A 115/120 handler would fix my EV charger issue. My breaker panel is full, and its going to be really effin expensive to upgrade it. But aslo my AC is only 5 years old, and I don't wanna lay down the cash to swap it out either, just to free up a breaker. grr

You’d still need a 2 pole breaker for the condenser / AC heat pump, but your furnace circuit which is replaced by the air handler doesn’t have to be upgraded to a 2 pole. Did you see if an electrician can put in a small sub panel? Might be cheaper

@@TheHVACDopeShow I'm running heat strips anyway, it's not a heat pump. So it would be an all around upgrade. But I could lose the the second 50 amp running the strips and run a new circuit for my car. It's Texas so a heat pump is fine. But alas I'm not going into debt over it. My system works fine and I have a way to charge that isn't perfect.

So is there some new magic that makes defrost cycles not a problem anymore? I’ve had old school heat pumps and the periodic blast of cold during heating season was not welcome when the heat kit died.

It’s mostly settings available. Like on the Daikin fit it can be set to just not blow air at all and go into defrost without blowing cold air. Also if paired with a furnace / dual fuel setup, the furnace or electric heat kit can kick on (as you mentioned) but we’ve found that the inverters are very quiet and reliably able to heat without some of the same issues as older single stage heat pumps.

No just the air handler the condenser is always 208/240v~ in a residential application at least in the USA and what I’m familiar with. The air handler however is normally 208/240 as well that’s why this air handler is unique and advantageous for a furnace replacement

Which is best for the Portland, Oregon area?

Honestly this air handler with a Daikin fit enhanced would work great in that climate for heating and cooling. You don’t get too cold in Portland being close to the coast (stays above 20F~) which is why the fit works great

A lot of heat pumps that will produce sufficient Heat down to 0° and below not sure why you're still using dated information My heat pump system is an inverter system and it was producing 132 degrees air temperature coming out of the registers when the temperature outside was a 15° during the winter

Look at the videos where I review capacity charts though, capacity drops at 0F for every heat pump even the best cold climate, plus load on the space increases. You still need backup heat if your climate gets that cold…
