    The turn overbet with A10s and your explanation of that exploit. I tend to avoid making these types of bets in my microstakes games without the nuts.

    Hi Lex, thanks for the content and teachings. I really appreciate the insights to help me better my game. As an older player (I'm nearly 40) what realistic expectations can I put on myself in terms of what level I can achieve in this game? My ability to learn new things and retain information is clearly diminished compared to my youth so should I just solely focus on a recreational/semi pro play at micro/low stakes mtt's? My dream scenario would be to convert any profits from this level to put towards one or two live EPT's or similar events(s) every year. Is a win rate at the micro/low stake mtts achievable to fund this?

  • @LexVeldhuisTV

    @LexVeldhuisTV

    Hey James. That's definitely achievable. I think with age also comes better work ethic, a calmer approach, and less fomo to play high stakes. At least all of that is true for me haha. I think being able to apply concepts consistently already gets you very far. The good thing about it is, if you don't start with too much money and you start learning and just playing rom the ground up you can just see how far you get.

    cant answer cause, you miss a lot of information: Did the opponent something like this ever before? How big is your stack, are bountys a factor, what kinda image are u represting before that hand, is you opponent a nit, a fish, a lag or whatever? Is Bubble a factor? What kinda buy-in, what format of a tournament etc. That u missed out all these infos, just shows that u need pay more attention in the first place. Otherwise its just impossible to get any close to a proper solution. Its like you are asking someone: What do you want to eat? And the Answer is: Food... Not helpful at all...

    Lex, I hope you won't be boos when I tell you that the phrase ''often times'' is a redundant Americanism. The word 'often' is enough, as it already means ''frequently; many times''. No need to add ''times''. You are basically saying ''Ik doe dit vaak tijden.''

  • @keithmccormack7848

    There is nothing wrong or weird about saying often times

  • @emdiar6588

    @@keithmccormack7848 I didn't say it was wrong, just a redundant Americanism. Often times = often. It's odd to hear the 't' being pronounced, though. The word is pronounced ''offen'', but such is the influence of American English that I hear some Brits pronounce the 't' these days. 'Often' belongs to the group of words which includes listen, rustle, fasten, bristle, thistle, mistletoe, whistle, etc etc. We all stopped pronouncing the 't' centuries ago. America has reintroduced it for ''often''. Not saying it's wrong. Just interesting. I'm a Brit, but I speak fluent Dutch at the level that Lex speaks English. Occasionally a Dutch friend will point something out about some non standard phrase I am using, which as a non native I would never have realised. I was doing the same, and from a British perspective, ''often times'' sounds a bit 'folksy'. Again, not a moral judgement, just a fact. I wouldn't have mentioned it at all, or even noticed it, were it not for the fact that Lex uses it repeatedly in this video.

    @@keithmccormack7848 I just found this on some American academic language site, if you're interested: ''Even a word like “oftentimes,” which appears in modern dictionaries, seems dated and has musty, quaint overtones. It’s also a term that drives people crazy because of its apparent redundancy. But in fact, the words “oftentime,” “oftentimes,” and “oftime” date back to the early 1400s, and “ofttimes” was first recorded in the 1300s, so they have a venerable history.''
