My dad used to play this every sunday morning. I never knew what it meant, just that he would sing this at the top of his lungs. I didn't realize he missed his motherland so much. He passed away last year, and I stumbled onto this song. This song brings me tears and smiles, memories and good times all at the same time. Peace and Love to our brothers and sisters in south east Asia. We love and miss our Motherland, sincerely a Hmoob kid from Cali.

I really love this song too. How is life in Canada ? Sure it must be much better than in France. You have well done to emigrate to Canada. France is not the same as 20 years, especially security. It's so cool to know this song was written by an ethnically Taidam man in the Lao language since his Taidam family migrated to Laos. The song became popular in Laos and Thailand. I found out a Hmong version was also created. It's amazing that it connects Taidam, Lao, Thai, and Hmong people.

I visited Sonla, Vietnam in 2019. There are still a lot of Thai Dam people living there. It's a classic.

Love this song. It tells a very good historical story of Tai Dum and all those who immigrate to Laos during the war. We, Lao people need to unite love each other no matter what part of Laos we are from. Lao Mhong, Tai Dum, Vientiane, where ever! This song made my heart beat so hard as a Laotien of ethnicity Hmong, I believe we are away from home far too long. I left Laos when I was only 10 years old, now in my middle age where I consider myself a sage and kind of wealthy, my heart still cried in my sleep. No shaman nor doctor could help, only the song Champa can soothe my pain. That’s when I realize that I missed my Homeland. When would lanxang open arm to its elephant for it wish to lay under Champa root for it last journey?

All our aunts or uncles are here in the USA now. All other relatives are dead or missing. Our family's roots to Laos has been sundered. It's too bad now that I am grown, and finally want to visit the ancestral homeland of our people that there isn't a real connection anymore.

My native language says 'sip-ha bei' for 15 years, 'ha-sip bei' for 50 years. This 'ha' is very unique to local people, and it is not the main-stream Han language in China.

My mom is 1st gen and lived in refugee camp as a child, as im typing we're having karaoke for 4th of July and we just sang this song. I love that it has subtitles and romanization so I can sing along. I love the history that got incorporated into the song.

Brings tears to all our eyes my Lao brother. 35 years ago I was born in a village in Xieng Khuang. My family own water buffalos and rice paddies. We farm the hillside and the rice paddies in the valleys. I was 6 years old when we crossed into Thailand. Just up and left everything there. I remember too much and it's too painful. I don't want to go back there, but in my heart, there is always a magical place that I will always long for and remember.

The English translation might not be perfect, but this is the most accurate that you can't find anywhere else. The song is a story of my parents and thousands of Tai Dam people who had fled to Laos during the first phase of Vietnam war.
