Kai Tak is one cool airport but the coolest thing about it is that it's a very rare Convair 990 with those wild rear fan J-79 engines.

Ah I was right, when I saw those engines from the window, that was a Convair. Indeed an impressive approach.

Cathay Pacific used to have Convair 880 in their fleet, so I think it's common to see a Convair at Kai Tak back then. Still, having a Convair 990 is quite rare.

Made that landing many times as far back as 78.. we used to say in the right turn you could see kojaks face on the apartment tvs..

30 seconds before landing I did also see people's TV at home, and some were doing their laundry at the open roof top of their residential building!
