Hi Matthew! Thanks a ton for your detailed and engaging review of SwordIs. I'm David, the Chief Editor here, managing our product additions and updates. For those who might be tuning into SwordIs for the first time, let me just say, we’re as sword-crazy as you are. I'm a historian, an ex-HEMA student, and a sword collector who has probably spent way too many hours watching your reviews-and yes, I've spiraled down many a KZread sword video rabbit hole! It's amazing how one video leads to another until you realize hours have slipped by, right? 😂 My passion for swords has taken me around the world, from gripping an ancient xiphos in Greece to cutting with a real nihonto in Japan. This lifelong passion fuels our mission at SwordIs. We're not just here to sell swords; we aim to share their rich history and craftsmanship with other enthusiasts. We strive to provide detailed, accurate product information to make your shopping experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. To support sword lovers who are keen on products but might not know their history, we're thrilled about a project we're developing: a one-of-a-kind online sword index. It’s set to catalog every historical sword type imaginable, from unique sharktooth swords (yes, they exist!) to the legendary blades of samurai and European knights. This index will be a helpful tool for identifying and classifying military swords, particularly those from the Napoleonic to the World Wars, helping you verify the authenticity of potential new pieces for your collection. In addition to the index, we're compiling in-depth guides on sword maintenance and stories of legendary swords that have altered history. We’re also diving deep into the history and craftsmanship behind blades from all around the world. For all the sword lovers out there, stay tuned for more updates as we continue to share our love for these incredible artifacts 🤓

Hi David thanks for giving some background as to what’s going on at swordis and your personal experience and interests. I see you’ve already got a few articles thrown up looking at some historical sword comparisons, and that is quite a plan to make a large public index. If you are ever seeking out data on a specific sword, or parametric on a given sword family, feel free to drop me a line. Always happy to help when it comes to sword research.

Hey David, any chance Swordis will be ordering swords with long wait times and posting them for sale? For example it seems like kult of athena regularly orders Albions which have a 2 year wait, once they receive them they get posted as in stock for sale

@@FastFash Hi FastFash! I believe that within one year, we will have more resources, and this will be the first area we improve. We plan to work with the suppliers to stock most SKUs we have in our inventory labeled as "custom orders," so we would have most of the items ready to ship.

I recently discovered Swordis and at first I was a little skeptical but they had the sword I wanted and for a better price than elsewhere. I pulled the trigger, and I am so happy with the result. The sword came to me three days early, and the whole experience was painless.

Nice overview Matt. The Yue style sword in particular was a neat pickup. You’ll have to let us know what it weighs. There is a lot of interest reproducing these bronze Jian due to the popularity of the sword of Goujian but many of them are not super functional. Will be really neat to see how this one does!

@@Matthew_Jensen the big money will be pitting it against a steel sword, since everyone always questions if iron/steel weapons just lightsabered through bronze weapons 🤭 Beyond the usual fleshy targets like Mellon, it might be nice to go after something that is similar to a warring states shield. You usually hit some wood so I think that would be in line: see below. >>>> Shuang Hu Dun could be made of lacquered hide mounted on a wooden frame, lacquered wooden plank, or wood with lacquered hide facing, although hide version appears to be the most common.

This video was a really neat concept. It did not look exciting in my feed and I passed over it for a few days - glad it kept popping up, and that I watched it. So . . . I guess the take home is do more shopping Choose-Your-Own-Adventure videos, and make them click-baitier so that I will know what they are!

highlander katanas are cool, I've wanted one for a long time. I'd like the father's sword from Conan the barbarian, hell the Atlantean sword to. not that I need any of that.

I have the Atlantean sword by Windlass and its heavy and unwieldy, as you'd expect. It's good quality for the price but doesn't compare in quality to the Albion. I also have the Ghost of Tsushima sword with the elaborate kojiri and, to be honest, it makes the end of the saya comically heavy. So much so that it can't be worn in an obi. Decent sword for the price though.

I don't think testing a diphos is in the future but you can probably get some idea of durability from the zakazushi i revewed a while ago. I pushed it to failure and it lasted quite well. I think they make durable stutff.

@@Matthew_Jensen Oh yeah, it's from Baryonyx. Skallagrim did a video on it years ago but the review has since been taken down. (If I remember correctly it's because there was an issue at the time with timely shipping and limited stock). They are $60 I think but the grade B is $35 and I think you can buy 3 for $120. Basically, it's machete construction but sword principles. So distal taper and cross guard on something it looks like I could find at Home Depot (if they were cool).

Reviews from neutral parties on youtube or SGB where they actually show the sword in question and go over why it's good or bad I will take into account. Text reviews on a sellers own website, which they can curate or fake, I almost universally disregard.
