Serbia actually went in with a really high block and around 30' they started to push back their lines, i think this was predicted by Tite, i noticed Brazil didn't really pressed on the first half, it was a bet, Tite was confident his team could deal with the early pressure while saving energy for the rest of the game, Brazil then started to overload their defense and around 60' Serbia was basically drained, leaving way more space than before. This match, in my opinion, puts a question to the next two teams that will face Brazil, if they start pressuring, Brazil will handle and manage to overcome in the second half, if not, they will give Brazil the control of the game and this could also be really threatening. Tite is more than just a tactical coach or a motivator, he knows how to win trophies, he uses every aspect he can to enhance his chances

More respect for Serbia. They are one of the teams who can capture the hearts of neutrals with their hard work. Their defensive effort really are impressive until the 67th minute. Brazil on the other hand prove that tactical set will work with individual brilliance in tough moments. 2 goals from Richarlison with the second goal is the nominee for 2023 FIFA Puskas Award are the proof why Brazil managed to win 5 FIFA World Cup Trophies. They are bless with so many great talent who can produce magic in crucial moments.

Serbia was superb into holding their ground and showed a great defensive display. However, I think their efforts on build up with the side overload to avoid Casemiro were not effective at all and they were not able to use the physicality of their front line properly. xG of 0.2 is just very bad when you have attacking prowess with names like Mitrović, Vlahovic and Milinković-Savić. If Serbia are not able to find solutions for different transitions, they might go through the group stage but will not go far... even if they get respect.

Of all the candidate teams for the title, such as Brazil, Spain, France, England, Argentina and Germany, Brazil was the one that had the most difficult and complicated first opponent, Serbia. Costa Rica, without comment, a horrible team and already totally aged, far from the level they had in 2014. Saudi Arabia, Argentina disappointed. Japan, Germany in the same situation. In the end, it's not that Serbia played poorly, far from it, they defended as much as they could and played well, it's just that Brazil ended up being really spectacular and in this game, reached the expectations that the media and fans placed on the team. Man, I think you underscore Tite there. His use of a 4-4-2 in defense and a 2-3-3-1 in attack was very good, and with enough variation, to make Serbia ineffective in attack. As you pointed out, the only way Serbia was able to find that pass out wide was if Mitrovic dropped deep, and he was the main target up top, and the biggest threat in crosses. Tite completely dominated Stojkovic in tactics. For me is a 8 for Tite and 7 for him.

Agree. He bet on a really agressive pressure defense, committed wingers(Raphinha especially) and midfielders to fight for the ball and cover the whole field, Serbia could barely control the ball most of the game, and never took any danger to Alisson's net.

😂😂😂. Not really, Serbia just decided to lock the defense very well. Otherwise, Brazil decided to explore possible breaches for atracking quickly and effectivelly. Rafinha lost 2 clear chances on the 1 st half.

they didn't like nervous to me. they didn't lost control or changed their game or characteristics (as Portugal did against Serbia). Serbia was struggling to decode and it required more analysis. then in 2th half it happened

@@vampir6286 yeah, one of the key things to win a tournament like this is to have a BUNCH of options, 2018 Brazil literally had 1 setup and the first game the 2 key players for the setup were out (Casemiro and Neymar), they lost to Belgium, Without Casemiro, Belgium had a very easy time crossing through the brazilian midfield defense and they lost a lot of the Attack chances without Neymar. That's why i think Argentina is not winning this and the only real contenders are Brazil and France, (maybe Spain, not sure though, I'm still not convinced).

I hope Neymar isn't seriously injured

Neymar played as attacking number 8 (mezzala) tried to expose the half space and gave more space for vini in the left wing area..

Did Serbia have good points in this match? Yeah. But they didnt get one single shot on target. Tite kept his squad in controll pretty much the whole game. Our tactics fit our players. We play pressing the opponent from their own field. Our wingers are active during the defense moment assisting our full backs. Even with all the anxiety of a first game, tite’s Brazil looked pretty solid and im sure he deserved a better grade. Hope Serbia can make the playoffs as well.

I don't agree with this analyzes, you said that Serbia played really well and tactically, but you forgot that Serbia didn't shot at the goal one single time in the entirety of the game, while Brazil shot 23 times, the only times that they threatened the Brazilian goalkeeper was with the four corners they had in the game, Brazilian defense completely shut down Serbia, it was not even funny.

Tite is loading 5 very top attackers in the first XI and 5 more in reserve. As a result, the opponents have to think do they want to high press? Unlike previous Brazil team, all members defend and they all fight to win the ball back.. and they did many times. Brazil wingers became full back and they won the ball from the opponenets wingers with 1 vs 1 situation. Tite probbaly have trained all the forwards to defend and steal the ball. I d' say Rich / Raf / Vic J had more success in stealing balls than the defenders.

I realized that too. Raph and Vinicius were elite defenders for some reason and were winning 1v1 situations easy af. The actual defenders would be more compact towards the central area of Brazil defense. The wingers were like pure defenders for like 70% of the game.

I am Serbian Serbia (and Yugoslavia before) was never good in playing defense. So starting game with goal of "not losing" was lost game from the beginning. Especially this team of Serbia which is attacking team. So playing more attacking, we would maybe get more goals from Brazil, but we would score some too, at least it will be more interesting to watch

Brazil's touch is so out of this world. They can turn hard pass into tiki taka or fast run, with good ball control. You could tell when Serbia presses, they can still manage to keep the ball well and build possession; while when Brazil presses, it usually ends up with Serbia clear the ball with long passes. The strength of Serbia lies on their size. Serbia has the TALLEST player average in Qatar (187 cm). If they can maximize their potential, they have good chances to get out of group stage

I think neymar was played central rather than on wing to compensate for work rate. Brazil's weakness is full backs and require more support. Antony's work rate might be more use full against stronger sides who attack with width

Serbia defended well for a while, but the difference in individual quality of players is obvious. The entire Brasil bench is individually better than all of Serbia's roster, save a few names like Tadic and Mitrovic maybe. Even players that aren't in Brasils roster (like Lucas Moura) are better than almost every player Serbia has. They stood no chance.

I'm from Brazil, and if this serbia team is a great one, we are corcerned about it because they are giants and strong guys and have a solid defense, who always win the corners, I think they can go to quarter finals easily.

Brazil started with vini, Neymar, richarlison, raphinha and paqueta, that is 5 creative dribbly boys, Brazil attacked with them 5 relying on 1 on 1s and defended with 5. It meant that their defence was rock solid but they also create plenty of chances. Serbia doesnt have the same luxury and missed some crucial players. Overall I feel like against this Brazil team it is easier to try to go for a draw rather than win as they seem more defensive and their offense isnt all that agressive but rather relies on the other team getting tired

Sure, Serbia tactics were interesting in theory. But it stopped there. They did not have one single chance that was worth it. Barely a shot in the goal. You grading Serbia tactics over Brazil's one when their xG was 0.2 is silly. Their tactics DID NOT WORK, even if they look promising. And even though the tactics did not work, they were not able to do anything to make it work. That being said, considering that there was not even proper care and consideration to write the Brazilian players name correctly (Paquetá, Raphinha), it feels like there might be some bias here.

One of the contributing reasons to Serbia's poor performance, were 3 key players who were injured/unfit. Mitrovic, Vlahovic, and Kostic were all out injured/weren't 100% ready. It was obvious, but them not getting any service was also a contributing factor.

Serbia played without Kostic with Vlahovic coming off the bench and Mitrovic not being at 100% all due to injury.When those 3 are fit Serbia has a chance to win against anyone with the support of Milinkovic-Savic and Tadic.This game could have gone different if Serbia had all of the best players in the squad available.That is why I am not impressed with Brazil but what is impressive is the massive squad depth and quality they have.

O 4-3-3 num primeiro momento foi originado no futebol de seleções principalmente em 62, com o Zagallo [inclusive, era mestro não só como técnico, e também como jogador] voltando pra virar um 3o meia ao invés do ponta-esquerda que era. 2002 só ganhou com Felipão colocando 3 zagueiros [Lúcio, Roque Júnior e Edmilson] pra permitir liberdade pro Cafu/Roberto Carlos subir. Tática é importante pra caralho, pra maximizar as habilidades.
