The most beautiful moss garden in Japan (名所/古民家/庭園Vol.3)
日本で最も美しい苔庭 、貞観園（ていかんえん）は新潟県柏崎市高柳町にある日本庭園。江戸時代の大庄屋であった村山家の庭であり、幾度となく改修を繰り返しているが、その改修には幕府のお抱え庭師であった九段仁右衛門や藤井友之進らが関わっている。国の名勝に指定されている。名の由来は木造薬師如来立像を安置する貞観堂に因み、天保14年に地元の教育者、藍澤南城が命名した。
主石賓木（石が主役で、木が脇役）という思想に則った庭園で、青く苔生した石が特徴的で、落ち着いた様相を見せる。また、庭園の内部には貞観堂のほかに観瀑亭、四時庵、抱月楼、環水軒などの建築が見られる。(Wikipedia)
園内にはスギゴケやジャゴケなどの苔が百数種類を数え、苔で有名な京都の西芳寺などに次いで稀にみる苔の庭です。この立派な苔が育った要因として、霜害の無い立地条件がその第一として挙げられております。(teikanen.jp/about/)
Teikanen is a Japanese garden located in Takayanagi-cho, Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture. It is the garden of the Murayama family, which was a large shoya in the Edo period, and has been repeatedly renovated, but the renovation involves the gardeners of the Shogunate, such as Niemon Kudan and Tomonoshin Fujii. It is designated as a national scenic spot. The name comes from the Jōgan-do, which enshrines the statue of the wooden pharmacist Nyorai, and was named by a local educator, Nanjo Aizawa, in 14th year of Tenpo.
The garden is based on the idea of the main stone guest tree (the stone is the leading role and the tree is the supporting role), and the blue mossy stones are characteristic and show a calm appearance. In addition to Jōgan-do, you can see architecture such as Kan-taki-tei, Shitokian, Hogetsu-ro, and Kansuiken inside the garden.(Wikipedia)
There are more than 100 types of moss such as Juniper haircap and Great scented liverwort in the garden, and it is a moss garden that is rarely seen next to Saihoji Temple in Kyoto, which is famous for moss. The first reason for the growth of this fine moss is the location conditions without frost damage.(teikanen.jp/about/)

Wow, fantastic captures of this magnificent traditional garden. It looks like a part of nature now. Amazing how many generations of owners already exist. I think you can indeed call it the most beautiful moss garden in Japan. Probably one of the most beautiful gardens worldwide. It looks so natural. I so much love it. いつもとても綺麗な映像で癒されます。 苔っていうとあんまりいいイメージないもんですけど、苔庭としてをそれを美に持っていっているところが、 昔の庭師さんたちのすごさですね。

苔は日陰のジメジメしたイメージがありますが、半日日陰、日当たりを好む苔など数千種あるようでよく見ると綺麗ですよ。ご視聴ありがとうございます。

This Beauty Forest is one of the beech forests scattered in this area, and it is a place where you can heal whenever you go. The fresh green of beech, which has the earliest spring buds in heavy snowfall, is beautiful. Thank you for watching and commenting.
