Get a pack of the multiple colored small zip ties. Come in very handy for situations like this. Tag the low and high voltage wires with the same color for each zone before you tear it apart.

That's pretty nifty, a control box holding all the relays. I would want that and circulators over control valves.

I like that new zone controller design, you can replace the just transformer if it goes bad instead of replacing the whole damn thing!

For you and I replacing a transformer makes sense, but if you're working for someone else charging a good book for your time, replacing the whole zone valve controller is the way to go. Then if anything else like a relay goes bad its the manufacturer's liability not yours as the repair technician.
