The ferry trip to Manly is magnificent. I've done it 100s of times and still my senses get filled with awe.

Congratulations on finding the ferry trip to Manly. We much prefer Manly to Bondi, and the beaches from Newport north are even better (but difficult for a tourist). The ferry trip by itself is a real pleasure, giving views into the bays off the main harbour - some of those are served by smaller ferries. The ferry is by far the best way to travel to/from work - especially the trip home on Friday evening.

The first part of your ferry trip you filmed is my commute into the office every morning. It’s hell I can tell you! I come back at the end of the day surrounded by people taking selfies against the backdrop. It’s a surreal experience but makes it very hard to take a tough day home. It is such a beautiful city. When you say you’d like to move here I get it, but you are not alone. Have a look at the property prices that result!

Another nice public transport journey is getting the blue mountains train line up to katoomba. Great views from echo point and scenic world is good fun.

Its a beautiful city,its a great outdoors city.

Also take the Rivercat for gentle boat ride from Circular Quay to Parramatta for about A$5. About 50 minutes.

The little beach you found is called Shelly Beach. Looking back in order is Manly Beach, Queensclliff, Freshwater and Curl Curl Beaches. I prefer the northern beaches to the eastern suburbs ones.

I spent my first year living in Manly. I came to know the Manly area quite well during my early life. I like Manly far better than Bondi. You made the better choice. I also love the Manly Ferries - especially the big double ended ones. A little slower but far better in a storm. In rough weather the locals on the lower deck would raise their feet to allow water to pass through from one side of the deck to the other. Mike in Oz

I used to live in Newport. School in the city, so a 2 hr bus ride every day in , and another one back. Recommend a bus ride to Newport Beach, though it's been so long now the bus routes are likely different. They were 187-190. Lots to see along the way.

No, he got it right. Bondi probably is the most well known but not the best beach. But in my opinion as a Sydneysider for 70 years and a keen bodysurfer in my childhood, there are better beaches than Manly also. There’s a huge number of beaches in Sydney, each with its own characteristics, so you can easily pick and choose over time to find your favourite. Mine is Freshwater, for its gradually sloping fine sand and relative protection from Sydney’s north-easterly summer breeze, which tends to chop up and confuse the surf on the more exposed beaches.
