In this video, I share 5 things I wish I knew when I started taking reference photos for my drawings. I know the process of shooting references can be intimidating, so I hope that these tips help you feel a bit more confident to take the steps you need towards shooting your own reference photos for your drawings. Taking full control of your creative process is so important for a successful art career and I explain in this video that it doesn’t take a lot to get started. I hope you enjoy it and, as always, it’s so nice to hear what you think!

Jono : "the look I really enjoy working with is quite a dark look " That's why I follow you. Always a fan of Dark theme art work and I have not seen anyone mastered that in pencil drawing other than you!

I am so happy I stumbled across your channel. Your videos are so informative. And your work is absolutely incredible . Your so so gifted.
For me the equipment isn't the hard part for reference photos, it's finding models to work with. I'm not really sure how to start that process. Do you have things that you look for when working with models? Is it through referrals or is there another way you go about finding models to work with? Love this series on your process. Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm really glad you found it useful! Finding the right model can be challenging because it's important that they feel comfortable in front of the camera. I usually work with people I know, but I often find that if you're struggling it's best to start by being your own model. Hope that helps!

You are my inspiration... I really wish I could meet you some day 🥺
As an artist myself I find your work so inspiring. I was wounding though, what are some things to know about hiring nude models for your artwork? Where do you find them? I have some big ideas and I would like to hire a model but I feel very overwhelmed and unknowledgeable about hiring a model. There also is not much information for artists about this topic. I think my only option is to speak to a life drawing professor at my university.
Beautiful drawing 👌👌👌👌

I've been doing hyperrealistic drawing for 3 years now and you're my biggest inspiration. Your work is just amazing! I only work using reference pictures found in the web (or taken with my phone) and I now feel the need to take control over the entire artistic process. I already know how to work with editing software like PS or LR and I want to take a leap and buy a professional camera. You said you currently use a Canon 6D which I know to be a great camera, but one thing surprises me. It's a 26 MP camera (I'm assuming you use the Mark II version): is that enough for such detailed and big drawings? I can imagine you need to crop your reference images, loosing a little bit of resolution. So, are the photos you take detailed enough? Do you take closeups pictures? What are your thoughts on that? Do you think a camera with more megapixels would work better in this case? Thanks a lot!
Jono...incredible work. May I ask, when drawing your reference picture on paper, do you use the grid method to ensure you get the dimensions/perspectives correct? Or just freehand?
Thank your types.... 👍
Inspiring!

how the hell your so good
Thank you for sharing Jono! I have a few questions, if you can kindly answer them, about the grid I find it a bit hard to make it precise if you know what I mean, is there a good ruler you recommend? How to make sure it is precise! Which pencil grade is best for the grid? Cause I even used a 2H pencil but sometime it is hard to erase! Is there a way to make sure the grid is properly erased without damaging the paper? Or wetting the paper will make the grid erase so much easier? When wetting the paper, Do I tape it only from 2 sides vertically or tape all 4 side? Is any MDF should do the job? Like a bit thin cheap mdf, or should I use a thick mdf to stick the paper on? How much the thickness should be? Thank you for your patience Stay safe
Hi, can you explain to me why do you wet the paper before you start drawing?
I'm so curious to know what you do with the photos after you've edited them. Do you make composites in PS and then print them out just as you're going to draw them? Or do you print different elements of the drawings separately and then composite them in a sketch? Do you make large format prints? lol I've got so many questions. Do you print the photos yourself or send the files off elsewhere? I'm sorry I'm just so fascinated.
@JonoDry
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the questions! After my photoshoots, I combine the elements in PS and I play around with different compositions and concepts. I find it helps a lot with my creative process and I'll often spend a lot of time before I decide on the final composition!
I really love ur videos, are you still going to make longer drawing instructions videos?
