I had a few extra notes that apply to this game more than any other tactics game I've played so far. They're all loosely related, but here we go: 1. Learn what it means to efficiently "trade" damage and actions with the enemy. In games like TKOL and FFTA, you can build yourself to utterly overwhelm your opposition while taking little to no damage, but that's not the case in Reborn. You WILL take damage, so learn how to do so in a way that puts you ahead. Pincer Attack is a great example; 2 attacks for the price of one is a great trade. Tanky units, like Knights, tend to trade very well, but they also don't do much damage either. It's literally give-and-take, no matter how you slice it. Another great way to achieve good trades is... 2. DEBUFFS. You touched on this, but abuse your debuffs, ESPECIALLY crowd control (slow, sleep, stun, stop, silence... all the "s" debuffs I guess?). Taking away your enemy's ability to act is (in my opinion) the strongest mechanic in a tactics game like this. Spending one action to potentially take away MULTIPLE actions from MULTIPLE units at once is an amazing trade. A Dark Wizard or Enchantress makes an excellent dedicated debuff unit. Not all classes can equip support spells to do this, but it's worth giving at least one to pretty much every unit that can. 3. Not every unit has to deal damage. This may seem obvious, when healers are so important, but it tends to slip by most people. The debuff Wizard I mentioned is a good example. Even frontliners can be dedicated support units. Build a super tanky Terror Knight with a shield to debuff enemies and knock them around into position for your other units. Hopefully this helps!

@@gmoney5772 Hey G Money, you activate AI on a per unit basis. So, when you enter a battle, click on any of your units. You should see an AI settings option on the right of your list options. Click on that, and you'll be able to set them to 1 of 4 settings. Once you've done that, you can turn on AI for your whole part in any battle via the main menu during battle.
I love how enemy soldiers have names and histories you can read in the Warren Report. I was devastated to learn some random mage I killed was a renowned artist whose works had been good enough to entertain nobles. It really drives home how wasteful a war can be.

Shields are strong in this game and have a high knockback effect. You can knock your enemies off a flat or lower tile to gain advantage. The slow debuff when first used on someone will have their RT (recovery time) increase. This is useful if there's a strong/fast enemy you want to keep out of action for a few more turns. Also dont let it's lower percentage hit rate bother you just rng it and you will be fine.

A random tip, if you can't scoot back enough to hit an enemy with a spell (if theyre in that non targetable open area around your mage) you can actually aim past them at another enemy or even a bush or tree and if they're in the line of sight you can hit them. It comes up quite often since the ai likes to rush down mages.

So when this game first came out(I am old now) You used to be able to do training battles. They where against your own units. There was this amazing thing you could do where you would petrify someone and because of the increased phys resist you would just surrond one enemy and attack him and throw rocks at him and then heal the unit when it would get low on HP. Then hit it with Petrify again when it would come out. Now with the level cap and everyone just getting xp as a grp at the end of a battle you can't really do that. ALTHOUGH If you need to get a units weapon skill up. Say having a Berserker switch to Knight and got from axe to sword. Well based on what I have seen you can still petrify an enemy and have that unit slap the heck out of that unit while you drop heals on it and and the units around it as needed. I was able to quickly get my secret weapon techs up doing this for a few units. So this tip can still get some use and that warms my old cold dead heart. Now get off my lawn! It's my Frizbee now...Kids these days with your Nintendo colors and your Hippity hop music! Back in my day...*grumble*...*mumble*...ZzzZZzzz..

Whats the maximum level of weapon mastery?
well, I played tactics ogre on PS1 years back and as I remember my team to-go-fight was 2 undeads, 2 terror knights, 1 healer, 1 canopus, 1 angel knight and 3 archers with warp ring or fly shoe. positioning for archer is really important. so get high ground for your archer as soon as possible while terror knights and undead tanking the damage from your opponent. this was my strategy a while back I love ranged attack than magic attack so yeah 3 archers for me :D
Conservatively, I have 5k + hours in tactics based games Disgaea, J D'Arc FFT, (PS1, PSP never played TO) after the first match..."no JP? The AI is on its toes?..Ok this is different 🤔, let me look up a non spoiler early tutorial" to get a baseline. Tactics games while fundamentally similar have so much nuance in the meta. So the way you comprehensively unpack and weave information specific to the game and the genre that vets take for granted (like terrain, army compliment) is appreciated. TO is the tactics game I never knew I needed but am really enjoying. Sorry for the long winded comment, but you have a subscriber! 🙏🏿

he's still pretty useless, just bring him along to recruit but not even worth a spot in a real battle if youre running a lot of monsters because they ALL take they're turn first and move hella further so it's super impractical to get the buff to work and even when it does it's not worth just having some other class in the spot. No magic sub par damage, slow turns garbage movemeng, a berserker or even a rune fencer is waaay more useful in the spot.
@TitaniumLegman

You're not wrong, I've been frustrated by my beasts running out of the Master's range as well. However, I think there's potential in a heavy beast team with a Master using a status blowgun, lobber, and some high level healing items. Due to the high health pool of beasts, it can be tough for your clerics to keep up while also taking care of your other units, so the master can help with that while also spreading status' around.

How does parry work or us that like really low % and you can recuit only in battles or you can recuit in those mock battles
@TitaniumLegman
Жыл бұрын
Parry is activated on a percent chance, with higher parry rates based on the level of the skill on the weapon you're using. I've not had the chance to test it, but from everything I've heard you can't recruit in training battles.
I want to say something about the RNG in general in this game which is that it seems extremely fair or even overbalanced in favor of the player. There are plenty of games out there which say something like '95%' chance to succeed and you are afraid to press the button because that 5% failure rate in practice feels like 50%. Well I had the opposite feeling with this game, where a 30+% feels like 50+%, and anything over 60% feels like 90%. That goes for stuff like recruiting and also powerful spell effects like poison, charm, petrify, etc. Like that stuff does miss of course but usually if it's going to miss it'll tell you a really low percentage or straight up 0. If it's over 20% on something you'll have more than one chance at (like a poison that hits 3 enemies or a recruit you've set up multiple characters or turns to attempt) then it's totally worth going for.
Thanks for the tips~ I think your onscreen captions are a tip ahead of the audio though.

When you go into battle, you can click on each of your units even when it isn't their turn. One of the option you'll have is ai settings, in which you can choose one of 4 settings for each unit. At the start of a battle, open the main menu and you should see an ai controls option for the whole party. Turning that on will activate the ai setting for the whole party! :D

Recruiting from training battles does not ever seem to be possible, from what I've heard. Your best bet is recruiting from dungeons as you unlock those, or easier story battles. The major thing to look out for, is your weapon rank, and your finishing moves. If you haven't been using a weapon on your first class, that you can use on the new class, you'll need to level up a new one. Funny you asked, I just put out my first episode of that exact guide. I'm doing them as I finish routes in the game, so it's broken into individual parts. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iohtrsx6mpPaoqw.html
I must be slow, but how do you know which items supply what skills to learn? I'd love my entire army to learn "counter". Based on your other tutorial video I was expecting a FFIX/FFTA style of skill level up type meter per item.

When you have the item selected (for an xbox controller) you press x and the d pad to scroll through the pages and on the second page of the weapon description shows the innate weapon ability. Kinda janky wat to get fairly important info admittedly.

Yeah, apologies if that wasn't clear. Patrick has the right of it tho, and it shows the importance of not only your equipped skills, but your equipped gear, when considering a character's build.
monster hunting, no palicos to help you here I gotta sub just for that one
Im not sure if people realize this yet... you can destroy breakables in your first few turns to pick up cards faster, great way to make people (especially the priest) useful

This is a good point that I keep forgetting. I'm so used to largely ignoring breakable objects from my time with LuCT that I ignore them out of habit. Gotta fix that. Thanks for the tip!
Its crazy how deep this game is considering how long ago it came out. It's more deep than most of the new tactics games (if not all of them) lol.

Oh for sure. This game set the bar for complex strategy titles, without question. And it is a hard bar to meet, let alone exceed, while still feeling elegantly and intelligently designed.
Good tips,subbed up.

This is true, but it's a tall order for new players.
I'm having a hard time figuring what all the status do. They don't have any explanation. I'm having trouble understanding what's abilities carries on to new classes when changing them
@TitaniumLegman
Жыл бұрын
I'm currently working on a video compiling all the various status effects as a number of people have requested that. I'm hoping to make it my next video. As far as abilities, the vast majority of them are class specific. One of the only abilities I've noticed carries over is weapon skills. So long as the weapon you're using in one class is also able to be used by the class you're switching to, the skill you've gained should carry over along with any finishing moves you've unlocked.
I understood how, why, and what happens when you change classes in FFT: WOTL. I just started Tactics Ogre Reborn and don't quite get the system.
@TitaniumLegman
Жыл бұрын
So basically, each class in TOR has it's own unique skillset. The only thing you can transfer afaik is your weapon skill and associated finishing moves, if your weapon can be wielded by the new class. When you change to a new class, your skillset will change completely to match whatever the new class is. You will learn new skills automatically as you level, and the skills you have equipped will level us at the end of battles. Does that help?
Do a class guide with lizardmen, lamia, etc classes included. I can't find any. Also, a guide on taming and recruiting all types of units. I will love you forever!

Whats the maximum level for weapon mastery?
@TitaniumLegman

As of right now, I'm not sure. I imagine it goes to AT LEAST 40 as there should be 4 finishing moves per skill. Beyond that, I don't know.
How about rare drops in POTD? Are they still as annoying as before?
@TitaniumLegman

I've heard that a LOT of the rare drops and recipes and such in dungeons have been shuffled around. I'm not to any of that yet, but from what I'm seeing around the community is slowly mapping them out. I imagine in a week or two it'll all be laid out for easy reference.

I did!
Too many units gets hard to gear them up. Focusing on monsters helps that. I rather have a moderate sized army with a few units that can swap in that an overly large one. That way I can get crafting and +1 leg and arm gear on all my units. Also +1 armor for casters and heavy units that cant wade. The extra mobility is far more useful.
@TitaniumLegman
Жыл бұрын
This can be true for sure. I like to spend time in the Phorompa Wildwood so money isn't too much of a concern for me, but yes, a large army is tough to fun. But even just having those few extra units to swap around, complimented by beasts, is a good angle to take. Can take the edge off in tough situations.

Unfortunately, the AI will do what it wills. You may find some success by selecting ardent mender or ranged striker but that's all the control you really have beyond stripping them of all of their weapons, spells and skills beyond status moves.

But how to tame a beast? I’ve tried and it always misses
@TitaniumLegman
4 ай бұрын
Your best bet is to get it as low as possible, 10% hp remaining or less, then have your tamer stand directly next to the beast, then recruit it. If it's feared or has a similar effect on it it won't work, but otherwise you should see a success chance of 15-30%. Keep trying, using the Chariot to reset your rng if needed, and you'll get it eventually.

i know this video is a year old but like, is this just a really JRPG version of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? cuz im slightly hesitant to play because ive tryed a few other titles that play like this but just dont capture the same feel but this looks like it could have been a spin off from FFTA lol
@TitaniumLegman
2 ай бұрын
This looks like a spin off from FFTA because it's the same team. However you have it backwards, Tactics Ogre is the original, and FFTA came far later, reusing a lot of the same assets. This is just a VERY updated re-release of the game.
I never really cared much about recruiting in LUCT and hadn't bothered much so far in Reborn, I mostly just pick my strongest ~10 fighters and roll with them no matter what. I guess I should stop doing that?
@TitaniumLegman

I mean, if it works for you then I don't see the issue! It's just much easier to level units in reborn, so I advocate a larger roster for new players so that they're less likely to get stuck.

@@TitaniumLegman Well your example of that sewer level really struck a chord, it's a major pita with a melee heavy lineup. Beasts, dragons, and non-story characters always just seemed weak in LUCT but they seem to have done a good job rebalancing things so far in Reborn (valks and terror knights oh my!) so maybe I should give it more of a chance.

She definitely has too much rage and too little smarts. You can try petrifying her if you can get your hands on that spell, to force her to stay back and reduce the damage she takes.
Not new to the original to: luct (the snes/ps1 versión yes AM old) .. but i just want to know if the sword master is any good.. so far warrior denam is just too good . (2nd chapter so far) . Mighty impact + any on hit effect is 100% aplied to the target . . And hits hard . Loved the swordmaster in original , but it was yo frágile , just outclased by TK denam and dragoon denam , both with ridículous tankiness and huge stre growth
