Thanks to everyone on the comments I've been able to identify the cubes as: 1) Rubik's brand (obviously) 2-3) old shengshou 3x3 (don't think it had a name) 4) Sheng-En Type F II (one of the best cubes from back then as I remember) 5) WitEden Type C III 6) ShengShou Sujie

Extra style points for reusing the Puzzlcrate box!

The first Speedcubes (Type As and Fs and so on) are just basic Rubik's cube models modified. They would have ridges and some slight modifications. Usually people would swap pieces and cores with other types. And then the Guhong came along and the speed cube formula changed forever. :P

The one with the super beat up stickers is a Type-F II. The first Type-F cube was a bit more bubbly looking, and the third one had tiny florian-esque holes.

The one on the right of the thumbnail is the first cube I had. I got it like 7 or 8 years ago and a lot of sides don’t even move in certain directions. I didn’t even start cubing until January this year and I bought it as and antique shop but I don’t think it’s a real antique. The lady said her son couldn’t figure it out and gave up and I didn’t obviously either and it’s solved now so that’s cool.

Just got a WeiLong GTS2 M from The Cubicle. Not sure if I am going to like it more than my Z Magnetic. To be fair I haven't spent much time setting up the GTS yet. I also grabbed a QiYi Bullfight and ordered some slightly more more powerful magnets (than the Z or the GTS) from ebay for it. Going to have a little fun experimenting with this stuff.

The v1 Rubik's is still available in their online shop. I don't recommend anyone buy it, but it's there.

Old cubers? 2009!? Man, you are young! ;) I realize twisty puzzles are like electronics that are out-dated 2 months after release, but I started cubing in '80 - '81 when the original came out so 2009 does not seem old to me by comparison. Considering the evolution of cubes, I get what you mean by "older" cubes and you are correct. Still cracks me up though. Love your channel, keep up the good work. By the way, I got away from cubing for many years and just got back into it some years ago, but I'm not familiar with the specific cubes in this video. Sorry, wish I could've been some help.

I currently have a really old rubiks original, with the orange so faded it almost looks like yellow. I just started "cubing" again and was thinking of getting a speed cube since this old cube is really slow and without any sort of corner cutting. Do you happen to have any advice or suggestions?

I got that exact same black cube that you think is an older shengshou off of ebay ~7 years ago. IIRC It is a shengshou but I cant be 100% sure since I bought it off of ebay lol

It is a shengshou 3x3, my shengshou has that same mechanism

Unfortunately even as a really old cuber I cannot tell what those middle two were. The primary plastic one reminded me of a Ghosthand but it was a different mechanism than I had seen.

out of the cubes featured here, which is the best?

1) Rubik's Brand 2&3) Original Shengshou 3x3 4)Type F-1 5) Type C-3 6) YJ 3x3 version 2? The YJ v1 has those cheaply textured stickers, but I remember circa 2010 whenever the type C-3 was released that everyone not doing Dayan-knockoffs changed the outer designs into that more unified cubic shape. ✌🏻

My stickers are worn out on my Rubiks brand V1.
