Each week night, THE LATE LATE SHOW with JAMES CORDEN throws the ultimate late night after party with a mix of celebrity guests, edgy musical acts, games and sketches. Corden differentiates his show by offering viewers a peek behind-the-scenes into the green room, bringing all of his guests out at once and lending his musical and acting talents to various sketches. Additionally, bandleader Reggie Watts and the house band provide original, improvised music throughout the show. Since Corden took the reigns as host in March 2015, he has quickly become known for generating buzzworthy viral videos, such as Carpool Karaoke."

Well, you have to keep in mind that he's in front of an audience to whom that IS an interesting special thing. It may be common place to you but in most other places in the world that very much isn't the case and there's really no reason people would automatically know about it unless you tell them. I suppose they could have phrased it as something that's just a common Australian/ New Zealand thing, but maybe Corden didn't know that, and Taika didn't feel like giving a history lesson on a talk show lol.

@@mayaenglish5424 oh yeah I get that, I’m from the UK so it’s not a thing here at all. I know about it because of Taika, so I didn’t mean to try and sound superior as someone who has heard of it. I just find it odd (and concerning) that the idea of acknowledging native land isn’t that common in the US when it definitely should be

@@erin8432 As someone from the USA, the only reason I know about it is also because I like Taika so I get that lol. And I agree, it should be a more widespread practice for when people do things on other people's native land. Unfortunately the state of things like that, like most things in the political landscape right now, are very tense, complicated extremes with some people in the middle saying, or we could at least just be courteous about it and not keep actively slapping them in the face? lol Idk, the worlds on fire everywhere about everything. In fairness, I don't think film companies are really what the natives in the USA are really worried about, and I have no idea how much, if any filming gets done there. It's mostly pipelines and roads and construction where the real problems begin. (From my limited knowledge).

No offense but since Jim Gordon’s the Interveiwer, shouldn’t he have done research on Taika and know he’s native and maybe the ritual he does before a show was something that comes from his culture? I feel like finding that info would have been easy and wouldn’t have made it seem like Taika is doing some huge out of the norm ritual when he’s just, doing a common practice in his culture

And he never specified if he did it only when he filmed in AUS or NZ. He might do it in America when he shoots there for all we know. It's not a practice from his culture, but maybe the fact that he's Pacifica means he's conscious to pay recognition to indigenous people in the countries he works in.
