    Another major Tactics you missed actually. Sometimes higher up the pitch center backs used to give long ball to Ramsey or Kulusevki who was in wide region and Ramsey or Kulusevki recieves the ball and tries to cross the ball to Ronaldo in center of the box

    the fast paced passes into ronaldo ramsey and kulusevski's feet broke the midfield line and often left ronaldo 1v1 , something we did not see enough of last year because of the side way passing under sarri.

    @Dani B. mainly because Juventus lacks the wingers, Cuadrado was playing RB most of the season, while injuries hits many players last season. So I guess Sarri is kinda forced to use the narrow formation.

    Brings tears od joy in my eyes. If Ronaldo was a bit more lucky we'd have a 3-0 lead in the first half. I was afraid Sarri completely destroyed the team's morale and that it's gonna be difficult to get them back up. Pirlo was the only man that could do this. Just imagine what he'll be able to do when Dybala and De Ligt come back from injury. Not to mention it looks like we'll finally give our youngsters a proper chance. Frabotta wasn't anything special against Sampdoria but he did what Pirlo expected from him and that's good enough for me.

    It's very similar to Man City’s tactics for Kyle Walker,so Pirlo did all to have possession. Danilo's role is the same to Walker's role. May be Atalanta's 2019-20 tactics is also similar to Pirlo's first match tactics,but Pirlo did all of this for possession and Gasperini is a counter attacking coach.

    I believe the real treat for analyzes would be the 3rd Serie A round, when Juventus will play Napoli (who look really good with Osimeh in the squad), which will be a face off between the two former teammates and two former crucial midfielders of Carlo Ancelotti in Grande Milan! It'll really be something, to see the approach by two former Don Carlo's students, how different they will be as coahes, given just how different they were as players, although in the same team! I hope they will both offer us a great entertainment, perfect football and a motive for you, to analyze their work!

    Was waiting for your analysis on this match, as usual loved it. My observations from this match :- 1. Although Juventus announced lineup 5-4-1 on their twitter handle, it was anything but that. Team played fluid, attacking football with diff. formations for diff. phase of play. 2. Pirlo brought out the best from Bonucci, Rabiot and Ramsey, playing them in the role they are comfortable with. 3. Danilo really surprised me. His performance as inverted full-back was really good and very reliable defensively. 4. Not bringing Ronaldo deep or wide. Allegri and Sarri didn't implement it, and that is why Ronaldo didn't play to his best. Good to see Pirlo understand that. Lot of positives, but too soon to give verdict on master Pirlo 🙏

  • @GM-kj7sy

    @GM-kj7sy

    Its actually not a 4-2-3-1 during attack.Its more of a 3-3-3-1 by dropping one of the DM into the centre back role while the full backs push high enough to be in line with the other DM. On the left,Alba pushes high to giv the width while Coutinho moves into the half space.Then either Messi or Griezmann will drop of between the lines while the other stays high(in zone 14 or as a pure no.9).Messi,Coutinho and Grizzy are extremely fluid upfront and keep changing roles. On the right,Roberto moves into the RM or CM role but can easily make runs forward as well,underlapping or overlapping the RW when required. Atleast this is what i hav understood after watching Barca's preseason.This kind of a setup gives them attacking threat but at the same time defensive solidity as well.

    Kulusevski was like a livewire RW(F). Ronaldo got to take 10 shots. And that is definitely a positive thing and a welcome change from what we've been seeing under Sarri. Of course he scored once in the very end. But he hit the bar and was on target two other times from a sharp angle. And knowing him you know it's just a matter of time. Plus the fact that he convinced Ramsey to take the key playmaker role and set up shots the way he did just makes it look really positive. Once Arthur and Dybala are fit, it will be very interesting to see how Pirlo balances this team. Exciting times ahead.

    Needs to be seen over time against various opponents. But I saw more football in this one game than during 12+ months of Sarri! It's a joy just to see the players trying hard again, something they had stopped doing for many years. Pirlo unlike Sarri is managing to find ways to minimize the team's weaknesses such as de Sciglio, Cuadrado and Danilo; Bonucci had his best game since maybe 2016 or so.

Everyone must play with a real sense of commitment. If they continue improving from what we saw last Sunday, Juve will be most exciting to watch. Is it possible to bring Alphonso Davis to Juve? I love that Youngman and he could fit with Pirlo's philosophy.

    love the content as always!!! I have some questions though; why possession-based teams like City( vs Wolves) and Barca are now opted for a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3. Also is the difference between the two systems is just only on paper or is it not? What drivers or motives that cause the manager to choose between the two systems? though the 4-2-3-1 it's never dead, it is kinda making a comeback right now. This could be an overstatement tho hahahah correct me if im wrong.

    Even I did this analysis for one of the websites I write for. One point you forgot to mention was the defending done by Sampdoria was zonal. Yes, Cr7 did stretch them back but majorly the space BTL was due to their zonal defending line plus midfield line moving up higher causing vertical spaces for Ramsey and Kulusevski to operate. Sampdoria should have played with higher backline to support the press. They could have played the offside trap. It was more of a dysfunctional play from Sampdoria imo

    Although it's just one game and against a weaker team, Pirlo did show that a manager with great vision can make a player deemed of low quality a useful part of the team. Danilo as example. Right before this game he was one of the popular receivers of fans criticism for lack of attacking contribution being a full back. But Pirlo made him one of the most important players in this game.

    Yeah, I notice that when Samp press high, CR open on the left wing to receive long balls, most likely that’s to reach Samp’s half side as fast with On or two touch with possibility of good counter attack

    Jonathan Wilson wrote Inverting the Pyramid. Then the pyramid will get inverted again these days. The teams with low PPDA (high intensity press- look at Atalanta, Munich, and current Juve) tend to float the opponents' box with players when they reach the final third. Even Pirlo got back the 2 - 3 - 5 when attacking with Danilo joining the center half of the pitch. An interesting era of football!

    One more solution for Juventus build up play maybe was 3 4 1 2 to 3 1 3 3 or 3 4 3 diamond vs 4 3 3. One of the double pivot move to defensive midfielder position. Ramsey move to central midfielder position,winback push high and one of the striker move to offensive midfielder position. But my oppionion that Ronaldo stays high,beetwen the centerbacks like one striker. There is 3 vs 3 in first line,but there is 4 vs 3 in central zone plus wingbacks high. Sampdoria play man marking and leave space in midfield for play.
