Take AIM Episode 8 - How to rebuild your breakbarrel airgun

Спорт

www.airgunweb.com/take-aim-wi...
Finally, we have the opportunity to look at the basic process involved to break down, clean and rebuild a break barrel airgun. Today we will look at how to break down and rebuild the Benjamin Trail NP. We will also look at one simple step to safely improve the Crosman triggers.
Warning: Working on airguns is serious business. Do not attempt this without proper training and supervision. Any modification to your airgun will void your warranty. This video is provided to demonstrate the principals of airgun mechanics not as a complete "how to" guide to tearing down and rebuilding your airgun. As with working with any machinery, safety comes first. Do not attempt any of these procedures without proper training and/or supervision.

After being a machinist for 25 years and working on many triggers. DO NOT use a Dremel tool EVER on a trigger sear!!! The case hardening is only a few thousandths thick and you will grind through it. Instead, use a flat, hard, sharp edged stone and just POLISH the surface, without changing the angle This will produce a crisp and smooth release.

i have been looking at spring compressors for weeks to decide which one i was gunna make and after seeing the one in this video i have made one very similar to yours. i love the idea that i can leave it locked it and still work on the tube hands free. wanted to thank you for your video as well cause i just tuned my 1st rifle with your help . Now my Ruger Air Hawk is ultra smooth in operation and have increased power by 30%. i use the Vortek PG2 kit for my Air Hawk

Best video yet Rick! I've been watching ever since you reviewed the discovery and for some reason this just seemed to flow better, sounded more natural. My NPSS will be needing this soon. I'll probably go ahead and do metal bushings and a piston seal while I'm at it. Luckily I got a good one and I don't need to deburr the piston.

Thank you Rick. Just bought a .22 NP to replace my Titan. Didn't get the NP2 because I'm much more familiar with modifying the trigger on the NP. Also, the NP was on sale for $179.00. However, there's room for improvement. Just want to say thanks for all you do and let you know you're appreciated.

Hi. Thank you for this video. I followed it to the letter and was able to take down, clean up, and reassemble my brother in law's NP. Turns out it needed a new gas piston. I got one from Crosman and went through the entire procedure again. Now it won't latch when I cock it. The trigger and latch are seated correctly. Any idea what changed ? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

i don't know how i missed this video ! very very informative . rick , if i wanted a NP gun to shoot a little slower , quieter and smoother (fairly small yard and want to be very quiet without a silencer/muzzle break) .... could shortening the silver rod end of the gas ram by a 1/4 or 1/2 inch work ? and would it harm anything ? i know the warranty would be shot on a new gun doing it . wish i had gotten one of the low power titans when they were around :( thanks again :)

i bought an NP about 2 weeks ago, and put a few hundred rounds threw it. Now suddenly it keeps sticking closed and i cannot get it to break open. if i whack the bottom of the barrel it might break open with a hard hit on top after.I took a screw driver to see if the latch was stuck, but it pushed in easily.I put a little silicon grease on the lever but no difference. when it does break its smooth cocking. any ideas? its almost like the hinge on the push bar is locked and not bending

Everytime I pull apart one of my guns, I reasemble the trigger by slipping it on the tube, almost inplace, and using my finger to hold/lift the sear(while finher in tube) up while inserting it.Then push it foward and it holds inplace. It is so easy compaired to using a screwdriver or any other way.Hope that made some seance. Just slip on and put a finger in hahaha

Hello again, Rick... this is a "PS" to my comment / question below, in regards to your spring compressor. In looking at it again, I just noticed that this rifle has picatinny / weaver style rail & of course, corresponding mounts on the compressor.... will this set-up work equally as strong with just a 3/8ths "dove tail" as is common on many airguns ?? I rifles with all three.. picatinny / weaver / dove tail.... and so, would just have to swap mount rings, depending on the AG I'm working on ?? Thanks again, Rick.

I find it easy to put the trigger back in by holding the sear up and pulling the trigger so that the sear goes all the way up and holding it there with a small rubber band then once its on just remove the rubber band, and with a springer you shouldn't break the barrel open when the stock is off because it can bend your piston then that will break your spring, i'm guessing that dent doesn't make a difference with a nitro piston because it doesn't ride along the inside of the piston

2 to 3 thousand.. You don't need to do it often.. right when you get it (if you don't mind voiding your warranty) is not a bad idea.. it will help the gun last longer overall. Or if you like, shoot it stock until the warranty has expired and then rebuild it and go ahead and replace the piston seal while you have it apart. Cheers Rick

@weldrene It all depends on the gun. Some guns do it better than others for sure. Generally speaking, the more you spend on the gun, the better it will shoot and the longer it will shoot accurately. There are "tricks" that you can do to make a less expensive gun shoot better, but once you are done, you might as well have spent the money on the better gun in the beginning. Cheers Rick

Not really.. you actually want to cross hatch the ID so that the grease works optimally. Not sure on the hardness of the piston seal. If you want more power, accuracy, and ease of shooting, move to PCPs. You'll save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration. Cheers AGW

Good video, but beyond my capabilities. I have this gun but after only a little over 100 shots its blown the compression tube. My nearest Crosman authorized repair center wants $150 to repair it (IF he can get the parts from Crosman :/) For that price Id rather just buy a new (read: different) gun. The gun will fire but accuracy and velocity have significantly diminished. Is there a way for you to repair it for a reasonable price? BTW, its out of warranty. Thank you.

I believe it is a winner.. It is a capital thing. Thanks for the kind words. Rick

nice work rick great video but while you have you dremmel out why not break the sharp edge in the slot where the linkage runs it would be sliding a lot smoother. and get a replacment seal before you do a video and call it a re-build thanks

If is is under a year, then get with Crosman. If it has been after a year, they may have a repair center that they can recommend. Cheers Rick

Vortek kits only ever seem to improve guns that I've used them with. I would imagine the same to be true with their kit for the TX200. Cheers! AGW

Luis Vazquez + Seeing nobody has replied, may I suggest the Benjamin Prowler in .22?. Accurate. Does everything right. Be sure to include a good scope.

The TX200 would be a good one.. I did my R9 recently.. that was a nail biter for sure.. one thing to create a pile of parts from a $100 gun.. another thing completely to do so with a $400 or $600 gun. Rick
