Thanks for taking us on this tour. My dad’s ship sank in WWII, 8 survived, he was one of those 8. Adrift in a raft for 3 days and a Norwegian ship picked them up. Many years later, a German man came into dad’s business. Somehow the war came up and he told my dad he had been on the ship that sank my dad’s. He was just reminiscing with regrets about the war. Dad never told him he had been on that ship.

This one is special to me. My parents were in the Coast Guard during WWII and they got stationed at Pearl Harbor.... they met on Pier 11, and were together for nearly 70 years before dad passed....then mom a few years later. So anything about this part of the Island means so much to me. Hope you and your mom are having a WONDERFUL time!!!!

Hey Adam! The bird that looks like a roadrunner is called a Kolea (aka Pacific golden plover). They're actually incredible birds, they can fly up to 60 mph. They fly non-stop from the Arctic to the Hawaiian islands (back and forth depending on the season), a 3000 mile journey that they complete in 3-4 days!

31:47 I had the privilege to serve on the USS Missouri from 1989 until her decommissioning in 1992. Fun fact: the movie Under Siege had started filming when we were called to set sail for Pearl Harbor's 50th anniversary. Because of this only the exterior shots were done on the Big Mo. Interior scenes were shot on the USS Alabama. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Thank you so very much for your service 🇺🇸 Thanks for sharing your story, too. It’s amazing and wonderful that the Missouri was kept in commission for so long! My father served on the USS Casablanca, an escort ship that brought service members back home from the Pacific. His ship was decommissioned and basically junked immediately after the war. That always seemed odd to me - seems like the government coulda found something better to do with a multi,multi-million dollar ship other than trash it.

My Grandfather was stationed at Pearl Harbor back in the 70s. At the time, there was no bridge to Ford Island. The wives would have to drop the men off at one of the docks, and they would take a boat to Ford Island to work. My Grandpa showed me spots where he worked. There is also an Aviation Museum on Ford Island which is neat too from the WWII days.

That's very sad to hear. I was over there during the 60th anniversary/premiere of 'Pearl Harbor'. We watched the Stennis come in, salute and set up for the premiere and ran into a couple of sailors who had no idea what the Arizona was or why they were out saluting on the way by. The disrespect you speak of breaks my heart. 😔

The late Prince Phillip (Queen Elizabeth’s husband) was a young British naval officer, serving in the Pacific when the Japanese surrender happened. Phillip’s ship (HMS Whelp) escorted the USS Missouri into the Bay of Tokyo when the articles of surrender were signed - he watched the signing ceremony (via binoculars) from the Whelp’s deck. I just found that so interesting!

Grandpa was head maintenance in Pearl Harbor. We can see the ships from our house. My mom was ten and stood on the porch with my grandma and siblings watching and it was hard knowing my grandpa was down there. He made it, he retired and moved us to California. The poor bus driver had a nagging cough. And there's always a crying baby on the tours.😅 At least it's not a leaf blower...😅 I am enjoying your Hawaii videos very much!

Great you were able to get out to USS Arizona. Your mom is neat to mention Hawaii Five-0 - original - was based at Iolani Palace - she is so cool. Book em Danno🤙
