6.98wkg for 39 mins at the end of a 5000 metre elevation stage is insane, finally Bjarne Riis's 6.95wkg for 35 mins on Hautacam in 1996 is beaten, also Riis's time came at the end of a stage that was flat besides the last climb. Amazing from Pog.

You're right, when you have Pogi who gods honest wants to win everything. For chrissakes he was racing in the sprint the other day. But seriously, in most years, the GC teams "take a break" so to speak on some of these days, but this year not so much. The break away is never getting a chance. There are a few stages coming up that Pogi might consider his 3 min lead enough and Visma may want to take a relaxed day to try and regroup.

Visma played all the cards that they had today....they tried to make the stage as hard as possible to potentially get a repeat of previous Tours where they have been able to put Pog in difficulty. With Pog being just too strong, with Jonas probably not being at 100% and with Visma not having the ideal team at the TdF (missing Kuss) this is the result. Respect to Visma/Jonas for putting everything into the attempt and respect/kudos to Pog for being just too good.

A general consideration on cycling today: top riders are now able to climb climbs between 8 and 9% gradient at well over 20 km/h; anyone who has ever practiced cycling knows that being in the slipstream of another cyclist going at more than 20 km/h leads to a significant energy saving; the consequence of this is that now only climbs that are consistently 9-10% or more represent a "neutral" battlefield, capable of highlighting pure climbing skills like those of Vingegaard

A couple things about this stage: -Jonas looks weird in the polka dot jersey. -I was thinking about all the riders who have gotten sick or have covid. Then I remembered Pogi got covid just prior to the Tour, which in hindsight is probably a blessing in disguise. -Luckily for Pogi it's a sprint stage after the rest day, that way he can jump in the pool all he wants tomorrow.

Jonas is pulling out his best numbers ever. There is nothing wrong with him. Yes he had a crash but he wouldn't be there and the team wouldn't be killing themselves for him if he was subpar. He's riding better numbers than 2023. It's just that UAE have used the reverse of what JV have been doing to Tadej, learning how to crack him, Tadej and UAE has learned what cracks him and trained to counter it. He's in recent interviews saying this (he's tweaked his training for the types of stages that normally break him). He's learned to stay cool, he's fueling better, he's just BETTER than Jonas is. It also wouldn't suprise me to hear UAE and Tadej used the Giro, especially the way the team rode, as a training excercise for the TdF People need to accept this and stop dismissing what Tadej is doing, he's immense. They both are to be fair. Jonas in the past has benefited from Tadej having bad days and really putting the hammer down when he has, this year, he's not having any of note

Pog slayed the hammer and he seemed pretty composed before and after his final attack. Perhaps the earlier losses for Vingegaard, that were better than he expected, came at the cost of a huge effort from the Dane and we're seeing a more accurate picture of where he is in relation to his rival. Now, it must be said. We've been hearing for a year that Vingegaard had a better team last year. Now UAE has 3 riders on top 10 and even Soudal has 2 while Visma only has Jonas as of today. Non-GC Kuss is something we miss dearly.
