In Germany we don't say "That's trash", we say "Das ist Restmüll, Biomüll, Sperrmüll, Altglas, Altpapier oder das kommt in den Gelben Sack" and I think that's beautiful.

Alman ist einfach nur eine Verallgemeinerung der Deutschen anhand von Kischees und ist zurückzuführen auf den germanischen Volksstamm der Alemannen der sich im Zuge der Völkerwanderung, ausgelöst durch die Expansionen der Hunnen, im Gebiet der schwäbischen Alb und südlich davon niedergelassen hat. Das hat dazu geführt, dass in Ländern wie Frankreich und Türkei Deutschland Alemagne und Almanya bezeichnet wird. Daher die Bezeichnung Alman.

"blau machen" comes actually from the literally meaning of making blue clothes, it was a long process in medival times, so the workers had a day off because they couldn't do anything else and usually got drunk, so the meaning of beeing drunk probably relates to that, too :)

My younger brother and I use "Alman" only as a compliment :)) Whenever one of us does something un-middle-eastern, such as shopping early enough for the weekend, planing a trip thoughtfully or in any way being diligent and accurate, the other one calls jokingly but also approvingly "voll der Alman"! :))

I would say "oida" is the Bavarian version of "alter" :)

Montana and Felicia (German Girl in America) are the only two German-related channels I have subscriptions to on youtube. There are numerous others on youtube, but I don't believe they are nearly as good as Montana's or Felicia's channels. These two ladies are both intelligent and personable, making them enjoyable to watch.

In French it's: "filer à l'anglaise" (= take an english leave) In English it's: "take a french leave" as well as "irish goodbye" In Polish it's: "wyjść po angielsku" (= take an english leave) In German it's: "polnischer Abgang" (= polish exit) ... etc Looks like there is little truth to it in the end other than racial stereotyping if you ask me ;-)

@ManorGZK das wort als jugendsprache hat noch nie eine wahre bedeutung gehabt allein schon aus dem grund, dass der personenkreis aus dem diese wort stammt "ehre" noch nicht einmal erkennen würden, wenn sie ihnen mit dem hammer in die fresse schlägt. das sind die art von "ehrenmännern" die zu einer auseinandersetzung zwischen 2 leuten 30 mann und 20 messer verstärkung mitbringen... oder ihre töchter und schwestern töten, weil sie den "falschen" typen gedated hat fazit: absolut bedeutungsloses wort, weil es aus einem milieu stammt, dass nicht einmal ansatzweise weiß was ehre bedeutetet und meist eher für das gegenteil von ehre steht

I would go save here and say it's more like honorable man, as "man of honor" could be a male "maid of honor" for the bride. This could increase the mix up between Ehrenmann und Ehemann. But man of honor would be totally fine :-)

"derb" or "derbe" is a old standard german word (the opposite of a new one) it means something like rau(h), grob, kräftig...

Being an older person, I have never heard either american or german slang words you used. These change with time, but it also may have to do with what part of the country you come from. I came from the New York area and spent time in and around Karlsruhe Durlach. I suspect both of the above situations are true. (ps: no germans I knew ever greeted me with "servus".)

"Hösch, digge!" has been part of Basel slang for decades. I don't think that came from the North. Basically it just means "fatso", so probably came into use in different places at different times.

Gen-X American here and I think that almost all of the American slang must be for Gen-Z use or younger because I would be as hopelessly lost as any German trying to figure out what Montana was talking about myself! 😂 I lived in Bitburg Germany 1983-1987 from 4th-7th grade school years and those are some of the best memories of my youth/life. Watching Felicia's video on Oktoberfest took me back to my time there. My family enjoyed visiting the Hofbräuhaus when we visited München. Thanks for the great content you two provide. Tschüß!

"No Cap" is actually spelled "No Kapp" and it comes from the livestream platform Twitch. "Kapp" is the short form of the Twitch-emote "Kappa" wich is for example used when you say something ironic. It has nothing to do with acutal caps. ^^

Es hat nichts mit Kappa zu tun. No cap wurde zum Beispiel schon von moneyboy dem g benutzt, lange bevor Kappa am Start war

@@jitz10 es Kommt von no Cap= Cap tasten, wenn man etwas übertreibt dann schreibt man normalerweise in Cape= Großbuchstaben( ES IST SO WIE ES IST) no cap heisst also, das du nen real talk auspackst und nicht übertreibst. Deshalb sagt man die sieht über Krank aus, no Cap( ich übertreibe kein bisschen)

"No cap" to me means unlimited.

"Ehrenmann" literally translated means "man of honor".

For Montana: "End..." literally would mean nothing will come after that. Something at the "end" would not be topped ...if that makes sense

Be careful with "Bullen". It's super common but technically an insult. Don't say it to a cop! 😅 Also: "heute gestohlen, morgen in Polen" 😅 Told that line to a polish colleague, he spent the next hour laughing his ass off... 😅

Yes and no. It is originally an insult but it's used so much it's barely an insult anymore. Even some police officers will say that about themselves (not while at work, obviously, but in their free time, like when asked what is your job "ich bin Bulle")

how Poles translate BMW: bald mein Wagen ;). btw in the polish language we have "englischer Abgang". means the same: to leave a party without saying goodbye :)

From part one..the Spezi in Austria we would say Hawara ^^ just thought of it cause ive seen the Kiberer. but derbe we use also in another context.

Random Trivia: "Blau machen" has pretty old historic roots. Before the modern artificial colors for fabric were invented, "making" a fabric blue was a process that included letting it rest for a day. It seems I am a bit old to know some of the German slang words, but I was really surprised that "Ehrenmann" is it. That's the kind of word you'd expect in a 18th century text.

Weiter oben hat jemand erklärt, daß es eher ein Wort der türkisch-deutschen Jugendsprache ist. Für jemanden, der soziale Regeln einhält. Türkische soziale Regeln. Das hat mich erschreckt. Aber jetzt weiß ich, mit dem Begriff besser umzugehen, wenn er benutzt wird. Sprache verändert sich. Es gilt "dranzubleiben".

Actually "Ehrenmann" isn't a new slang word. It's been a German word for centuries and it means "man of honour". "Die Ehre" is "the honour".

Yes, but the inflationary use nowadays is a different story I'd say. Also "Ehre" generally speaking just for something like "well done" or "thanks" in a slang way...

@@stefanmayer3128 That may be, but I disike the new meaning of this term as much as a lot of other distorting expressions; like the new sense of "zocken" for "playing a video game". "Zocken" has always meant "keeping a poker face" at other people you are playing with in the same room.

Fantastic videos, and another term for yack is to talk for example, he yacks a lot. He talks a lot, and goat has another meaning, I'll goat him into doing this, I'll persuade or trick him into doing this. Fantastic videos with Felicia and by the way, I just subscribed to your channel because of the 2 videos.

"Gentlemann" = Ehrenmann comes from the slang used by turkish-speaking young people and stands in contrast to people who have no honor. It refers less to men who stand by their word than to men who follow social norms. Alman "Deutscher" is another word from the turkish Language,. It translates to "Alemane" which stands for the southern tribes of germany but was used like in france as a word for germans as a whole. Then we have Kartoffel which is a derogatory word used by turkish people in retaliation for sadly beeing called "Knoblauchfresser" = "garlic eater" by racist germans. Polnischer Abschied stems from an old saying which basicly discribed polish Merchants who came to trade in germany and left without clearing their debts.

Kartoffel, just like Krauts, and Frogs. (In Italy they have 'Polentoni', Polentafresser, as a derogatory term for the northerners used in the south.) Aren't racists nice people. (But, also observant, you have to give them that.)

I didn’t see anyone commenting this yet, so here I go. “Alman” is actually Turkish for “German”. As in he’s a German Person, not the German language. Just wanted to add this because I felt like in the video it seemed as if alman was a German word which kind of triggered me

So it's a Turkish word, here in the Philippines, we sometimes refer to Germans as Alemans or he's from Alemania.

@TheBlackiwid seriously? Here, when we say that word it's generally used as a 'cooler' term for Germans. I'm sorry for my ignorance, it's just that old historic texts I see that term used to describe the german people.
