i think the song conveys the feeling of familiarity and comfort they have together - i think in some ways they really are the only ones who understand in each other in that very specific hardcore chef way, which the other bear cooks don't have - but at the same time they have the experience of jointly trying to pull the beef up out of the hole in the wake of Mikey's death which is something so specific that other haute cuisine chefs don't have...they'll always have those two overlapping experiences that makes their relationship so unique + you can see that they're just genuinely comfortable with each other after a while...love that the video can emphasize that aspect of their relationship and affection

Took a break from sydcarmy for a while bc life was getting too busy, but i wanna let u know that this is one of my fave sydcarmy edits 🥹 I watch this when i feel under the weather, never fails to pick me back up, bc it's so tender. it feels like a big hug from an old friend, or finally getting to lie down after a long day & knowing there's no work left to do. Thanks so much curry!

CurryMango,...How do you get it in the pocket every time? You went and dug into the crates and pulled out the legendary hypnotic and haunting John Martyn, dear friend of the tragic Nick Drake. Both musicians sung about loss, longing, love and grief like no other, Excellent choice. It resonates with Carmy's pov perfectly. Beautiful work as always.

It's a case of kismet with my last two edit song choices, my Spotify recommended them to me and they reminded me of Syd and Carmy immediately. I'm honestly saddened that I'd never heard of John Martyn until this week, he was a heart-stirring soulful artiste, it reminded me of when I first found out about Eva Cassidy, and also the great Paco de Lucía from the press coverage on his death. Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging comments, I love music an awful lot so to have others appreciate my song selection as well goes a long way in keeping me motivated. ❤😊

Another lovely meditation/tribute to a show that is THE allegory and passion play of Art as the force for transformation, redemption, and community. But then that show is itself a work of Art, asking vexing question that challenges its, the show's, own aspirations: can Art salve individual's (and society's) most traumatic wounds? Can people truly change? Do they want to change? At the core of this passion play is the allegorical couple, Carmy and Sydney. Will he choose a retreat to the false, fool's comfort of his past (Claire), or will he make that Crossing to the distant shore, the Shock of the New (Sydney). "Fire" is the core metaphor: the artists (Carmy, Sydney, and now Marcus) use the light and heat of fire to transform raw ingredients into Art; the Art sustains, nourishes, makes meaning and community for those who make it and consume it. "That's Fire, Chef." But it is Sydney who is artist as warrior-redeemer: Carmy has the technical genius, but his trauma blinds his vision on implementing it. Sydney is the artist-as-warrior who has the on-the-ground clarity of vision, the warrior's discipline to rally Carmy's defeated, demoralized army. But she, too, has her wounds, her traumas, the enigma of her being both to overcome but remain in emotional exile. The connection between Carmy and Sydney is instantaneous. They share genius-level abilities in their shared Art. They are both of immigrant backgrounds. They know each other's and speak each other's language. There is that instant spark of the eros of Art in their first meeting; the rueful smile he gives upon her knowing exactly who he is, a smile, crucially, that he elicits for nobody else who might have an inkling of who he really is. She knows. He knows. That is their first bonding secret. There was never anything "Platonic" about them. Deniers, doubters, and the dubious desperately need to deny what they see, and oh, so tellingly, bet the ranch on Claire, the Freudian 101 symbol of Carmy's replaying a past that is already the realm of Joyce's The Dead. But strip away the brilliant, subtext-simmered dialogue; forget the now pivotal "Under-the-Table" scene's" recreation of the erotic-thrum drenched Dosso Dossi's "Allegory of Fortune" and Botticelli's "Venus and Mars," in which the lovers in repose in those two Renaissance painters' allegories of romantic, erotic love as "food" for the soul are now Carmy and Sydney; even turn off the volume of these on-point soundtracks of CurryMango's meditations -- and ALL of the other pointed but less articulate "videos dedicated to "shipping" Carmy and Sydney. In silence, just look and see what and who Carmy and Sidney are to each other. And it is all there, perhaps even more shockingly clear: Carmy's never-wavering gaze upon HER , be they in the kitchen, under tables, in that grotty alley, everywhere, anywhere; HER glow and thrum when in his company; the swing and sway of their physicality with each other, a choreographed close gliding of bodies in space and time, captured in each other's orbit: in Sydney's return to him after their impassioned breakups that only passionate lovers can have, there is Carmy's long, longing gaze upon her, now evoking certitude, calm, and gratitude with a man's desire for that one woman, all of HER, THAT desire for HER that he gives NO OTHER woman. To what is so undeniably clear before our very eyes, what can the sentient, awake-and-alive to plain Truth unfolding before our own eyes conclude? Simply this: Carmy and Sydney were NEVER a "Platonic" couple. And nobody ever needed to "ship" them across any sea of Crossing and discovery. Carmy and Sidney set on that voyage together, all by themselves.

As always thank you for your impassioned analysis on this charming and heart stirring pair. Actions truly speak louder than words, so I fully agree with you that even when you strip away all emotive music and dialogue from the show and examine the way these two interact with one another, and the way Carmy treats Sydney in particular, there is no doubt that their dynamic is certainly not platonic. I can't wait to see more of them as they continue to sail their own ship! 😊
