoming of challenges and the Tim Gunn moments of making it work. If you haven’t mumbled “well, duck” while camping, you’re doing it wrong.

I love sleeping in a tent during a storm. Somehow the feeling/sounds of rain and wind are great for helping to sleep. I rarely sleep well at home without melatonin or something else, but the fresh air and sounds of nature help me calm down and relax. Sometimes I just take a book, a lantern and a tent to relax in nearby parks and beaches. Once spent a week sitting on a beach just reading and fishing (didn't catch anything the whole time) which is something I want to experience again and again. E: The stars and Northern lights are so pretty outside the city.

.... OUTSTANDING OUTING !! ..This is what friends do with and for friends !! .. You all looked like it was a very positive experience ... having the cabin nearby was a real bonus .. .. I'll bet all these ladies go into the woods ,,,take on a trail and who knows ,, make these kind of adventures a regular thing .. .. Nature is amazing ,, good friends are amazing .. nothing wrong with the car camping outings ,, adapt and enjoy ... ..Amanda ,,you put together a great time and experience for a group of friends you cherish ... memories forever ..

Love these, I think I’ve binged/learned so much from Miranda. Still haven’t been able to go backpacking (a little scared to go alone) but actively looking for safe female groups for the big day. Meanwhile learning and preparing. Can’t wait. Thank you Miranda/REI

Wow, wonderful video. Almost reminds me of that movie, "Meatballs". I used to go to Harriman State Park [it used to be part of Bear Mt State Park] for 8 weeks of summer camp when I was kid. Did this for 4 years straight. Always had a wonderful time. I loved the fishing, overnight hiking, sing-a-longs, boating, and canoeing. Loved the regattas and softball games too. By the way, has anyone ever told you that you bear a striking resemblance to "Michael Carbonaro"? You know, that guy from the hidden magic TV show. Something about your eyes and smile. Anyway, you guys are wonderful. I just love a woman without conceited vanities and who loves the great outdoors.
