    Love the gig clips ... I must admit I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a tenor .. I haven’t played one for years, but as a solo horn player with a guitar band it probably comes over a bit stronger than the alto. I’m a jazzer on the Alto but I’m leaning towards a bit of blues and rock for gigging so I’ll start looking for a decent mid price range tenor very soon.

    One way to fix the stuffy D is to allow the low C key to raise higher. You just need to remove some material to the C key felt. Beware because the more you remove, the sharper the D will get. Not a good idea if it is already too sharp.

    That screw is almost all the way out and the felt is shaved thin. I've tried everything. I have no problem playing everything in tune. This Syos did the trick. I wouldn't mind trying a different neck as well.

  • @ScottPaddock

    @ScottPaddock

    4 жыл бұрын

    Everything is completely different. On tenor I'm trying too get a big bright sound. On soprano I'm trying to make it darker while still getting a lot of air in there. The soprano is a 6* circular baffle and medium chamber. I've been using BG France Duo Ligatures for about 3 years now and really like them. The Syos lig didn't feel as good as the BG I was using.

    Great imfo, I'm wondering what happens if you if you go to a med or large chamber. Will it work well with the high baffle. A high baffle seems to take less air to the horn up and running. Do you find that to be the case, Thanks a lot Dick

  • @ScottPaddock

    @ScottPaddock

    4 жыл бұрын

    Most of the time a high baffle and small chamber go together. Yeah, the high baffle takes less air to get a big sound because the air is moving faster, but they are also a little harder to control... .because the air is moving so much faster. This one is very user friendly. My Barkley Brazil alto takes a lot more control to make the high baffle work. That could also be the difference between alto and tenor.

    Scott, as always a great video. I was wondering regarding that clip from the show towards the end of the video if you are also growling or that's just how the Saxophone sounds. I am still considering whether to order this one or the Chad LB, however I must say that as a non-expert I am not sure what's the difference. Both have step baffle and small chamber. Do you know the difference between these two? Which one should be easier to play?

  • @ScottPaddock

    @ScottPaddock

    4 жыл бұрын

    My mp is a bit brighter and has more power. Chad's is a little bit more laid back. All step baffles are not created equal, the shape and slope of his is different than mine. Two things - that video is captured on a cell phone by an audience member very close to the stage. So you are hearing a complete overload of sound into the cellphone which could be mistaken for a growl. Second, near the middle of that solo before I go up into the high note I am playing between a regular A and a muffled A to give it a crazy sound. I think my mp and Chad's would be similarly easy to play. His would be a little darker than mine, and mine would have a bit more power. He plays mostly in smaller acoustic jazz groups and I play mostly in large amplified bands. Check out this video. You can hear a bunch of Syos MPs being played side to side, including mine and Chad LB kzread.info/dash/bejne/eGd1lsFuf5nXXag.html
