Definitely original. They leave it to remember what not to ever do again. So glad you could enjoy yourself! I saw the flags. Gave me chills. My family was a few hundred miles inland fleeing Poland. Thanks for taking us to the beach.
My father landed on Omaha Beach at approx. 0.00+9 hrs still under very heavy fire. The barb wire you see on Utah Beach is still part of the German defense fortifications that were not totally removed by allied forces. There are still active mines on the beaches, usually underneath the berms. Treasure hunters still actively look for them with metal detectors
Ohh it's so much fun and relaxing watching your videos! You guys are so inspiring and lovely! Keep enjoying what you're doing... and thanks for sharing your journey with us :) peace!
Hey you two! You are living out so many people’s dream of living off grid! You deserve a vacation after all of your hard work. I’m glad you kept the video light and airy with no history stories. Your videos help me relax and the beauty of your surroundings and in your souls takes me away from my pain and suffering, living with a chronic illness. So thank you, for being YOU! PS Jake, not a fan of lots of rice and your rolls were perfect!🌻
Thanks Jake for FYI of history., that was wonderful. Good luck and be safe in all your future travels

Such a fun video, Nicole was so happy the entire time..it was contagious 😊😊
Relatives from Northern Maine and New Brunswick, Canada spilled blood on those beaches. Being French speaking they were used heavily in the fight to free France. Relative were also paratrooper with the Airborne and one was a pilot downed. Some of the names are Pelletier, Laplante, Charette, Levesque, Ayotte and many more. That barb wire is wartime remains. The waters of those beaches were blood red during the invasion. The American/ Canadian cemeteries are the resting places if so many. Hope you said a prayer for the fallen, " All gave some, Some gave all"

Going to beach, enjoy u two and I hope this has also a nice day for u
I'm guessing it is the same barbed wire that our soldiers had to crawl over and through to accomplish their mission. You don't see many beaches nowadays with lots of barbed wire lying around. You guys are so fortunate to be able to visit this historic and significant site. Thanks for attempting to understand what happened there.

It is such a sad commentary that you had to learn about D-Day and Utah beach after you got there. I am amazed.
I've only recently discovered your vlog and journeys and have really enjoyed them but, yes, I was a bit dismayed that you weren't aware of the significance of Normandy and Utah beach and the impact it had on all of our lives. You demonstrated just how sadly and easily the lessons of history can be forgotten without a proper education.

Veneil. It’s education all over the world my friend. It is lacking all over. I was at school in the 80s and even then the only way I would have learned about WW2 is if I had selected it as an exam choice. As it happens I chose social and economic history which taught me all about the industrial revolution etc. I only started to learn about WW1 and 2 after I had left school and just grew interested in it. Now I feel old and ashamed that the millennial generation are more interested in telling everyone not to consume animal products than learning how to prevent the past from happening again.

chris hawk .... You say it’s the millennials but a different generation chose our curriculum and made the laws outlining what was in my textbooks. Millennials are always the scapegoat but people love to forget who raised millennials... my parents don’t complain about the millennials because they raised myself and my siblings correctly.

they talked about the invasion and the turning point of WW2. Their vlog isnt the history channel. So how many educated kids in Europe know how to live off the land in a pacific rain forest? I dont think is that big of a deal. You just seem proud about your own expertise on the subject and need to fluff your feathers with the hopes people will be impressed.
Nicole you won by far!! Beautiful roll. Maybe next time Jake! Very fun video...
Hi Jake and Nicole, I am french and I live in the south of France, I have been watching Jake's videos for several years and I love so much seeing you at this beach...and shopping at La Vie Claire !!! Thank you both for sharing your amazing trip ❤ Sophie

I started watching your videos a week ago. Thanks for doing such a great job. And yes her sushi was tighter.
Loved the bright colors on that dish
Like your adventure on working and traveling Would like to see more work and the beautiful countryside of France Thanks
Wow Nicole did create beautiful Sushi rolls ! I was guessing that both of theirs were going to fall apart Both were creative in their own way. Nice work . .

I'm quite taken aback by how little this young couple know about one of the most important days in world history! Maybe because we in Britian went through so much more that we were taught so much about the war in school? LEST WE FORGET

Thought the same thing. I live in the states and know my world history very well. Guess we had better teachers in the late 70’s. When he said the US and France landed in France I cringed. Plus Nicole calling every large body of water the ocean. Like the English Channel. Lol

Yeah, they f__ed it up, but I'll give them points for trying. While that seems like a participation ribbon of sorts, we have to give them credit for taking a shot. How many American millennials would do even that? Yep, none.

I'd have to agree such a shame the Millennials or younger generation doesn't know about D - day thats the whole reason they can be there right now and do what they want to do like building Yurts , ( freedom) it's not their fault though for not knowing it's the left liberal socialist pushing their agenda

I have been following you on off the grid. I am a 72 year old resident of Richmond VA retired and very jealous of you your relationship and life style. I wish I could somehow join you but it is physically impossible. I am dying of a rare debilitating disease which I have accepted as my fate see some humor in it and look forward to my remaining time. I too practiced tai chi until unrelated injuries caused me to retire. I ask that you allow the world to continue to share your story of love
That's so cool Nicole
the beaches were re-wired after the invasion in order that mines and explosives could be cleared and as this process took time they just left the wire up. Be good wire to last 70 + years in a salty damp environment.

German steel wire,,,
Utah Beach, the westernmost beach of the five landing areas of the Normandy Invasion of World War II. It was assaulted on June 6, 1944 (D-Day of the invasion), by elements of the U.S. 4th Infantry Division and was taken with relatively few casualties. In the predawn hours of D-Day, units of the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions were airdropped inland from the landing beach. They suffered many casualties from drowning and enemy fire but succeeded in their aim of isolating the seaborne invasion force from defending German units.

But when you started the day laying on the floor drinking ginseng tea you get what you get...blissful vegan ignorance. That said, I love this couple. 10:03 I see some yummy snacks! 2, to be exact! Nice melons!
I can see the difference in their happiness and relaxed mood between there in France and now today. In my humble opinion I think it's they've taken on too much to where it's impeded in enjoying the here and now moments. Nicole was more vibrant, smiling more, happier, more outgoing and talkative then. He was more relaxed, kinder and less cockiness. We all change from experiencing life and with aging but if our joy is happiness is depleting for too long there's something that needs addressed.
Yummy !! They both look great!! Thanks for sharing!☆

I like your videos I saw this one it's great what people are trying TELL YOU IS OMAHA CALLED BLOODY BEACH YOU SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY AND WATCH REEL STUFF ABOUT THIS AS THIS IS WHERE IT ALL TOOK PLACE THIS IS REAL HISTORY NOT SOME PLACE IN A CLOSET
Was born about 9 years after the war, but I would be standing there in awe and if I ate anything, it would be in the car. My guess is that's barbed wire from the war, but maybe not; It could have been used to keep people out until the beaches were cleaned up decades later. When I was stationed in Germany there were still buildings with bullet holes around the windows and blown up bunkers here and there. Even the old castles and watch towers made me stop and think it over. A picnic on Utah Beach. Right... Seems kind of like hanging your laundry on the Eiffel Tower or something. Except in this case a lot of people died there and bullets flew though the air right where you were sitting no doubt. That would give me something to think about. If you could transport to that time and have a look and then transport back unharmed, I bet you wouldn't sit down again. How much of those beaches would 9,000 bodies cover; there'd be one or three pretty close by. Not to mention the Germans who died behind you.
the water you kids wading in was actually red with the blood. of all allied men for freedom..js old man here... still enjoyed this video..

Your videos are very interesting
I did not intend to watch this video for a second time. I think I've already made a comment about you saying D Day accomplished nothing of significance so I won't do it again. I watched your meal preps with some renewed interest. I recently had some genetic testing done, the first in my life. I am missing a particular gene, a condition that about 7% of the world's population has. There are a number of things that the body cannot body cannot metabolize with this gene missing. Many of these are also very distasteful to me. Interestly, I cannot metabolize alcohol, which could be the reason alcohol tastes like gasoline if I put it in my mouth. One thing that stood out is that I cannot metabolize kale! It is also a plant that can increase the tendency to get depression if I eat it. The missing gene also affects personality and some of the research reads just like me. This experience has led to believe that the knowledge of genetics is a significant part of the future of health care. I was born too early to see what medical science is going to address/treat after I'm gone.
You to make the best videos just by being so real keep up the good work enjoy

Ah should have gone for the moutarde (mustard) crusti crocs! As far as junk food goes, they're the best! If you had come to France just a few years ago, you would never have found any vegan options, in restaurants or shops. It's only in the past year or two that it's started to gain momentum.
