Switch to Lumix S5IIX from Fujifilm XH2S - Fantastic IBIS in Old Castle Waldeck

The decision to change horses and buy the Panasonic Lumix S5IIX turned out to be one I shall not regret. I have tried to kill two birds with one stone here by putting the S5 II X through its paces - at least in the areas important to my type of work and also to to a bit of reconnaissance for my ongoing research project, the Rheingauer Gebück. That green fortification went right past the old castle Waldeck in its day.
Waldeck (50.07618709334374, 7.819076300680818) was more important than we now give it credit for. Even the ruins of today are quite impressive. There is a well still 17m deep, cut into the bare rock. It has been covered with a grid (fairly recently) for safety, but must have been a horrible death-trap for the unsuspecting explorer until the current owner secured the site a bit. That well alone was some achievement, back in the day...

Speaking as an ignorant layman, I stopped noticing any vast difference between the IBIS only settings and any after that, even the fully enhanced stabilisation. I do wonder if video makers on KZread worry too much about how perfect their footage turns out, but then we do live in an age where you see endless comments whining about inadequate frame-rates and resolution. Maybe it's my ageing eyes, but I can never see (pun intended) what they claim to be noticing. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more of the beautiful Rheingau region in your future videos, as a former resident of Mainz, I used to enjoy exploring it and developed a moderately healthy fondness for Riesling.

Thanks for that! Yes, I'd always admit to be a right old gear head, but it's the playing instinct we are born with. What can I do?...

An interesting mix of history and kit review. As a non-technical KZreadr, I can’t add much to the discussion, but I can absolutely relate to the desire to keep improving video quality. I started out using an iPhone, but mounted in the DJI gimbal and with the DJI Mic 1. Combined with the DJI app, I found that an excellent way to learn. Next I moved onto the DJI Pocket 2 and I loved the texture of the footage, but found the screen too small. You could connect it to the phone to get a larger screen, but that was cumbersome and ultimately led to just using the phone instead. The Pocket 3 is a massive improvement and it’s probably the best main camera I’ve used to date. Quick and easy to use. Nice quality footage. It does have issues, of course. The most frustrating for me is that you can’t lock focus, without connecting it to the app on your phone. Hopefully they will address this. I also use a GoPro 12 with the Media Mod. Very good at what it does. Not sure if I’ll ever upgrade to a proper camera. I like the “cameraman in the bag” aspect to the DJI products. Looking forward to the next project - it sounds fascinating.

Thanks for that! I do get your "cameraman in the bag" idea - very much so when I find, once more, that I have used only a fraction of the stuff in my 10kg backpack. The footage you produce since upgrading to the pocket 3 is truly amazing. As I said, I don't want to be boxed in by that 20mm focal length. But have I ever used longer shots to any great advantage? I'm not so sure...

For me it's clear: The Lumix is the much better choice. But that is because stabilization is so important for me. If it wasn't, say, because I'd be doing mostly tripod and gimbal work, then I might prefer the Fuji. It's definitely got the superior sensor.
