Sylvester was the one who really brought disco to mainstream. And as you know disco evolved into house. Ooh I lived me some Sylvester. I was 18 when he became popular. Good old freaking days and it helped being raised in San Francisco. He is the grandmother of disco/house!!!❤❤❤❤❤

This song was a smash in the gay clubs during that era along with Sylvester's "Dance Disco Heat." You should also react to his cover of "You Are My Friend."

YES! Sylvester, Divine, Dan Hartman, and then later Erasure, Marc Almond, Paul Lekakis, Dead or Alive, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Jermaine Stewart, all getting mainstream video time and way ahead of their times.

Sylvester deserves a movie. Lil Naz X would do well to research and portray him. It also wouldn't hurt Naz to start singing something with actual melody.

Also disco was the foundation of house. Listen to Ten City and later Bryon Stigley who went solo and did "Mighty Real" cover. I remember deejays mixing this song with Ten City's "My Piece of Heaven" and sounded like one song.

Sylvester grew into himself when he was molested by a pastor in his parish. That experience and the non-existent support, from the community, gave rise to his rebellious side. He joined the infamous Cockettes, a San Francisco drag troupe in the 1960s. He soon grew tired of their style and formed his own group, Sylvester and the Hot Band, in 1972. The Pointer Sisters did background Vocals. Motown legend, Harvey Fuqua, saw him play and signed him to a contract with Fantasy records. The huge success he received was tempered with the label's push to present him as a straight man. This didn't sit well, and when his contract expired, Sylvester signed with the new San Francisco label, Megatone Records, who were signing LGBTQ artists. The AIDS epidemic had become a gay pandemic at that time, in1983. Sylvester didn't bother testing himself, because he assumed he had the disease. His partner, Rick Cranmer, was dying from the condition, while he was producing his last studio album, Mutual Attraction. Sylvester wanted to make a record that would, both stand the test of time and become his legacy. That was why he made a joint deal with Warner Brothers, to distribute the album worldwide. Rick died in 1987, and Sylvester in 1988. Martha Wash and Jeanie Tracy, who were his backing singers, nursed both he and Rick until their demise. Special mention to his friend Patrick Cowley, who helped revolutionise the synthesized sound of the late '70s and '80s. He died in 1982, aged 32.

@@ria1636 Tip. He was not only a great writer and musician but a true friend to Sylvester 'til the bitter end. Let's not forget he was a very big part of the Bay Area gay music scene, especially through Megatone and Moby Dick records during the early to mid-80s. Tipsong is one of my absolute favorite songs, ever. Great pick-up Ria!
