@@kirin1230 The biggest thing for me is the color quality being better (colors feel more vibrant and pop out more), the sound and the screen size. Its ridiculasly noticible in person compared to the regular switch. I don't think I could ever go back to my v1 for handheld sessions lol. That and the kickstand is way better! If you play docked majority of the time you won't really notice anything different except the OLED dock comes with an ethernet port.

I changed my eshop Region on my Account once to get a dlc for a game that never Was Released in Europa. It Was a big struggle. Will These dlcs Show up in the redownload setting in the eshop or Will i have to change my Accounts region all over again?

I just found out that they are tied to the system. You can move them over with send/receive in the mii settings, before formatting the old system. I had used the 3ds amiibo method until this last time.

Super excited here. Gave my son an OG 6 months ago, and finally getting one for myself with the OLED. I'm sure the kid will confiscate the OLED but at least we will be able to play online together 😆

If you had other Pokémon games, did their save data transfer over? I know the pinned comment says it does but I’ve seen people saying they’ve lost their save data for Pokémon games. Is there another step or do you just follow the steps in the video.

Great tutorial! Since Nintendo is not just going to abandon the regular switch I'm going to be playing my switch because I got it a couple of months ago.

Im picking up my oled tomorrow so this was very helpful!

So to specify, the save data doesn’t get downloaded from the eShop. It gets transferred when doing the user data transfer thing. The eShop just lets you download your games and DLC/updates for them

Bought the switch lite, didn’t know how much I was going to like Nintendo since I haven’t owned one since the regular wii came out.. but decided to upgrade to the OLED! This helped a lot so I didn’t return the lite right away, going to wait, do this. And make sure all my games are on there safely, then I’ll get a full refund for my lite!

So i did all of this and it went well, and i appreciate this video! Im now just a bit worried about that SD card pop up thing I transferred it after the process so it should be all good but idk that text scared me a bit

IMPORTANT as of 3/30/22 (I watched this video several times and wanted to clarify this)- for those of you doing the ACNH switch and are confused about the user transfer and what order you should do them in: KEEP IN MIND when you go through the user data process FIRST, you’ll transfer it and have to LINK YOUR ACCT ON THE OLD SWITCH AGAIN (it looks like everything is gone and this part scared me terribly) YOU CAN OPEN ISLAND TRANSFER APP AFTER BOTH SYSTEMS LINK YOUR ACCT! (The switch comes up with an error message when you click “yes” to using both systems for some reason, so just be aware that this may happen) ANOTHER THING TO CLARIFY THAT’S NOT SAID (but is obvious to some and not me): There are two types of transfer: Transferring a user and associated save data, and transferring only save data. When you click user & saved- you ONLY have to do that (unless you have a reason to click the other option) And finally THANK YOU for this video, I’d be lost without it!

Doing this now and it's kinda a sad feeling, all the stuff done on the first switch I had airshipped to me on Launch day 3/3/17 and everythings going to the OLED, still gonna keep the old one just because.

Thanks for this video. The official Nintendo video doesn’t explain about the micro so card. I understood the transfer part but was hesitant because they didn’t explain anything for the 99% percent of switch owners that have memory cards. Glad I don’t have to use a pc in this transfer process. Just curious, could you tell me if it keeps the game icons when you insert the memory card or does it delete both the game and its icon. Having the icons just makes things a little easier, not a deal breaker. Well explained video👍

I would be greatly appreciative if you could answer a few questions I have regarding this process before I do this. 1. If I transfer my AC island and my pokemon shield and let's go save data AFTER the steps in this video..Will it still work or will my old switch already be wiped of the data for those games? 2. Most of my games are physical..does this mean I need to individually insert each game and re-download one at a time as opposed to being able to select them all from the eshop? 3. Am I correct in saying no save data is stored on my sd card? I know it is going to be wiped clean when I insert it into the oled so just trying to verify that I won't be losing anything important.

I know this is late but yes it will duplicate the games and the accounts. You can not play the same game on 2 switches at once on the same account.

Well..maybe the task of re-downloading all of the digital games from the eShop will be slightly faster when connecting the system to the internet with the new dock + lan adapter..

You can just move your SD card over after you've transferred the user. it will delete all the game data, but your saves will be safe. You'll just have to redownload the games from the eshop

@@GameXplain Are you telling me the new system, after not recognizing the SD card because it’s “being used with another Switch console”, will NOT format it at that point, and it just erases game data on the card leaving any other data like saves or images and videos in tact? That is not my experience at all, it wants to ERASE the card! Please Xplain, lol…

Yep all save data is stored directly on the switch not the cartridge

Question: I bought a brand new bigger capacity SSD for my new OLED; if I remove the SSD card that comes with the OLED out of the box and replace it with my newly bought SSD card before even initially booting up my OLED switch, will that screw anything up or will it be ok?

The OLED doesn't come with an SD card installed so you'll be just fine to install your new card immediately. The SD card is only for storing games, screenshots, and videos. Everything else is stored directly on the console's hard drive: Switch OS, game save data, etc.

Click "No." It's only asking to know whether you want to keep the same profile on both systems

If you say yes, the old Switch will remain the primary console for the account being transferred. This means that the new Switch will be set up as a "secondary" Switch for the account and will require internet to play any digital game.

@@chowdaire7343 Open up the eShop on your old Switch under your profile. Under settings on the eShop somewhere, it say something like "This console is the primary console" for your profile. You can select that and tell it to remove that console as your primary. The next Switch you access the eShop on with your profile will automatically be registered as your primary console. After doing this transfer, you can rest easy deleting your old profile.

Can you confirm that this will transfer Splatoon 2 save data? I'm fairly sure it does, but just checking since i have so many hours in it, lol.

First, thanks for the guide - as someone who gets antsy about save data, I was worried about making this transfer, so this helps. Second, I have a question: where should the SD card be during this transfer - the old Switch, the new Switch, or doesn't matter? (The main reason I am getting an OLED is because my old Switch keeps randomly having SD card errors. So it would be nice to know if the SD will or will not be needed during the transfer.)

@@GameXplain Cool. I will try the transfer with the SD totally removed from both consoles then. Like I said, my old Switch is iffy with it, and I don't want it to crash in the middle of transfer, whereas we just learned putting it in the new Switch will delete game data off the SD card, so rather do the transfer first. Man, what a long winded process. They generate all that revenue from their user base but still can't give us a simple account transfer like Microsoft or Sony. It's embarrassing.
