actual hack that worked for me. Bob your head and say "Mm-pa" so your head bobs forward while you say "Mm" on every beat, and the rear bob/"pa" is on each off-beat, then after getting used to it, just stop saying "Mm", and all you'll hear is the syncopation on "pa". Really helped get the "feel" down.

Actively move your arm on the beat when resetting to play the next note so it's like: (Don't play notes in brackets) 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + П V (П) V (П) V (П) V I do the exact same thing, except instead of an imaginary down bow, I silently tongue an imaginary note (well actually I just cut the airstream on the beat and reopen it off, but what I said is how I initially learned)

March composers love to give French horns the upbeat. You have to realize the downbeat so you don’t get back on track with it. Maybe since you don’t use your mouth to play, you can use a small articulation to sense the downbeat, then bounce back off it to play your upbeats.

just classical problems We jazz and pop musicians play syncopation as second nature

I remember cheating syncopation. My teacher finally caught me when she was listening to me playing in the closet. Usually the sheet music started with an 8th note, so I started syncopated, but then started counting the rest like normal. I've gotten away with it all my life until now in senior year of highschool lol

I've gotten away with not actually counting all 50 rests of something and just reading the part of the instrument that would cue me in and just know it's coming and start counting from there. We all had our tricks in youth orchestras lol

For me it really depends on the piece. Sometimes I’ll be able to nail a syncopated/weird rhythm section immediately and sometimes I’ll have to slam my head against it for three days even if it should be easy. I think it’s just what makes sense to me and what doesn’t. Idk just keep at it!
