T34/85 by Tamiya in 1/35 scale, Part 5, Painting, Sponge Chipping, Decals, Pannel Liner

In this video we paint, sponge chip, detail paint, add decals, and use pannel liner on our WWII T34/85 medium tank by Tamiya in 1/35 scale.
The T34/85 was the up-gunned version of the T34/76 that first saw front line service in 1942 against German forces. Production began in January or 1944 to counter the German Tigers and Panther tanks. The major improvements were the 85mm main gun and a new 3-man turret compared to it's predecessor with the 76mm gun and a 2-man turret.

Hello Johnny. Nice and accurate techniques of painting and chipping. I love the preshading before the 4BO Green. What kind of brush 🖌️ have you used for the panel liner? The details are awesome. Have a nice weekend. Greetings from France. François Bazan 🐕‍🦺🐾🐈🐾

Hi François, great question. I'm using a fine pointed No. 2. The bristles are long enough to hold plenty of the panel liner, so I don't have to reload the brush as often, and the point is sharp which helps me be more accurate with applying it, which means less clean-up. Take care and model on my friend! Johnny

It's maybe too late now, but, why didn't you textured the driver's hatch parts as you did with the hull MG's casemate (with great result)? They were casted part too.

Hi Zorg, even though the drivers hatch and visors are cast, it doesn't appear to have a really rough texture, at least in the photos that I've seen. But you can easily add the texture if you like. Obviously, after painting, it's too late to revisit a small detail like that, unless you would want to repaint the hull. At this scale I would say that texturing is subjective on small items. Thanks for watching, stay safe and model on! Johnny

Hi Johnny, I always like the initial coats and the pre-shading. Something about that stage of the painting looks really good. The further detailing only enhances it. Thanks for the inspiration to pursue my own visions.

Hi Mikey V, I do hope that you are pursuing new ideas in your modeling. That's what keeps modeling fresh and exciting. I too love the point in the build when I get to lay down that first coat of color over the pre-shading, its quite satisfying to watch it slowly develop, like magic. Take care and model on my friend.
