A live jam on the Replay and Prophet Rev2, with more added in multitrack.
This song comes from one of my community's regular collaboration events, where members send song fragments to one recipient and are themselves the recipient of a different song fragment. These starting points are used as inspiration for creating a piece. Here, I had the amazing Jan Steiner send me a very cool drum loop, and Kumie created a generated cello texture. After slowing down one and speeding up the other, and matching their pitch, I knew just what I wanted to go for.
At the heart of the song is the Sequential Prophet Rev 2, where I wrote and performed the main chords of the song. I had the keys version briefly but am very grateful to have switched over to the module. I love the binaural sounds on this thing.
For a melody/lead sort of thing, when I'm not singing, I used the Vongon Replay. I'll be completely honest that I didn't think I'd ever by the Replay, but a member of my community was selling it for a very, very good price, and I was curious. I think the Replay has its problems (like an almost unreadable set of labels!) but it sounds good and the form factor is surprisingly useful in a table-top setup, when you want to play but real estate is at a premium. So despite my initial thoughts, I think the Replay might stick around a while.
Sequential Prophet Rev2 - "Keys" (polysynth)
Native Instruments keyboard - MIDI controller for the Prophet Rev2
Vongon Replay through Walrus Sloër - Melody pad thing
Electro-Voice RE-20 - vocal mic
Godin Stadium '59 and Ernie Ball St. Vincent guitars through Strymon Iridium
In-the-box elements:
Drum and cello loop starting points (thanks, Jan and Kumie!)
Addictive Drums 2 for acoustic drums
Teletone Audio Retrograde for bass
Reason 13 for extra sweetening
As ever, thanks for listening.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying...we need another album of tracks with your vocals. So good.

Man this gave me the chills and felt uplifting at the same time. Nice work!
Wow, just wow. Knocked it out of the park!
Love the vocal layers

Absurdly good. Awesome lyrics, great voice,
Wow… simply Wow!
That is fantastic! Congratulations Jay!!!
Beautiful.
Bella. Like the structure. Like orchestration. Merci pour le moment. Sempre un piacere ascoltarti❤
Great song! Thanks
Damn, Jay. Just fantastic.
Beautiful
I like your voice! The way were singing in the beginning style-wise reminded me a bit of Audioslave
As usual, briliant!
Wow! your voice is amazing.
Oh wow, I love this. Truly fantastic work, well done, it's awesome :)
What a great song. I love the vocal harmonies. Thanks for sharing!
I DO agree. I love you, Jay!!! I love this song so much. I hope we see more of my old Replay. Maybe spray paint it first? :)
Very, very sweet song Jay. Had to listen again but with my eyes closed to soak in the mood. Love the arrangement. A new favorite for sure and could very much see myself enjoying a fully polished album of these kinds of songs. In the meantime I recommend anyone liking this to listen to Tiger Lou's album A Partial Print - very reminiscent of the in mood and tone in this one❤
I never get tired of writing praise under every video of yours.❤
The skills and passion of the human being will always make up for any flaws in the machine. Well freaking done!
those guitars 3:17-3:43 so beautiful🥰
Bellissimo!!! ❤
Wow, this was already a great track but the vocals elevate it to a whole other level! Amazing work!
I've been seeing a lot of synth artists trying to do vocals lately, but you're the only one who's actually good. :-)
Layers and layers and layers, lovely!!
What a beautiful track! 🤩 Really enjoyed it including the collaboration with members of your Patreon community! The syncopated bridge starting @3:23 was 🔥🔥🔥!
Incredible!! ✨✨💙💜Bravo! Beautiful tune. How it all came together is a great story.
You are straying into some new territory with some of those chord voicings. I love it as always!
👏👏👏
Some of your finest yet. Amazing singing, as always!
Holy shit....your voice is perfect for this style of music!
Awesome finished track, Jay.
This just came up randomly as a next-up type video after something I was watching, but I've immediately subscribed! What a great song! Awesome performances and recording! Is this available anywhere to listen to? I was not expecting something of this incredible quality to come on randomly like that. Guess there's a first time for everything haha.

I'll have a vocal EP up on my Bandcamp in the not-too-distant future and will post a message on my channel about it. And thanks so much!
You are already at a high skill level, but I hope you know vocals really push you to the stars 👍
GREAT stuff! Can you post the words to the tune? I'd love to read through them as I listen again--and the tune is definitely worth re-hearing! Amazing collaboration!

Lyrics: Growing old's a question with no answer, don't you agree? Solitude's a salve, but it's a cancer eating at me. Everybody knows this is nowhere, that's what Neil says. But somewhere there's somebody who will find you worth more than praise. Don't answer. It's just your reflection making its way back. Don't answer. There's nothing to say here that you haven't said yet. And thanks!

@@JayHosking Thankyou!!
Great work! Vocal harmonies might be a little loud, some also same range as synth, tricky to mix. Ok I'll show myself out
When the album?
What's the title of the song? (please don't say "Live Jam...") (...and please upload it to Spotify & Co! This is a hit. Just sayin')

No idea what the name of the song is! I'll stew on it. Probably an EP of vocal songs including this one coming to Bandcamp soon, and it will make it to streaming platforms after that. And thanks so much!
Vongon Replay is such dogshit. A scam of an “instrument.” I have to keep commenting this to dissuade people from being intrigued by it. The synth architecture is for preschoolers and its aesthetic is for wannabe influencers. I think it’s such a scummy release from what otherwise seems like a decent company. The price point is so beyond ridiculous for this garbage. I like and respect all your work. Just need to air this out since it’s being shilled by the synthfluencers
