Absolutely DO NOT DO THIS!!! This is a fire hazard!!! a) the graphite filings can migrate and short the I.C.'s, etc. b) by taking out 1 of the LEDs, you have made the voltage across the others a lot higher, also increasing their current and heating the load resistors. As the fellow below said, the tape won't stay stuck long!!! By the way, this assumes that the LED is what is bad - which actually is fairly rare. Most failures are due to poor driver design, chips, etc.

While I agree with you, I need to note that these bulbs have constant current drivers, so taking out one LED will not put higher stress on the remaining LEDs.

Isn't it about time that our governments passed laws to make it ILLEGAL to produce shoddy products? Don't we have enough junk polluting our lands and waters? These manufacturers DELIBERATELY DESIGN and MANUFACTURE products to FAIL so they can force us to buy new ones. THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.

@@kralg The very fact that the driver _is_ constant current means that the power dissipated in the graphite could be very substantially higher than that in the LEDs. A typical LED would likely be around 3 volts forward drop. Unless the driver has voltage limiting in addition to current regulation, the voltage across the graphite might go to well over 10 volts without the driver knowing anything about it. Thermal conductivity between the graphite and the solder pads would be poor and that is often what is required to remove heat from the LEDs. Drivers often do have voltage limiting so they shut down if the LED string goes open-circuit, but the "trip" point is likely quite a bit higher than the normal operating voltage.

@@juliusdelapaz128 ...ok, fair question. Here's the correct way - find the bad LED and remove it, solder in a new one! No graphite filings, no short or fire potential. Just a fully and correctly REPAIRED bulb.

Hola, como dice el titulo del video, toma un lápiz ordinario y estudie electrónica, es más sencillo cambiar un led u sustituirlo por un diodo común como dicen en algún comentario. Además de peligroso no durará mucho tiempo. El grafito es un corto circuito y los leds que quedan recibirán más voltaje que antes con el diseño original.

Are you wealthy? We're up against planned obsolescence. the bulbs are designed to fail the same day the warranty does. PENCIL a heavy black square around the BAD LED. The graphite is conductive. Leave the ball off, KEEP all the light. Taking the ball off lowers the LED temperature, making them last longer. Less heat PREVENTs your fondest fear. Just don't lick it.

This video suggests the individual LED’s are in a series connection. Bypassing one increases the voltage on the remaining which increases the burnout risk on remaining. I doubt this repair lasts long as the other LED’s will fail quicker by running hotter and brighter. The pencil graphite might offer some resistance and voltage drop but how long can it last with it heating up by some current passing through it?

LED driver circuits regulate the current through the LED's, not the voltage across them. Thus shorting out one in a string of several should work just fine. As someone else pointed out, this method has other problems. The tape will not hold long. The board the LEDs are mounted one will get very hot. A better, and easier solution is just to solder a short wire across the bad LED. BTW, I used to design LED lightbulb driver circuits.

Puenteando el diodo led defectuoso, al estar en serie con los otros, se les va aplicar más voltios a cada uno, por lo que lucirán con más intensidad y durarán mucho menos. Lo mejor es levantar el led defectuoso y soldar en su lugar un par de diodos de silicio 1N4007 en serie y con la polaridad adecuada. Y nunca trabajar con tensión sin la cúpula.

Já vimos dezenas de vídeos " ensinando " concertar esse tipo de lâmpada. Ora, os defeitos não são apenas os LED queimados e, conforme a montagem da lâmpada, não se tem acesso fácil aos terminais. Ao se retirar um led simplesmente, altera-se todo o circuito, causando o aumento da tenção elétrica nos outros led, o que vai em pouco tempo causar a queima de outro led. Então repete-se todo o processo novamente ? Os componentes do circuito da lâmpada também " queima " . Então vem aqui resolver os outros defeitos. Logo, não é " toda lâmpada " que pode concertar.

To be safe, measure the resistance across a good LED and use a similar resistance across the failed LED!

No. LEDs do not exhibit a linear voltage to current curve as a resistor does. Whatever resistance you measure on any diode device such as an LED is likely not represented well by a resistor. Not to mention the power dissipation may be too much for the resistor.

Saudi Arabia requires LED bulbs with twice as many LEDs but running at half the current. So they run cooler. And they are expected to last many times longer. The much longer lifespan easily offsets the cost of buying twice as many LEDs per bulb.

lo mejor es soldarle una resistencia de 50 a 200. primero hay que medir el voltaje total de salida, contar los leds, ver si estàn en serie y dividir. si cada led da caída de voltaje a 3 o 4 volts, la resistencia debe ser como de 50 ohms. si los leds bajan 15 o 20 volts la resistencia debe ser de alrededor de 200. si es un poquito más la lámarara brillará menos y durará años. en internet hay varias calculadoras de led online

Esa reparacion y todas las que se hacen puenteando el led dañado no duran mucho, hay que sustituir el led dañado por otro de in foco reciclado y si se sustituye 2 led por el dañado duran mas...

This should not be done by anyone with no knowledge of electricity or electronics repair. There is 110 Volts AC in that socket for the bulb that could kill under the right circumstances. Further, with the one LED shorted out, the other LEDS will be running with a higher voltage across them lowering their expected lifetime. At two bucks for a bulb that last for years, just buy a new bulb!

In Europa sind es sogar 230V. Außerdem mit dieser Brücke bekommt dieses System eine andere Gesamtspannung , was dazu führen kann das auch die anderen LEDs durchbrennen. Im Brandfall erlischt der Versicherungsschutz.

@@mymail4820 That's what I suspected. All the LEDs are wired in series. I just had a LED bulb that went bad. It was not any of the LEDs but the power driving the LEDs was missing. I have not taken the bottom section out of the case. At that point it might not be worth it since LEDs bulbs are not to expensive but I might do it just to learn a little more about it. The DC voltage that connects to the LEDs is pretty high.

@@n1kkri LED drivers are not complete junk regulate the current through the chain of LEDs. Sometimes there are series-parallel arrays of emitters, but they seem to be pretty rare in lightbulbs for household use. If you replace a single LED in a series string of several LEDs the current is likely to remain at the same level as it would with all the LEDs but the overall brightness will be reduced simply because there is one less in the string. You _could_ measure the string current by connecting an ammeter where the missing LED would go, but this is not something someone not well versed in working with dangerous voltages should do. Typically in these circuits there is no electrical isolation between the mains and the LEDs. Once you knew the current you could select a replacement LED or work out the value of a resistor to use instead. The graphite thing shown in the video is something I would consider dangerous. If the resistance of the graphite across the LED pads increases you could get a situation where the graphite became extremely hot, possibly igniting the plastic tape. I'd be surprised if the tape would stay in place for long anyway. Polyimide tape with silicone adhesive might last OK. In any case, that bulb's days were numbered. The insulating sleeve on the capacitor had "shrunk" which means the cap had run hot for quite some time.I would likely have little lifespan remaining. I spent much of my life designing industrial and scientific electronics and working as a consultant.

Ola!! seria muito bom realmente o grafite pois com arame ou qualquer outro metal vai sobrecarregar os outros leds e sua lampada queimara todos muito depressa.

Tanto tiempo para enroscar una bombilla, de verdad es necesario tanto tiempo ??? ¿Por qué no dice que es un arreglo temporal?

It's solution, but it's very unreliable. Just go buy cheap soldering iron and solder(both together under 30$) and solder across pads where the bad LED was. One thing that I should also mention is that once you do fix it properly IC will have to dissipate more power which might cause it to burn another LED if it overheats. One thing is for sure, don't buy cheap LEDs and they will last forever.

Why not just solder over it? The graphite can conduct electricity but it can build resistance. Resistance is heat. Heat can become fire. Why are there so many videos on horrible ways to avoid soldering?

Those domes do not come off easily.

Why on earth spend all that time repairing a technically obsolete LED -- how the hell much can a new up-to-date one cost?

Lo mejor es colocar otro led de patas o sustituir por otro igual de otra manera no dura mucho tardara a lo mucho un dia que otro led se funda por el aumento de la corriente ya lo hice y no dura mucho a lo sumo un dia únicamente
