You van literally check that by comparing the two scenes. It was for this exact purpose that they're identical to one another. It shows how much Rudy has matured over time and that he's no longer anywhere near as perverted as he was back then. His experiences have made that possible. All of them. Now that's what I call character development.

Actually Rudy hasn't met Sylphie for 9 years. He was 7 when he left to teach Eris and currently he's 16. They haven't met for 9 whole years.

I think the way Sylphie feels about not telling Rudeus is the similar to the fear of rejection. She has such an admiration for Rudeus that if he had completely forgotten her, she would initially feel devastated. Even if she were to make him remember, it wouldn't have had the same impact as if he did remember her.

1:40 Its been a very long time since Sylphie and Rudeus last saw each other. They were literally children but now they're teenagers.

In the LN the reveal was a bit more fleshed out. Before the undressing, Sylphy was already calling Rudeus 'Rudy', which is a name only a few people in his life calls him. Then when he took the gloves off he saw a scar on her hand, he recalled a memory from when Sylphy told him how she got it. So when he took the glasses off, he was already certain that this was slyphy, and he asked it for confirmation. Also its been around 9ish years since Rudeus last saw Sylphy, in the last 6 years: he got sent across the world, got a demon eye, nearly died, went depressed for a few years. So the possibility that Rudy would of forgotten who she is a reasonable. Imo. Kinda wish the anime took a few seconds to add in these minor details. Or atleast did something visually to indicate Rudy realising who Fits really was.

I'd say the reason why Rudy's reaction was so chill was because he just wasn't surprised that it was Sylphie the whole time. His body was always telling him that it was Sylphie he just wasn't connecting the dots 100%. Also its been basically 8 years since he last saw Sylphie, he left his village at age 7 and arrived at the University at 15.

They didn't betrayed the reactions well in the anime . Actually in the novel he was so shocked and a little confused about why did she did al of that I the first place and also that mister fits that he admire is clinging to him and crying like that in his chest .

To me, Rudeus didn't have a particularly lacking reaction, it just felt like a tender moment between the two. The undressing was "unnecesary" in the sense that Sylphie didn't have to go to those lengths, but I appreciate it as more characterization of how Sylphie is as a person and what she felt was an important moment from back when they were young.

Sylphy's fears are not grounded in logic, like most of our fears. In her mind, there exists a possibility that the following scenario could transpire: Sylphy: "Hello, Rudeus. I'm Sylphy." Rudeus: "Sylphy? I'm sorry, but I don't recognize you." The scenario she dreads is so emotionally shattering that she may prefer to keep it to herself, relishing their time together as friends, maintaining the guise of Fits.

Or Rudy could respond "oh yeah...... I remember you Sylphy" but then be completely lying about it (I mean, haven't we all done that with someone before, where they come up to you and go "hey remember me? I'm so-and-so" But they look so different than when you last saw them or how you remember them, that you don't recognize them, but you still go "oh yeah, I totally remember you") Since Rudy is the one that says her name first without any prompting from her or anyone else, it makes it more likely that Rudy actually remembers her.

by the way, that ring wasnt what caused the rain to fall. That ring was meant to be a signal for the other mages hired by princess Ariel on standby to make it rain. So it took a lot of mages, plus slyphie with the magic staff to stop him

For context, it has been 8 years since Rudy left Buena Village, to Sylphy, that's enough time to forget about someone. I'll just reiterate what happened, Sylphy is afraid that Rudeus might've forgotten who she is and that's why she took this long to reveal herself. The episode ended with essentially Sylphy doing a marriage proposal to Rudy. I'm so excited for the next episode

In the novel rudy recognize her when she took her gloves off. She has scars on her palm from being burned.

The reason behind it being so extra is because Sylphie is worried that even if there's a 1/100000 chance that Rudy doesn't recognize her, she will never live it down. That's why she pushed it off for so long and would likely continue to charade for who knows how long. So that's why the planets had to align before she could reveal it to him.

Peak Isekai, peak anime and some of the LN fans online even say peak fiction. That hypes me even more for what is to come.

Watching this reaction made me realize that Imagine if sylphie revealed herself right off the bat. Rudeus might not have the same feelings for sylphie and just see her as a childhood friend. It was good that Rudeus started developing feelings to "Fitz/Sylphie" that it made him question his sexuality LMAO so that it wouldnt be like last time where Rudeus tried to fk Sara because she likes him and his thing failed to perform because Rudeus doesnt actually like Sara. I know it is easy for us to say he should have just known, but I try to get in my head how well I'd be able to recognize someone I met when I was 7 and they were 7, and then seeing them again when I was 16-18. This is a bit of a spoiler-ish, but common among most fantasy stories involving elves, but elves also age slower as well. So I think it isn't too far-fetched that Rudeus couldn't recognize who it was.

Rudeus' underwhelming reaction at the end is actually quite understandable, he's still trying to reassemble his mental versions of Fitz and Sylphie into one coherent image. We as the viewers are fully primed for the reveal, but for Rudeus it comes out of left field entirely. Imagine if we were suddenly told that Lilia and Ariel were actually the same person - just how long would you spend looking dumbfounded at the camera while remembering everything from the previous episodes and trying to understand how it all fits together?

Stephen, its been 10 years since Rudy last saw her lmao its been a while. Rudy was with her until he was about 6-7, then he went to tutor Eris. He was with Eris for 3 years then the disaster occurred when he was 10. He is currently 16. I feel most people wouldn't remember someone they knew when they were 6, when they are 16-17 and haven't seen or heard from them since lmfao. Rudy obviously remembers since he was able to keep all his childhood memories since he was reincarnated, while most people don't start remembering stuff until they're about 4-5, and even then, most people dont remember people they met before they were like 10 years old lmao

Not saying this about you guys but I've heard some people complain about Rudy not remembering Sylphy. Considering they haven't met for 9 -10 years. He was around 6 or 7 when they met (I don't remember alot of stuff from when I was around 7 or if I do it's all hazy). In that time frame he's had to deal with Mass teleportation, Man god, Traveling the demon continent, Dying from the dragon god, the fact that she acts different than when he was with her, and add onto that her hair looks different. WIth all that stuff on his mind it makes sense he couldn't recognize her. Overall I think the reveal was okay. Could it have been better? Sure but I think they were going for a tender moment than a shocking impactful moment.

Rudeus's degeneracy has rubbed off on Shylphie. They truly are made for each other😆

One thing people get wrong about Rudy is, that despite all his faults he’s loyal. If he says he loves someone, he means it and wouldn’t do anything to consciously jeopardise his relationship with them.

One thing I want to point out is, if I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) the sunglasses Sylphiette wears are special. They have some kind spell to allow her face to remain hidden. In other words, even if someone knows her identity they wouldn’t' be able not recognize her because of the spells on it. That’s why Rudy never found out about the real fittz identity.

The thing is, there was a previous attempt in the novel, Silphy pretended Ariel damaged the roof of their room during magic practice and Ariel was staying the night with a friend, leaving Siphy in need of a place to crash, asking Rudeus to let her stay inhis room, as the have bunks She was supposed to reveal herself, but chickened out, and spent the whole night going up and down the bunk Thats why the princess decided to go with a more convoluted scenario, in order to trigger that memory Also, we barely had any ]POV from Rudeus, and his reactions are mostly on the inside

Don't forget its been 9 years since they've seen each other. Sylphie is so different from how she was. Also she was white hair nor green hair and red eyes not green eyes. So doesn't act like five year old Sylphie nor does she look anything like her besides facial structure. He most definitely wouldn't have recognized her.

Despite being sus as classic mushoku tensei is that reveal was so wholesome brought me to tears 😭

This episode alone shows improvement in how Rudy interacts/thinks about women/sex etc. He isn't just jumping at the first chance for it. He's improved

I agree with you guys about rudeus reaction. It was kinda underwhelming. I was expecting a crying rudy with a longer scene to really feel the moment tbh but it is what it is I guess.

To be fair how many of your 5 year old friends do you remember? I remember everyone like 10 and up but I barely remember anyone from around 5. lol And I loved the moment, I read the LN after season 1 and ive been waiting for this for so long.. Next episode should be fun... But the next arc, will be even better. Oh and then S3 will be mind blowing.

In the novel Rudy was trying to be a mature person and give space and not feel uncomfortable, and when he was taking his cloths he still had the thought of being a guy special taking his pants, and a memory after taking the glove and that why he ask her are you sylphy? I would encourage you to read the manga. The characters feel much more expressive, Rudy is hilarious and his perviness is turned down a notch. If you like the story so far, give it a chance

Yeah the Sylphie not telling him was super annoying and way too stretched out. It should have been 2-3 episodes max

Love your reaction to this 😊, so please don't drop this series again. I know there is a lot of awkward and uncomfortable scenes to this anime. and the anime adaptation can sometimes get confusing because skipped contex, or they will introduce the context later on. I agree the undressing was unnecessary just the glasses removed will be enough, but they don't introduced about sylphiete scar in her hands that Rudeus will recognize immediately.

It doesn't shock me that a woman had a complicated plan for a simple reveal to make it more romantic. It doesn't shock me that Rudy has no reaction to the romantic moment. Nothing happened out of character.

Going to the woods for the reveal was so unnecessary. The LN makes it seem so much more unnecessary.

I still don't get it why Rudeus doesn't recognize Fitz is sylphy...the hair color and ear are obvious...and now when sylphy reveal herself,he instantly remember it .that$ BS

It was a solid 8/10 for me too. A chill episode overall with wholesome moments. we discovered that sylphie is a freak too when it comes to the bedroom stuff so that upped it to an 8 from a 7 for me hahaha kind of underwhelming reaction from rudy, sure, but I think it is decent for what it is. the characters were true to themselves and the calm, considerate and understanding reaction from rudy shows the kind of man he is slowly maturing into.

As someone who has read the Light novel, and loves both the anime and manga, I gotta say that I was waiting for this event for a while… sadly there’s a lot missing of the machinations on Rudy’s head throughout the episode.

I thought Rudy was a bit understated also. Sylphie was so insecure and afraid that she had to do this elaborate plan after a threat from the princess. I think the Princess just said that to light a fire under her though.

i think the way she went about it was a little cheesy and .....awkward, but I think they showed silfys personality. shes a very Cute and shy girl. (But can swap at a moment notice) so ofcorse her ... emotional confession plan , plays out a little bit like an old Disney princess movie. I think it matched her personality quite well.

Nah I agree. The build up leading to the reveal, at least as portrayed in the anime, was a bit underwhelming in some aspects. Like you said, he didnt truly know her identity until the glasses came off so the undressing reenactment and prep leading towards it could've been omitted imo.
