Awesome take on an old idea of tools to add a smooth shiny finish, but this is so much better than any regular form tool, I’m so impressed I’m going to make one for my machine, thank you so much for sharing
Watching steel work, as well as wood, is satisfying and reassuring. I'm also glad that KZread music isn't used.
Chuyên nghiệp. độ hoàn thiện sản phẩm tốt. chúc mừng e.

This is awesome idea! I was wondering what was he doing throughout the video but at the end, it’s awesome!! I must agree with a previous viewer that it would add hardness to the surface and that makes it even better! Great job!!!

Try looking for pattern burnishing for the next level.
Надо было прорезать паз подшипника глухим, что бы иметь возможность наполнять маслом эту полость. Масло лучше использовать с добавлением молибдена

Machinist? Or Wizard? You decide. I’m willing to bet this tool adds a certain amount of surface hardness to the part as well. Very impressive. I’m going to have to make one of these. 😊
@JaakkoF

Doesn't add hardness unless the material is work hardening kind (like 304 stainless). Surface tension goes up, as this is imparting the same type of stresses to the material surface as cold rolling/forming/drawing does.

Wonderful!! Please, what are: (1) the diameter of the bearing ball? Is it 11/16" = 0.6875" = 17.46mm? (2) the type of the ball bearing (d/D/h)? Is it 6202 2RS = 15mm x 35mm x 11mm?

Awesome tool and video! Any idea how much the dimensions change on the part before and after burnishing?
There´s something cool about roller burnishing to me. This one´s gorgeous.

I`m not 100% who did a video on the topic, but if i find it, ill tell you here, but there is someone on youtube who made a certain roller burnishing tool for the milling machine... The pattern that that thing leaves is wicked... An absolutely stupid idea in my view... Allegedly it was thought as a good idea at one point in the past to replace scraping, but the only type of scraping it could replace is the scraping for oil retention, and even there, you would have to re-grind the surface as the burnishing rises the surface around the valleys... Not just that, but you still need a monstrously large machine that is monstrously precisely hand scraped for precision to actually be able to rely on that kind of tooling to ``replace scraping by hand`` which is a bit of an oxymoron from where i`m standing... But as a surface finisher it is a damn brilliant tool... Depending on the speed it leaves tighter and tighter pattern, which by logic tells you that for oil retention - you would have to have the tool turning quite slowly as not to disturb the bearing surface all too much... If i don`t post which channel uploaded the vid, just search it out, you wont be able to miss it... If you like burnishing, the sight of the surface finish that that tool leaves will please you greatly... All the best! P.s. edit - the video is ``2 ball pattern burnishing`` by engineering hacks and tricks...
Merveilleux, félicitation!
The art of burnishing. Nice tool.

Fantastico el sitema derecalcado gracias.😊
they would of loved you at the training school .Only trouble is you cant shoulder the ball but nice idea it has not quite got rid of emery cloth and ground finnishes ttfn&ty
I like your style… bet I could make it twice as fast as this…😂… you have some nice tooling as well. This is a good idea when you need a “ground” surface quality.. I have to wonder how much change in diameter from the turning portion to the finished “rolled” version(?)

Tốt
How much would this change the diameter of the shaft?
Anh ở đâu cho e theo học nghề với ạ.
Excellent tool..
Brilliant. But, I do wonder if you made a small stainless steel wheel, with a rounded profile, that was a press fit over the bearing, if he would accomplish the same thing. I would be careful how much pressure is applied to the work as the headstock bearings could suffer not unlike when using some knurling tools. If you want to add to the complexity as bit, make the tool spring loaded so the pressure is always consistent. If I used my lathe more, I'd make one of these.
@JaakkoF
5 ай бұрын
You want to have that wheel be hardened, ground and polished. Cheap&dirty option is to use the corner of the bearing itself to do this operation. As for spindle bearings, you can not impart such forces that would destroy the bearings in any non-hobby lathe with the cross slide screw without something else breaking first. If yor bearings get shot from knurling, then either the knurling process has something wrong with it or your bearings were loose or shot already.
