Today, I want to share a special moment from “The Ancient One,” the second book in my Heartlight trilogy, featuring our adventurous heroine, Kate.
One of my all-time favorite scenes is when Kate transforms into a magnificent redwood tree in the chapter “Deep Roots.” She is embraced by the Ancient One, the oldest tree in the grove and a mystical time tunnel. This scene is so popular that it's my most requested reading!
But here's a little secret: that scene was inspired by a real-life adventure I had in California, where I spent a night nestled inside a hollow of an ancient redwood tree. Instead of sleeping, I found myself imagining the tree's life and wisdom. What stories could it share if only I could hear its voice?
