Sydney tolls costing businesses thousands
A review into Sydney's road tolls is underway as the cost of living becomes a growing issue.
Another toll price hike at the beginning of April has just been added to family budgets, and those living in the city's west are feeling the strain.

Well thats what you get, when instead of using the fuel excise for building major roads as it was intended, the government instead elects to do PPP deals with banksters who are then given a license to print money.

Road tolls the greatest scam
Charging people to drive on roads they paid for lol...never gonna change this system
Not one mention by Sky News that most of these toll roads and tunnels were built with government funds and, in 2007, many were sold ("under concession") to Transurban until 2048 or later. Morris Iemma was the Premier of New South Wales when these roads were privatized in 2007. In 2008, Iemma resigned from the Labor Party after his plan to privatize NSW's electricity system was defeated by his party's members. Before resigning, Iemma tried to sack most of the Ministers in his government in retaliation for the failure of his plan to sell the NSW power grid to a private corporation. That failure probably cost Iemma millions in payoffs. Australia is a totally corrupt country where every politician is for sale to the highest bidder.

I live in a little country town in Victoria. I was planning to take a trip to Canberra, QLD then over to NSW taking the quickest way but my disability has gotten worse (the government refuses to put me on Disability even though I am now bedridden) we don't hear about tolls and how much they cost and would make taking a trip to see family and friends unfeasible on the amount I get. I feel sorry for those trying to make a living. I'm 54yo and I have paid taxes and watched the petrol excise rise since I was 16yo. The government has forgotten that they work for us. sorry rant over.

Curruption is out of control and nobody is doing anything... they are using their positions for financial gain. Approvals of significantly overpriced job quotes all for a kickback for approval.. fundered by the taxpayer. Its destroying this country and we're already rotten to the core on so many industries. Its no longer about what its worth... its about how much a few individuals can milk at our expense
Just to give everyone an idea of how ridiculous the situation is with tolls. I have an example, its a almost identicle situation in qld as it is in all of Australia We have the gateway bridge, it crosses brisbane river much like the sydney system and there is no real alternate route other than going into the city. If everyone did that the system would collapse. It cost THE TAXPAYERS (in todays prices) aprox $400million to make and they subsequently recieve approx $90million in tolls a year with very little true maintenance costs and a service center outsourced to offshore people for the cheapest price, taking jobs away from Australians, jobs generated from Australian taxpayers money. Within 5 years this bridge would have been paid off at todays prices, the bridge has been around since 1986 for reference. Obviously the people are the huge losers in this situation and we've been completely screwed over. But even from a government accounting point of view... this just doesnt make sense unless someone got a huge individual bonus and made it happen.
Fix up Parramatta Road and other alternative routes to the expensive toll roads. I don't mind taking a bit longer on a cheaper alternative road but I resent that my heavy road taxes are NOT being used to fix up old and dangerous main roads in Sydney.
@stopthemediaswaronmen3029

No. They actually do the opposite. They make alternate routes harder to drive on closing lanes to force people to use toll roads.

There are alternate routes. However, the authorities screw up traffic flows and light sequencing to try and force motorists onto the toll roads. This is the political right wing concept of a market economy for the little people, the big guys get a little help from the state.

Not as big a toll on Australia as inflicted by the combined efforts of LNP/ALP/Greens. We have NOT forgotten what they have done to our lives, and our livelihoods over the last two years, ...and we are NOT GOING TO. Bring on May 21!
Any State Government that lets private enterprise build and charge for public transport infrastructure like roads is unconscionable conduct. It puts pressure on inflation as freight has to pass this cost on to consumers. Roads should be fully government funded and free to use. South Australia has no toll roads so motorists only pay once for the roads through the fuel excise. Not twice. Shame on every Government that introduced or allows these practices.
The tolls are called "registration" & breach several clauses of the constitution on free movement.
Everything deliberate & by design
Remember when the Harbour Bridge was 20 cents for about 30 years.
*if it doesn't come from state revenue services - and a debt collector is asking for payment - the services are illegal and not of that which is a government owned roads. DO NOT PAY*

The toll roads are all under contract protection. The only path forward is the taxpayer gets hugely ripped off - either a buyout or a subsidy. What is likely happening is the toll companies are getting worried that people will not return to the office and they are looking for a bail out / buy out for their golden geese. Committee is just political speak for using public money to protect private profits.
The greedy pigs need feeding pheasants
its all irrelevant for the rich
👍👍
I have to disagree with this one, as I have reversed my prior position to the following after intense study. Tolls ARE fair, in three crucial regards: 1. Those who NEED an un-gridlocked roadway can purchase it - which is vital for emergencies and making appointments that you don't want to be late for, while others with less critical need can choose to pay, or forego it. *Tolls make the road go faster, and far more reliably do so.* 2. Free choice. You don't have to pay. You can take the other road. 3. Of course: those who use them are those who pay for them.
@Bill_Woo

3. Corollary: So those who don't use them, are comparatively richer than those who do. How can anyone possibly take issue with that??
