Symphony X - The Odyssey

Музыка

Symphony X And my Favourite track by them The Odyssey Full song!
Lyrics:
[Part I Odysseus' Theme / Overture]
[music / orchestration - Romeo]
[instrumental]
[Part II - Journey to Ithaca]
[music - Romeo]
[lyrics - Allen, Romeo]
To the one that I love, my journey has begun
When our eyes meet once more there will be peace
The taste of your lips the warmth of your touch
again, forever, two souls as one
Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm dreaming of the home
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew
to return would make my dream come true
Seasons of sorrow have stolen all my years
I miss the rolling hills of Ithaca
I've been through battles and cried a sea of tears
but the tide is changing, and with it all my fears
Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm dreaming of the home
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew
to return would make my dream come true
Behold the sea and winds of jove
We set sail guided by the stars above
The ports of Troy escape our view
a cold and stormy fate awaits our rendezvous
Onward we ride, into the raging fury
Setting our course by the moon and sun
We forge ahead seeking glory
Yet the journey has just begun
Onward we ride - nine days we brave her might
we are coming home...
[Part III - The Eye]
[music- Romeo]
[lyrics - Romeo]
Awakened at dawn - Land dead ahead
with the winds of the morning we change course
no remorse, a place forbidden to all
Search all the grounds - find food and water
Yet journey not into the Cave of Woe
long ago, a legend spoke of a beast
A thousand riches hidden deep within the stone
A thousand nightmares mortal blood forever flows
A mountainous black - engulfed in a shadow
a bone-chilling growl and an Eye of Hate
a ghastly fate - held prisoner by the Eye
Yet he must sleep - as the daylight fades
we focus our senses and sharpen our blade
we take aim - In silence we strike
A thousand riches hidden deep within the stone
A thousand nightmares - blood runs forever - from the Eye...
[Part IV - Circe (Daughter of the Sun)]
[music - Romeo]
[Lyrics - Romeo]
We sit adrift on the open sea
The gift of wind, by Zeus, concealed - so carelessly
We break the waves on a course untrue
across the endless plain of blue - a new coast in view
Yeah...
We carouse with the maiden
beneath her eyes the madness lies
...in mystery
I drink deep from the chalice
of gold and jade - my senses fade
...I'm mesmerized
Stay - like those before
I condemn you all - from walk to crawl
...metamorphasized
No - my will it defies her
speak the verse - lift the curse
...she's mesmerized
Am I asleep?
Tell me Daughter of the Sun
There's vengeance in the air and all things must be undone
[Part V - Sirens]
[music - Romeo]
[lyrics - Romeo]
Dire warnings -
told by the sorceress in white
'false bringers of love' - Sirens
echoing songs from above
Wings flowing -
floating on Sea of Lies
I defy their vision
Elysium swallows my cries
Embracing -
maidens of lust stimulate
and manipulate my senses
I welcome a watery grave
Tied steadfast to the mast
tragedy awaits me
I'm falling victim
betrayed by the sea
[Part VI - Scylla and Charybdis]
[a) Gulf of Doom]
[b) Drifting Home]
[music / orchestration - Romeo]
[instrumental]
[Part VII - The Fate of the Suitors / Champion of Ithaca]
[music - Romeo]
[lyrics - Lepond, Romeo]
So this is home...
In the guise of a beggar - Minerva guides my way
I find my kingdom in jeopardy
Vengeance - it swells within me
As I spy so many who eye my Queen
I'll make them pay for this blasphemy... All will see
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
I will right all the wrongs
Let the Gods sing my song
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
Let a new life begin
my journey has come to an end
A contest of valor
'to pierce the twelve rings
in a single arrow's flight'
Yet, not a one can string the bow
My veil of silence lifted
All is revealed
revenge burns in my heart
thrashing and slashing down all my foes...to claim the throne
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
I will right all the wrongs
Let the Gods sing my song
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
Let a new life begin
this is the end of my Odyssey
Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm finally home
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew
I have returned to make my dream come true

While Symphony X and Michael Romeo continues to produce high quality art, for me, this was the perfect balance of epic prog, symphonic and metal influences and concept album/music. To me, this represents the very best they've ever produced. Nothing but the highest praise for this album and song!

Have you ever noticed how the part from 16:43 to 20:07 tells an actual story about the fight against Scylla? At 16:59, for example, it shoots out of the water - then a fanfare - and dives down again at 17:06. Same fanfare again, now under water. The battle ensues, and from 17:30 to 17:41, its heads attack in an unpredictable fashion. It disappears, the men look around; they only see small waves dancing around (18:09), until the shadow reappears (18:15); it shoots out of the water again (18:34) and pulls many men down into the sea (18:45). The survivor(s) look around skeptically (19:00), but can't find it. The dead are mourned (19:08), but at 19:38 it seems certain that Scylla won't come back - the sea gate to Ithaca is passed.

Music and it's varied possibilities. Might I suggest 2 DVDs for you and your son ? 1. Roxy: The Movie 2. A Token of His Extreme Both are Frank Zappa & top notch in every way. Particularly in song writing & musicianship. IMO, they cannot be topped. And a real eye opener regarding possibilities in music. Consider this: between Frank Zappa & Ruth Underwood, they'd figured out a way to properly add pick ups to her marimba and properly, overcoming mic'ing failures of concerts past. Or a sax that has pick ups on it enabling a crybaby/wah-wah pedal to be used on it. Also, 2 drummers (Ralph Humphrey & Chester Thompson, bass (Tom Fowler), a trombonist (Walt Fowler), keys (George Duke), saxophonist & singer(Napoleon Murphy-Brock) and lead guitarist & vocal (FZ). In one song called Cheepnis, (this is the Roxy DVD, BTW)he employs the persussion section (2 drummers- one that has an array of tuned cowbells....🤪 and a proper percussionist using tuned percussion....Mr. Zappa has them play the entire song utilizing the rhythm on the percussion only, then tell the audience so, and has all of the players re-play it again with the melodic instruments & vocals the second time around. Impressive stuff. Bands with more than one drummer always attracted me, (Allman Brothers Band, Doobie Brothers, 10cc, Zappa & James Brown) but to watch Zappa & The Mothers perform at The Roxy on Sunset in 1973 ? Astounding !! Do pick up those DVDs, but some of those performances may well be available here on KZread. I always advocate buying the product & thereby supporting the artist, though. Call me old school, I guess....😎 Hope you & your son enjoy your musical quest together. Best gift you could ever impart to him !!

@@swine13 moonlight sonata isnt a great sonata by beethoven, also they didnt only compose music for solo piano, they composed for orchestra and chamber music (chamber music is music composed for a smaller group of musicians, for example string quartets) ¿You want to hear a badass classical piece that is also way more complicated and way mire badass than this and also has four musicians synergizing in a way that make this look trivial? Try "the grosse fugue" by beethoven, its one of the most epic pieces of music ever, not an easy piece to listen though. I am not saying that this isnt good, dont misunderstand me, im just saying that classical music is just technically many orders of magnitude superior, and in my subjetive opinion also emotionally superior, i love simphony x thoug. P.d: I think that beethoven greatest sonatas are n8 n21 n23 n29 n30 n31 n32 with the greatest of them all being the n29 op106 an incredible piece.

Symphony X is an American Progressive Metal/Power Metal/Neoclassical Metal and Symphonic Metal Band from Middleton, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1994. The Members of Symphony X for the album: ‘The Odyssey’ in 2002 were: Michael Romeo -Guitars, Orchestral Keyboard, Programming, Engineering, Mixing & Production, Russell Allen - Lead Vocalist, Michael Pinnella - Keyboard & Piano, Michael Lepond - Bass Guitar, Jason Rullo - Drums, Steve Evetts - Mixing & Production, and Peter van’t Riet - Mastering. “The Odyssey” is Track #8 on the album of the same name. This Masterpiece has Seven different parts that are a 24 minute musical interpretation of Homer’s Odyssey. "The Odyssey" is a beautiful song! How cool the lyrics are and the music are is a masterpiece. Russell Allen's vocals bring an aura to this piece that is sooo awesome making this true Symphonic Metal and Michael Romeo turning this into a Metal Masterpiece. Romeo is one of the greatest guitarists in the entire world with a few other choice men. This is a truly epic song with great Metal chord arrangements and strong cool vocals!🤘🏻❤️🎸❤️😎

I always hear people complain about the synth orchestra. Honestly, I freaking love it. Synth orchestras have a certain feel to them that's very cool and different to me. It's more about the notes and music than how they sound. Maybe I'm just a weirdo.

I always advocate using a real orchestra, as I have heard bands do it before. They would not have a problem arranging it, for sure. synth works well when you subdue the sounds beneath so you cant easily tell that what you are hearing is synth. a lot of good power metal has that down pretty well, I usually refer to it as symphonic context.

It's funny how some years ago I couldn't digest more progressive stuff like this at all. It's a bit of an acquired taste, I guess. But nowadays I find this to be a quite easy listen. I really enjoy it.

i explain to you why the minute 08:17 - 09:20 ,in my opinion is the best in the band's history! it starts with keys you can find this intro of keyboard sound in a lot of their songs, then after a typical SymphonyX prog pattern enters Allen with his voice melodic but bruttal enough, continue Mike Romeo with this unbelievable genius progressive riff and the keyboards behind listen carefull the sound is mysterius while Romeo continue his riffs, next Allen come up with typical Queen vocal-echoes and the part finish with a prog pattern based on the keys
