Definitely original. They leave it to remember what not to ever do again. So glad you could enjoy yourself! I saw the flags. Gave me chills. My family was a few hundred miles inland fleeing Poland. Thanks for taking us to the beach.

My father landed on Omaha Beach at approx. 0.00+9 hrs still under very heavy fire. The barb wire you see on Utah Beach is still part of the German defense fortifications that were not totally removed by allied forces. There are still active mines on the beaches, usually underneath the berms. Treasure hunters still actively look for them with metal detectors

Hey you two! You are living out so many people’s dream of living off grid! You deserve a vacation after all of your hard work. I’m glad you kept the video light and airy with no history stories. Your videos help me relax and the beauty of your surroundings and in your souls takes me away from my pain and suffering, living with a chronic illness. So thank you, for being YOU! PS Jake, not a fan of lots of rice and your rolls were perfect!🌻

Relatives from Northern Maine and New Brunswick, Canada spilled blood on those beaches. Being French speaking they were used heavily in the fight to free France. Relative were also paratrooper with the Airborne and one was a pilot downed. Some of the names are Pelletier, Laplante, Charette, Levesque, Ayotte and many more. That barb wire is wartime remains. The waters of those beaches were blood red during the invasion. The American/ Canadian cemeteries are the resting places if so many. Hope you said a prayer for the fallen, " All gave some, Some gave all"

I'm guessing it is the same barbed wire that our soldiers had to crawl over and through to accomplish their mission. You don't see many beaches nowadays with lots of barbed wire lying around. You guys are so fortunate to be able to visit this historic and significant site. Thanks for attempting to understand what happened there.

I've only recently discovered your vlog and journeys and have really enjoyed them but, yes, I was a bit dismayed that you weren't aware of the significance of Normandy and Utah beach and the impact it had on all of our lives. You demonstrated just how sadly and easily the lessons of history can be forgotten without a proper education.

Veneil. It’s education all over the world my friend. It is lacking all over. I was at school in the 80s and even then the only way I would have learned about WW2 is if I had selected it as an exam choice. As it happens I chose social and economic history which taught me all about the industrial revolution etc. I only started to learn about WW1 and 2 after I had left school and just grew interested in it. Now I feel old and ashamed that the millennial generation are more interested in telling everyone not to consume animal products than learning how to prevent the past from happening again.

they talked about the invasion and the turning point of WW2. Their vlog isnt the history channel. So how many educated kids in Europe know how to live off the land in a pacific rain forest? I dont think is that big of a deal. You just seem proud about your own expertise on the subject and need to fluff your feathers with the hopes people will be impressed.

Utah Beach, the westernmost beach of the five landing areas of the Normandy Invasion of World War II. It was assaulted on June 6, 1944 (D-Day of the invasion), by elements of the U.S. 4th Infantry Division and was taken with relatively few casualties. In the predawn hours of D-Day, units of the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions were airdropped inland from the landing beach. They suffered many casualties from drowning and enemy fire but succeeded in their aim of isolating the seaborne invasion force from defending German units.

I can see the difference in their happiness and relaxed mood between there in France and now today. In my humble opinion I think it's they've taken on too much to where it's impeded in enjoying the here and now moments. Nicole was more vibrant, smiling more, happier, more outgoing and talkative then. He was more relaxed, kinder and less cockiness. We all change from experiencing life and with aging but if our joy is happiness is depleting for too long there's something that needs addressed.

Was born about 9 years after the war, but I would be standing there in awe and if I ate anything, it would be in the car. My guess is that's barbed wire from the war, but maybe not; It could have been used to keep people out until the beaches were cleaned up decades later. When I was stationed in Germany there were still buildings with bullet holes around the windows and blown up bunkers here and there. Even the old castles and watch towers made me stop and think it over. A picnic on Utah Beach. Right... Seems kind of like hanging your laundry on the Eiffel Tower or something. Except in this case a lot of people died there and bullets flew though the air right where you were sitting no doubt. That would give me something to think about. If you could transport to that time and have a look and then transport back unharmed, I bet you wouldn't sit down again. How much of those beaches would 9,000 bodies cover; there'd be one or three pretty close by. Not to mention the Germans who died behind you.

I did not intend to watch this video for a second time. I think I've already made a comment about you saying D Day accomplished nothing of significance so I won't do it again. I watched your meal preps with some renewed interest. I recently had some genetic testing done, the first in my life. I am missing a particular gene, a condition that about 7% of the world's population has. There are a number of things that the body cannot body cannot metabolize with this gene missing. Many of these are also very distasteful to me. Interestly, I cannot metabolize alcohol, which could be the reason alcohol tastes like gasoline if I put it in my mouth. One thing that stood out is that I cannot metabolize kale! It is also a plant that can increase the tendency to get depression if I eat it. The missing gene also affects personality and some of the research reads just like me. This experience has led to believe that the knowledge of genetics is a significant part of the future of health care. I was born too early to see what medical science is going to address/treat after I'm gone.

Ah should have gone for the moutarde (mustard) crusti crocs! As far as junk food goes, they're the best! If you had come to France just a few years ago, you would never have found any vegan options, in restaurants or shops. It's only in the past year or two that it's started to gain momentum.
