    I fixed this door design flaw for under $20.00 with parts from Home Depot. First remove the old retainer. Buy (2) angle iron 1/2 X 1/2 in X 8 ft long. I cut them 75 1/4 inches in length. I drilled 4 holes on each side of the door frame. I put the screen in as my mold because it was lighter. Then putting the angle iron in on one side flush up against the door and screen. I drilled the four holes through the angle iron on both door frame side. I used 3/8 inch tapping screws 8 in total to drill through the holes. It looks great and no one knows the difference. You will need one helper to hold angle iron while you screw holes through angle iron and into door. I hope this helps. It's a great door and with a cheap fix you can make it a better door and easier to change. Hope this helps.

    Made the switch fr. glass to screen in just a few minutes. Txs. Popping the vinyl back in was a bit tricky but the video gave me confidence to do it. The glass panel was too heavy for me to carry to store it. So a warning to others to have a strong person around to help.

    Glad the video was able to help you out. Great tip to have help to carry the panel.

    In our last home in Chicagoland, we had a Larson door with flexible, rubbery retainers and used the same ones year-after-year with nor problems. Easy to change out. We bought this new Andersen door last year in our new home in California. The pieces snapped like cheap chopsticks. How the do I order replacements if there is no part number for them and the store we bought the door at (Home Depot) does not carry the replacements and your own site does not offer part numbers. Surely as fragile as these delicate flowers of engineering are, you must be stumping up profits hand-over-fist. Now, give me the part numbers so I can force you to take my money.

    how about designing a doors without retainers!

    Because the old system of simply having a few screws/angle brackets was way too simple. I'm sure you saved money in the manufacturing process by not having to drill and fit screws but whoever designed this system should lose their design and engineering degree.

    I've tried and tried to install the retainers and can only install 3 on my door. The top gap is too large and the retainer doesn't snap into place. not pleased with this "easy installation" at all.

    I have tried three times now and I just can not get the bottom retainer plastic to come out. The top and sides will come out okay but not the bottom. I have put the top and sides back in place and sit here very frustrated. Any suggestions on how to remove the bottom retainer? So wish my door was the 4000 series or the one with the screen built in the door.

    The retainers on my door are broken and the glass is about to fall out. Where can I get replacements? Home depot doesn't have them and your web site doesn't mention anything about replacement retainers

    Sorry I bought this door, thinking I could save money. The design is poor. The retainers do not fit properly and are not secure.

    Yes, terrible design. worst ive ever seen from Anderson. ALL doors should have the 4000 push button and then lift handle and glass comes out. This one should return all money and replace with 4000 series, and discontinue this 3000 crap

  • @mrbill1185
    @mrbill11858 жыл бұрын

    This is a horrible system. ALL doors should be converted to the 4000 series method of push button - lift handle and glass pops out.

    Poor design, clearances too wide on door channel for tabs to work properly. I wish I had gone with my first choice which was a cheaper Chinese design. I won't be supporting the junk this American company shovels to the market.
