In this session Liu Juan giving me advice on my looping technique from one position and in backhand-forehand drills.

Very good lesson. So your coach has you follow through lower on your forehand. I've been told to follow through to my forehead and it's hard at times. You look good!

She is a good coach. I use a heavier blade but I also exercise to strengthen my arms, my shoulders, my legs, and core. Then the blade is not that heavy. I liked your forehand, it was very good once she got you to use the proper technique.

Your fh and bh are so stable!! I feel that your elbow is fixed at that position, and you hardly move your upper arm, most of the backhand loop is down by the wriest. How do you feel with this 20 mins training? Is it tiring? and btw, Is that Lester Fan sitting next to the table? lol :)

Thanks man! Yes, you got it right. The full training was 1 hour long, 3 sections by 20 mins. It wasn’t too tiring, it was just very humid and hot in that club (summer…). I liked the training, I feel like I’ve got useful advice from Liu Juan. It will take time until I can fully implement these things into my game, but already now I feel my game changing. And yeah it’s most certainly Lester there - he helped with translations into English :)

keep the spring in your legs when you are doing backhand practice (around 6:41), like shocks in a car.

Hi. So I'm curious why she told you to use less wrist during the backhand stroke? Was it so you just concentrate on the under arm movement and to get the tight timing there first? Because the more "tutorials" and trainings I personally watch, the more I realize how different the tips are from each coach. From almost no wrist to very heavy wrist usage.

Thank you for your question! She told me that because my wrist was too loose and, hence, less consistent, harder to control the contact with the ball. Using more forearm helped stabilize it and increased consistency. I still will be using my wrist in certain situations but I have now a better sense of how to control it in a rally game. Techniques vary person by person, so for me it was “use less wrist”, while other people might involve it much less if at all on backhand, so they are told to use it more. It all depends on your technique. I think the better you feel the ball the more you can involve your wrist on bh, because it adds quite a bit of power to the shot, but should be controlled.
