In May 2023, I bought a 4-inch pot of Syngonium albo from a medium-sized online plant nursery for $30. You are correct in emphasizing how fast this plant grows. In about 45 days that I've had it, it's doubled in height and it's even putting new vines from below. I really like it!

I absolutely love my Syngonium Albo, Syngonium are one of my favourite plants. Mine is really large now, about 4ft tall, and I’ve divided and propagated so I’ve got 3, my most recent propagation is living in semi hydro and looks sooooo healthy, leaves are just so shiny and it just looks so happy! I also find mine can tolerate a fair bit of neglect, I probably water mine once every 10 days and on my biggest one I’ve been getting one or two new leaves a week! Just love it, thanks for another great vid! 💚

The best things about syngonium, for me is that you can actually decorate with them. Some plants just need and want a window and I hate to deprive them of that but with my syngoniums (I only have a few) I can put in a space where I just want to add a plant. I do wish that other plants were this forgiving haha! There are a couple more syngoniums that I would like to have for this reason.

Based in South Korea and this syngonium albo is my first variegated plant, I purchased it in summer for about $10 USD equivalent and I bought it in summer. I kid you not, I get at least one new leaf every week, the growth rate is simply insane! It has 6 leaves when I purchased it, which I then added a small thin moss pole and it just took off XD After 1.5 months it'd reached to top of two 35cm moss poles, so I did a chop and extend, replanting the top half back into the same pot and trimming the roots of the original. It's been about another 2 months and both have already gotten to the top of their 70cm poles again. The growth rate is both a blessing and a curse, but I'd be curious to see how it grows in less than ideal conditions as my plant hasn't seen winter yet. Also I noticed some reversion about 3 weeks ago on both the original motherplant and the top cutting - I followed the same rule where if it looked like the third leaf was going to be all green then I'd cut it back, so I cut back both. Sure enough, on the mother plant cutting the third leaf is 90% green, and the third leaf of the cutting from the top cutting is still unfurling but it's looking to be about 75% green, so I definitely agree they need a bit of monitoring. I've decided to let the cutting vine downwards rather than putting them on a pole because they just take over the pole way too fast and it looks a bit silly having such a long pole for such a small plant, but I do like that I planted the first cutting back with the mother plant because it has a much fuller look than a single vine (even though the mother has not got 3 growth points following the original chop.)

Many of my Syngonium Albo/ Fantasy {Australia) propagations revert to green. However some are throwing out totally white leaves. The lower leaves are varigated or green (which I imagine is helping with photosynthisis) but I now have a vine with totally white leaves and its flourishing. They are still very expensive here.

I just purchased my syngonium albo a few days ago. It was $89 Australian dollars for a relatively big plant with a lot of varigation. They aren't terribly common here in Australia. I think I will be cutting mine soon. The main stem is about to unfurl what looks like its second heavily green leaf in a row.

I’m with you Memo. For some reason I can’t really put my finger on, Syngoniums just don’t do it for me the way other genre do. I just think that come down to personal taste and if we all liked the same things, life would be very boring, wouldn’t it. I do have the green podophyllum pixie version and think that’s totally adorable and cute, so it’s not like I hate them. But I don’t go out seeking them. I am also remaining open to the idea that maybe I haven’t found one that really strikes my fancy. Another great review. Good luck with the whitefly issue. I get them every summer all over my parsley. Drives me bonkers, but I can’t offer any advice for indoor issues outside sticky traps and fans (they hate breezes) as I have no experience here. Be well 💚🌿

Hi Memo! The common names I've seen for this plant are Arrowhead plant/vine, Tri-leaf Wonder and Nephthytis. The albo variety is actually pretty cheap to buy on the private market at the moment (20-40CAD). I think that the reason it's not in production is three-folds: unstable variegation; quick grower (too much to manage in a big production) with a low selling value. Actually, the only unstable variegated plant I've seen in stores is the PPP and I've seen so many of them in my garden center tour yesterday that I feel like our local market is probably already saturated. About your whitefly problem (which has gotten a lot more out of hand than the one I dealt with last winter...), I may suggest how I got rid of my problem in the case you haven't tried these solutions yet. First step was to spray the affected plant with a dish soap + Neem oil solution and a week or two later, we received some predatory wasps (Encarsia formosa) and some Green Lacewing Fly larvae (Chrysoperla rufilabris) on some little cardboard hangers that I hung on the Abutilon I was treating. Bear in mind that this was at school where we're not allowed to use pesticides and I was being evaluated on the survival of my plant because I would have trashed my Abutilon at home if it had been infested with Whitefly as well as Spider Mites. But it actually worked! After 3-4 weeks, the plant was pest-free and we'd gotten rid of the Whiteflies in the whole classroom!

  • @Houseplantygoodness

Ohhh amazing, I have heard of most of those names but not the Nephthytis, that is awesome thanks for sharing. One of the other commenters mentioned the name i was trying to remember it was the Syngonium Fantasy. I think based on their comments it seems to be the common name in Australia. I agree with you about the reason that it is likely not in mass production, all three of those reasons create the perfect storm for non mass production. Same here with the PPP it is almost everywhere now, I think soon I will start seeing it in th big box stores and the supermarkets. Awwww thanks for sharing your Whitely methods, that is super sweet that you took the time to explain, I have done most of the methods you mentioned, I think it did start diminishing with the predatory wasps, but i think I didnt do it for long enough or in enough quantity to deal with my whole collection. The lacewings is one thing I did not do this year, but i think when i am back from holiday I might give it a try for sure.

I almost bought one because people were recommending it as a practice plant for Albo Monstera...but then i came to my senses and went for the Monstera . I don't have enough space for plants and i also have a habbit of propagating the plants i love or buying multiples . 7 Gloriosums, 8 jewel orchids, 3 queens...i might have a problem. It is better for me to just get the plant i want directly , instead of someting similar since i know i will otherwise end up with both :D The Syngonium Wendlandii and Llano carti road spoke more to me, I also have a White butterfly that is doing great in lower light. I might get some others in the future because they are so easy but i do agree that most seem quite similar. (in Germany the Syngonium Albo is going for about 20 to 50 euro depending on size and variagation)

Yep I am fully with you on the just buying the plant you want, it took me years to come to that realisation, but like you I end up with so many multiples and I just really dont have much space any more. Ohhhh I love my Llano and soon i will hopefully see the Wendlandii again, I saw one a while back and did not pick it up sadly, which I have been kicking myself for, for a while now. Excellent, the German prices are kinda similar to the prices we have in the UK now too.

Regarding your whitefly issue I get them attracted to my Syngoniums and Alocasias in my greenhouse and the only thing that works for me is sticky traps and SB Plant Invigorator & Bug Killer. I spray the SB fortnightly and use Neem Oil & Horticultural Soap mix in between. The Albo is ridiculously easy to propagate and it's a plant that definitely gives you your moneys worth although as you said they did get quite high in prices for what they give you in ease of distribution so to speak. I think if the variegation was stable then those higher prices would have been justified. It's going to get to the point where people won't be able to get rid of propagations because everyone will have one 🤔🤔😁Syngoniums as a genus are fantastic plants that you can decorate with in a number of ways, although I keep saying I will have them trailing but as soon as they start to vine I just have to give them something to climb so there are no trailing ones yet in my house. I have them all in different growing media and they are not fussy either. Thanks for another informative video Memo 👏

There is no such thing as "Albo". There are 'Albolineatum', 'Albovirens', 'Albo-micans', and 'Albovariegatum'. We assume you means the last one or the first as those are most common but people talking about "albo this" and "aurea that" are without fail not experts.
