Taking a 1-Week ELEVATOR to SPACE in 2025?!

Hey Awkventurers!
Today we're going to be reacting to some exciting news I came across about Japan building an elevator that'll take things, and people up to space that'll start next year, in 2025 and supposedly to be completed by 2050! BONKERS! Let me know what you thought of the video and reacting to the news with me in the comments below!
Until next,
Awk

The space elevator is an old but fascinating idea. Until recently, the material technological limitations were one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. Although carbon nano-tubes seem like a viable solution on paper the development is still a ways a way on utilizing them on the level of need. That is only one cog of the giant machine too, and that is only from the scientific. engineering, and technological side of the project. What really mires down everything and has always been the case is the social, financial, and political bias there would be. However, if that can be overcome then it will take time, probably not my lifetime (bad for me, maybe good for you!). 2050 is being generous I think (this coming from my engineering and program management experience in technology). Although I have not read it, I have heard that Clark's novel "The Fountains of Paradise" is a good conceptual ideation behind the initial thoughts about bringing into reality the Space Elevator. It's a science fiction story about 40 years old now. Has a few awards behind its name and gave renown to Clark for a novelist. If you're really interested in knowing more, it might be worth it to peruse; especially if you want to know more about the basic ideas behind space elevators.

Sign me up! Although elevator music for a week might drive me nuts. Edit: I'm just now making the connection in my memory, this thing looks straight out of The Jetsons!

@@Awkventurer anything fall at that height is a disaster, the object (base on it shape) could land many many miles away from it base. what your main concern is if the cable break being that long it could easily wrap itself around the world multiple time result in millions of death. to make a cable 96000km from nanotube ... how are you going to carry it up there? impossible by rocket maybe hire Star Dreadnought Class for the job?
