Taking back Highland Avenue: National City embraces lowriders
More than 25 years after the city of National City banned cruising, the pastime returned to the South Bay city last month (on Sept. 21) as part of an inaugural car show at Kimball Park. Participants cruised down Highland Avenue in their treasured lowriders - customized cars fitted with hydraulic systems.
The sights were reminiscent of what the city’s thoroughfare often looked like on weekends before the city, concerned about crime and traffic congestion, outlawed cruising in 1992.

Highland was the spot back in the day, especially on weekends. Police started blocking the roads and harassing everyone, and ruined it.

Yaaay now all the cars worth money. In the 90 you spend $ 25k building a car and it's only worth $1500. I have never known anyone that owned a lowrider who wasn't a gang member.
This mayor is,completely INSANE, now our children will get to experience the weekend stabbings and shootings our friends and family had to endure growing up. You can say whatever you want, I was there. My mother still lives on Highland right by the Car wash. Idiocy at its finest.
