With a 750 million dollar renovation on the horizon for the Carillon Dam, this could be your best chance to help restore this important species to its traditional territory. Write to your Provincial Government via your MPP to ask them to mandate the construction of an eel ladder as part of the Carillon Dam retrofit. Both Quebec and Ontario have plans in place to help this threatened species - now is the time to put them into action!

First of all, this was a really well put together video; the info was delivered quickly and effectively with pleasant visuals. I was just wondering, can anyone write to their mpp? I'm a minor but if I could help somehow that would be neat :)

Hi Jane, we are glad you liked the video! As for your question, yes, anyone can write to their MPP! Even if you are a minor, they are still your elected representative. You can also help enormously by sharing the campaign. Tell your friends and family about it, or help spread the word on social media. Thanks so much for taking an interest in this issue!

Kwey, Do you have an update about the potential of the installation of the ladder at the Charillon Dam? Are you working with Algonquin on this important matter?

Hi Lynn, thanks for checking in! Right now, we continue to work behind the scenes on this issue, and so don't have an update to share quite yet. However, we have been busy discussing the issue and potential solutions with Hydro Quebec, as well as various levels of government. All throughout our work on this issue we continue to share what we have learned with Algonquin groups, given their long history of advocating for this species, and important role as rights holders in the watershed.

Thanks for your question. We have been working hard behind the scenes to continue this work. We have met with Hydro Quebec, as well as various levels of Government to discuss the potential for an eel ladder at Carillon and build the case for why one is needed. As of right now, there is nothing we can share publicly, so we haven't been able to provide our community with a substantive update. However, rest assured that we continue to press on this issue and to build the relationships needed to make this a reality.
