One of the rare bands that I can put any album in and press play, and not skip a single track.

Welcome to SOAD. There is no such thing as a bad song from them. Keep up the great work. Love seeing someone discover system for the first time. I was lucky enough to grow up with them during high school

I wasn't at this *specific* show, but that tour had like 6 shows in it, and I saw them in Montreal. It was the best show I've ever seen. With only Maiden coming close.

Live versions are great, but with bands like these you need to hit the studio versions to pick up on the lyrics, which bring a whole new level to the songs

Woke isn't the right word for them. They were "awake" .. no whining, no pandering. Just people who came from ruff parts of the world and decided to sing about actual injustice rather than cry about made up problems like people nowadays. Serj Tankian (the singer) is from the same place my family came from, Beirut Lebanon. Anyone that knows anything about Lebanese conflicts in the late 1900s will know it's a place that will eat you alive. The same civil war that caused my family to flee to America on the 70s is the one serj was growing up in as well.

@@brooksysdeadI don’t know who you think are crying about made-up problems, but SOAD are exactly the kind of people “woke” as a social term was made for. Woke means ‘alert to social injustice.’ That describes SOAD perfectly.

@@brooksysdead This is one of the huge issues with the current state of debate in America; too often it quickly turns into semantic squabbling. Like a countless list of words before it, "woke" has been beaten up and bastardized so much at this point that it no longer carries any rhetorical weight. Sure, there's a percentage of people who fall under a category of insufferable newage wokeness, but there's an inherent amount of nonsense in every human grouping. The word still holds on to its original intent for the most part, but now offers an unruly smattering of personal addendums. If you run down a list of some common corporate and political injustices, 90% of Americans are going to agree on their abhorrent nature. Instead, we've been guided down the path of arguing with one another over whether a volunteer group fighting to save the mosquitoes is "too woke". MFers need to get their eyes back on the prize and step outside of party politics and tribalism for long enough to survey the hellscape that's been constructed around them.

Remaining politically impartial and not digging into the politics of SOAD is gonna be a herculean task. SOAD is an Armenian band who fled Genocide and used their platform specifically to advance their own political ideals. Like them or hate them, this is obvious af. SOAD's entire discography is absolutely riddled with songs like Prison Song. If you're feeling particularly centrist today, you might catch me arguing that literally ALL of SOAD's songs have a political undercurrent which drives it, even extending to their most surreal and absurd songs like Chop Suey. That people see the name of the song and don't immediately assume it is as it says on the tin is a moment for me akin to Gandalf realizing that times have changed so much that being asked to say "Friend" and enter felt like a trick. We're so wrapped up in these complex symbolic and mysterious, big brain puzzle media pieces that the extremely obvious and transparent message sails right past us. I've seen people unironically scratch chin and wonder if the Prison in Prison Song is a metaphor and I'm like, I guess. If the metaphor is for the Prison Industrial Complex in a form of synecdoche. (It's not a single prison, it's a network of interlinked prisons all mutually profiteering off the free labor that is a cornerstone of US economics.)
