There's actually a documentary for his concert behind in Japan and there is the clip of him suggesting the bands to his choreographer. And there are some really amazing moments of Taemin and staff working around 3 languages to come up with ideas and just how involved he was at a decently young age. Because he is in SM I think general fans don't truly know how much he does due to SM stereotypes.

Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers. Taemin is Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references. Fun fact: That's not just any female dancer. The female dancer that you see highlighted in the MV is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (She was a trainee for about 7 years.) She also participated in some live performances of "Want." If you like his dancing in the MV, you have to see his "Want" dance practice video to really understand how intricate and breathtaking Taemin is with this choreography. No one moves the way Taemin does.

My favorite thing about Taemin’s music… Where do I even start…? First of all the music itself - I absolutely love songs that he chooses to perform - the diversity, the intensity, the vibe, all shades of different emotions - it’s all there in his music. I immensely love the style of his solo releases. The other thing that makes his music so special is him - his personality, his expressiveness, emotionality, vocal diversity. It’s like he portrays all those different characters with his emotions and his gorgeous voice. Yes, that’s the most important to me. The whole performance aspect - the dancing - is actually only an addition to the musician/artist that Taemin is. Being at his concerts, seeing this incredible show that he puts on I still have to say I was moved the most by his hauntingly beautiful ballads… I just love everything about him. There’s no one else who could replace him for me, absolutely no one else… Thank you for this nice birthday vid.

I agree with you that his music is made to be listened to. That's why even when I'm working I enjoy listening to his songs. He has brilliant musicality and artistry. Like most of the elements that I like in his performances are all actually his ideas! Also, while he is an exceptional dancer, it was him singing a ballad with the emotion I can feel despite the language barrier that I became a fan. He is stunning performer but at the same time a truly gifted storyller.

To me, Taemin has identity as an artist. It’s authentic in a manner that he has an ‘it’ factor about him where you just know only he would risk. I love that he is more unorthodox with his music and dance. Doesn’t follow mainstream and doesn’t create music for the sake of it. I’ve been listening to Kpop since the late 90s and the reason why I enjoy Taemin (and SHINee) is due to their musicality and delivery. I absolutely love how they bring in the old school sound and somehow makes it fresh yet nostalgic.

Sometimes I go awhile between periods of watching Taemin content. But I always come back and remember why is a one in a million artist and performer. I have so much respect for this man and the body of work he has created. Yes, it’s K-pop, and there are surface level things about it that work really well and get received well by the general public, but Taemin always has an additional level (or two or three) of meaning and symbolism and nuance that takes a few watches and or listens to decipher. Like just this time I noticed all the distorted fish eye lenses used in the Thirsty MV along with the monochrome outfits meant to draw focus to Taemin’s dance and (ahem) body, to when he does the dance choreographed to be seen from above, it’s all about him being in focus, the one drawing your attention, the one you’re watching on a screen. He has curated this perfect image and knows exactly what he does to his viewers, with that performance or any other. Anyway, I could rant about Taemin for hours and hours, thank you so much for the react and being as appreciative of his artistry and I and so many of his fans are. 🙏🏻

Definitely Taemin and SHINee generally love music as their craft. And i feel like constantly throughout the years they have worked and continue to work hard at making music for the sake of making MUSIC. Which is what i love so much because even tho Taemins and SHINees songs can get very experimental they don't experiment just to get a reaction but to genuinely explore their musical colors and their abilities to translate their emotions and passions into those songs. Loved your interpretations in this reaction and I can't wait for more^^ happy Birthday to the ACE of aces ^^

Trying to pick my favourite thing about Taemin’s music is very difficult for me. Everything about Taemin and his music is so perfect to me that his existence makes me feel like I might actually be the centre of the universe 😂 But if I had to pick one thing, it’s that listening to his music makes me feel like I’m falling in love. I mean that literally. It’s the best way I can describe it.

"Door" was part of Taemin's first solo Japanese Arena tour, which was in 2017, so if you watch the whole concert you will discover that the majority of his songs are in Japanese. And of course, not only is Taemin's dancing amazing, but he is doing it while singing live as well. After all, he is a member of SHINee LOL. Fun fact: As you may have noticed, Taemin is performing on a octagonal stage. If you watch the making of video/documentary for this concert you will see that Taemin had a really hard time trying to figure out how to perform on a round stage. It took some extra practice and planning for him to understand how to use the round stage. And when he first started out he had a hard time figuring out where he should be on stage at certain moments. This was his first time ever performing on a stage in the round and he wasn't used to not having a defined front of the stage. It took him a few performances before he became comfortable with performing with that set design. Those polls he is tied to offer resistance, but I don't think they are really "heavy." When I have watched behind the scenes things and rehearsals in his documentary, I think it looks like those polls are probably a light weight material like plastic because they are designed to move and bend with his movements, etc.

I very much appreciate Taemin's music for it's extreme creativity, versatility, and many layers of deep, philosophical meanings. Especially since those interpretations often reflect his inner most thoughts and feelings, as well as his deep Christian faith and the challenges to that faith. While not all of his music reflects a Christian message, as a Christian myself, those songs that do bring us a faith-based message are so refreshing after the standard fare of regular Christian music. This is because they are so raw and filled with difficult truths revealing the very real struggle everyday Christians deal with in this secular world. For instance, while most people interpret Taemin's "Want" as just a view of him tempting us with a sensual feast for the eyes, when you look at it from a Christian lens, the imagery and lyrics are so very much more than what they appear. Although I'm not of the Catholic variety (I'm non-denominational), I can appreciate that Catholics are much further ahead than most Protestants when it comes to interpreting the Bible in the context of its ancient cultural and linguistic worldview. Taemin is using this MV to provide a Bible study on the perilous story of Genesis 3. It's a cautionary tale about delving into selfish desires through twisted truths and embracing sins that draw us away from actual truth. During the introduction phase, we see alluring snippets of Taemin in various poses with snakes and smoke, however, you also see what looks like pools of blood (Christ was the ultimate sacrificial lamb whose blood covers the sins of the world). Taemin opens the MV by dancing in slow, hypnotic, snake-like movements. Snakes/Serpents, which represent the idea of the tempter in the Bible, (in the ancient Hebrew - which derives from Akkadian & Ugarit - the word "snake/serpent" ["nchsh"]), used in this particular way grammatically in Gen. 3, is a triple entendre meaning "divine shining being". The snake was ancient iconography denoting spiritual/godly figures. Eve wasn't talking with a snake, but an angel or some other divine shining being. Gardens and mountains were typical metaphors for where gods dwelt because gardens were rare and mountains were mostly inaccessible to ancient peoples of that time period. When trying to interpret the Bible, it's VERY IMPORTANT to leave your 21st Century glasses on the table and look at the wording and imagery from the ancient Israelites' perspective and the language, culture, and history of that time period - from the second millennial BC up through the 1st Century AD. Things don't mean what you think they do now. The glowing, bright white shirt Taemin wears fits in perfectly with the symbolism for "shining" and "the light". The chief adversary of Christ, was Lucifer (MEANING: "Light Bearer", or "The Shining One"). As I explained earlier - divine shining being. Thus I wouldn't be surprised that this part of his wardrobe was very intentional. Taemin is all about the little details. Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel....until he fell. (The word "satan" is a misnomer which actually means "messenger" in the ancient Hebrew/Aramaic, as in the incident with Job. It was actually a job description which became a proper noun later during the intertestamental period and then appeared in the NT.). In addition there are creepy demonic-looking beings around him at certain points when you slow it down. Although he's beautiful, he's hiding his demonic side in order to draw you in....a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just before the bridge, there is a brief shot of a neon red/orange cross behind him, and he mimics the posture of Christ on the cross (which is a signature pose for him as you see in many of his dance postures). In another scene, during the bridge, Taemin is elevated above the snakes and calls them to him because he's their father - the father of lies. The tempter in the garden was a master at twisting the truth, which lured Eve to sin, and she then led Adam to do the same. Behind him is a photo of him with his eyes covered: see no evil here, just gaze at my beauty and listen to what I say. People are blinded by beauty and inconvenient truth. It's more important to satisfy your own desires that to act on truth. You also get a visual of a solar eclipse. Again a reference to Christ's death on the cross, as there was (according to both the Bible and present day astronomers) a solar eclipse when Christ died on the cross. Even the lyrics reflect this theme: "The minute you take me in you'll be wanting more," in other words an addiction is formed. "....The sweetness of the forbidden apple...," tastes good, but once you get a little taste of sin, that which is forbidden, you'll want more and more because it "...awakens your senses," (in the Bible, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they became aware of the "knowledge of good and evil") and you will continually "...thirst for more." He'll "....wake you up from the silence of your deep sea." In ancient biblical times, the "sea" was a metaphor for chaos, because it couldn't be controlled. People were afraid of it because it was mysterious; you couldn't see beneath the surface; many died in it's chaotic waters. This is why the Bible (in Revelation) says there will be no more seas = no more chaos. When Adam and Eve were awakened to knowledge of good and evil, chaos ensued upon the Earth. He'll "help you see a new world," but is this really a good new world when innocence is stripped from you? "I'm your toy, I'll make you innocent." Most toys appear innocent and signify the innocence you had as a young child, but the apple (forbidden fruit; actually scholars aren't sure what fruit it was) looked innocent too and "appeared" good to eat. Many poisonous things appear beautiful and delectable but those very qualities lure the unsuspecting victim to their death. Sin numbs you to immorality (truths become lies and vice-versa) and turns it into something "sweet" to the point it's justified and then those who can still see the corruption, try to warn people, or don't themselves partake of that sin, are shunned. It was the serpent who distorted the truth and tempted with the one "forbidden apple" rather than the other acceptable fruit (like the fruit of the Tree of Life which gives immortality rather than death). Sin invades so slowly, so subtly and satisfies your cravings to the point that you don't even realize it's happening until you're already addicted to it and scales form over your eyes (which were considered one of the ways to discern knowledge), and you have no clue because you're "...relying on your own self-control...moved by your body's and soul's" dark desires. The tempter says, "Open your eyes (to me rather than God). What do you want? I'LL MAKE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU NEVER KNEW." Exactly. Adam and Eve never knew sin, until the tempter tricked them and revealed all and after that, humanity has always wanted more. Temptation gives birth to greed, lust, jealousy....all the 7 deadly sins. Before you know it, you have been gently and seductively led right to Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture at the end of the MV. You are left with a choice: 1) Embrace the sin and willingly go through those gates (Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden because they chose sin and God appointed Cherubim with swords of flame to guard the gates of Eden so no one could ever enter again), or wash yourself clean in pure (holy) water (Christ promised to gift us with living water -- which was himself; his blood.), and there's only one way to do that - by believing in and accepting Christ as your savior. I'm sure there's probably much more that I've missed. You can see how Taemin's lyrics can be interpreted simply as they appear, or once you study the meticulous details that Taemin is famous for infusing into his work, you may find a message that's a little uncomfortable for some and more than you bargained for...lol. Other Taemin songs that reveal deeper Christian messages are: "Heaven" (LV) which is a beautiful invitation to salvation; "Famous" (MV) which highlights some of the 7 deadly sins that tempt him as an idol and how they could corrupt him if he doesn't stay true to himself and his faith. Then there's "Holy Water"....enough said. Even his 2020 album, "Never Gonna Dance Again" Acts 1 & 2 feature Heaven and Hell; light and dark - typical Christian themes - within the concepts of his title songs, and "Advice" reminds him not to listen to the advice of the collective "one" (negative fans, sometimes the company, outsiders) but to take his own advice because he wants to remain true to himself, his faith and his own style of music which transcends the word, "Kpop". Thanks for another great reaction to our multifaceted genius artist, Taemin! You always appreciate his art and give us other insights not regularly thought about.

"2 Kids" is the first part of Taemin's 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and brings the whole concept full circle. As mentioned previously, Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. ‘2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” "2 Kids" is about reflecting on a past dating relationship and realizing that in hindsight, now that you are older and have a little distance from the situation, you realize you handled things all wrong. Being young, dumb and naive you let small things ruin what could have been something great. And now that he is older and has more life experience, he wishes that they had never broken up and that he had handled things differently. The song isn't about any one person in particular, it's about life and young love in general. "2 Kids" sounds happy even though it's a sad song because it's a metaphor for how you may look happy and fine on the outside, but inside you are in pain and suffering, beating yourself up with regrets, etc. (He is beating himself up as part a the metaphor in the song, no one beat him up except himself.) The happy tune is masking the true sadness of the songs message. If you pay attention to the lyrics, "2 Kids" is all about how Taemin is in pain, saying, we were too young and dumb and we let things get in the way ... I should have just stuck it out a little longer. (In other words, why did I act so rashly and breakup with you over things that I now see, in hindsight, were so trivial?, etc.) Leave me alone, I deserve to be in pain and live with the guilt and regret that I feel, etc. He looks injured and beat up because he is metaphorically beating himself up emotionally and he is physically beating himself up because he is in pain and he is just blindly going through life since the breakup. If you notice, even the choreography is showing him being beat up by an invisible force. He is rolling around on the ground and can barely stand up at times because he is in so much emotional pain, etc. Which is all kind of funny because the whole reason why the comeback for "2 Kids", which was supposed to happen in July 2020, was postponed for a month until August was because he injured his wrist while dancing. So he really did beat himself up for this MV. :D And although they did create choreography for "2 Kids," Taemin said most of the dance in the MV ended up being freestyle. If you watch the behind the scenes video for "2 Kids", you will see this was all filmed in one day in Paris in February 2020, right before the pandemic shut everything down. The shot where he is suspended in the air, was him in the middle of the street being hoisted up on wires. And the part where he is dancing in the middle of the town square the people you see in the background walking around him were people just taking their kids to school and going to work that morning. They filmed all night long, kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2if2pqjlMWdZNY.html. So with every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker then the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and, as you saw in "Criminal," he was living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed to the point he was suffering from stockholm syndrome; he fell in love with the person (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is essentially inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. So in other words, even though you are being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself) he still can't help but love them and allow them to continue to hurt you, etc. :D "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that need for perfection, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today.

@@4Peace. I'm not sure about that. All I know was his injury was the reason his comeback was postponed for "2 Kids," but it could have also been reaggravated during "Criminal."

Yes, Taemin's voice in Thirsty is a real mood. I love how Minho and Key make fun of his voice in this song during one of their vlives. Thank you for showing Taemin some love for his birthday 💜

Happy Taemin's day 💗 Wishing your dad a happy birthday 🎂 Taemin is always so complex and willing to push his boundaries to grow. Door is such an emotional song and every move has a purpose 🔥

Now after so many years of kpop I see myself asking the questions does this song need the mv or can it be just a song? Can it stand on its on with no theories, no choreo, no acting or images just a song? Not many can. My playlist keeps getting smaller. Try Taemin Monologue or Shadow.

I always interpreted the taxi in 2 Kids as the person he was with leaving him behind rather than the taxi refusing to pick him up. I guess with him looking beat up the taxi may be scared of picking him up as well…

Want is just stuck in my head. The biblical imagery with him being the snake is so good. Also the lyrics. Anyways, can you do a MONSTA X discovery please?
