Take a Marine Lab Tour at MMI Orlando, FL, Marine Technician School - Marine Mechanics Institute

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

See what it's like to train hands-on for a career as a marine technician as we tour multiple different lab courses within the Marine Technician Specialist training program at Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) in Orlando, Florida.
Within the engine lab, students learn all about engines, from precision measuring to internal components, in addition to disassembling and reassembling engines to learn general repair service. As part of the lower units / outdrives lab, students disassemble and reassemble lower units to manufacturer's specifications on stern drives and outboards, as well as learn about exhaust systems and cooling systems.
During the electrical systems lab, students practice problem solving electrical systems by running marine engines in test tanks, where they focus on stern drives and outboard engines. Within the 6-week diesel lab, students focus on the mechanics of diesel engines, comprehending how a diesel engine lives and breathes.
The rigging lab is where students will learn to perform procedures for rigging outboard motors, aligning sterndrive engines, instrument gauge installation and electrical hookup, and performing remote control and pre-delivery adjustments.
For students interested in working for a specific marine brand, numerous manufacturer-specific advanced training (MSAT) courses are included at MMI Orlando, featuring the brands Mercury Marine, Honda Marine, Suzuki Marine, Volvo Penta and Yamaha Marine.
The curriculum prepared at MMI schools is geared toward all students interested in joining today's marine workforce. No previous mechanic experience is required. Our students span from having zero prior marine knowledge to those who come from a family of mechanics and are looking to further their abilities.

So if I did this and was fresh out of trade school what would the pay look like? I know it’s probably not going to be the best at first but hopefully it will increase the more I learn

The school would be way better if they taught students how to tear down and rebuild motors, lower units, 100 or 200 hour services, full engine changes, electronics, etc… You will just get the very basics.

Do you offer, or can you recommend a marine mechanical program for a person preparing for long range cruising in retirement? I’m already competent with do-it-yourself maintenance, including fluid and filter changes, impellers, belts, hoses, grease, electronic upgrades, and similar. I’m hoping to get better at diagnosing and repairing motor related fault codes, and other items that could be repaired with tools and spares that are reasonable to have stored onboard. The goal is greater seamanship and self-reliance when venturing to cruising destinations where mechanical repair help is beyond 24 hours away. A example would be a retired couple traveling in a mid-range trawler in the 40’ range traveling from Seattle Washington to Alaska. Thoughts?
