Taika Waititi and Stephen Merchant Break Down a Scene from 'Jojo Rabbit'

Ойын-сауық

Taika Waititi and Stephen Merchant break down a scene from their new film "JoJo Rabbit." They discuss the complications with melding comedic undertones and drama while trying to present the events of World War II in a new light. The film is meant to remind people of the horrible events that occurred during this time and to make sure we never forget.

Germans actually greet every single person in a group separately, regardless how many. In eastern Germany one will actually go around to 10 people and shake all of their hands. “Heil Hitler” was simply the accepted new greeting at the time, so this scene is actually culturally accurate.

I think it’s important to remember that this film is all through Jojo’s perspective. Of course he would look at his world and try to make sense of it through his imagination. All the silly quirks of the characters is because we are seeing through Jojo’s eyes. The first time he sees Elsa, she comes out of the trap door like a monster. The captain acts like a gunslinging cowboy. The gestapo have sickly sweet smiles. Even Jojo himself acts like the rabbit he thinks he is in many subtle ways. Critics can say what they want, but this film is beautiful. 🐇❤️

Meaning "You can't satirize serious subjects anymore." and "You can't be funny because if you offend anyone the "PC police" will come for you in the night." I for one am thankful Taika Waititi has proven these sentiments to be false.

“You can’t make a Mel brooks movie these days” is that the fact people misinterpret what even mr brooks meant, and say the jokes that offensive are punching down, when really they’re punching up. What they mean is, “I want to be racist and bigoted and have people laugh instead of remind me that’s not polite”

This movie is a perfect mushup of emotions , it can make you laugh so hard then planges you into a severe depression with a heartbreaking scene and somehow makes you feel a serge of hope by the end of the story . It's easily one of the best movies of the 2019 .
