I’ve never understood why hospitals don’t allow bladed tools on premises. For goodness sake these people are trained professionals. They are trusted to handle far more potentially dangerous things than a small knife blade. And they also know when sterile instruments are required. I think they should allow small blades to be carried by hospital staff.

I totally agree, especially given that there are few multitools without blades. I think it is more about control than actual risk to patients or staff. But maybe they are afraid of lawsuits if I use a knife and cut myself?

​@thevineclimber it's always about the money. I work in a warehouse freezer, and they only give us plastic "knives". Real fun trying to cut with those while wearing thick freezer gloves. Of course most of us sneak in real knives.

I've had a few of these now over the years and still have one in one of my edc kits somewhere. Great for light work and totally worth the price but definitely limited. Their key tool is awesome, though.

Build a small pocket tool kit, I carry everything in a little pocket pouch from Temu, a pair of knipex tiny pliers, a pocket knife of choice (you can omit that one), a measuring tape, a tiny ratchet screwdriver bit driver from a bike repair kit and 20 bits in two 10 bit holders (you can do less I work with these often), I have a universal charging cable set up, a small flashlight, a tiny titanium pen and a waterproof notebook, as well as a small flat back up battery, i carry some heat shrink, a small lighter and solder too, but again you can pack what you want/ use. The whole kit fits in my front left pocket and takes up less space than my wallet and phone in the other pocket, and I can fix just about every generic problem I use to have to run out to a tool box to fix. I say this after YEARS of screwing with crappy multi tools that just didn't get the job done, and having the same problem with "if I go somewhere I cant have a knife I suddenly have no tools either" now I can drop my knife out and carry on. The full cost of everything I carry is sub 200 dollars and that's only because I sprang for some nicer things (you could drop the same kit i carry down to 60 odd bucks) the only thing I don't recommend cheeping out on is the pliers. I know personally, I have spent -hundreds- on crap multitools before figuring out you can just carry a package of small BETTER tools for cheaper.

I would add a folding scissors. :) I have just the pouch for something like this. I'm using it for a wallet right now, but it is too roomy for the few things I carry in my wallet. :) This sounds like a great project! :) Thank you! :)

If my care-giver rocked out with an industrial strength Gerber-tool, that had seen use, I would cry tears of satisfaction. That would be more comforting to me than the diploma on the wall by an order of magnitude. And to think, that once upon a time, "society" would have said "Yer a girl, you can't have that".

Oooh what an interesting comment! LOL I'm sure that there have been many times when tools were not for women, and that idea is annoying. Tools are part of who we are as people, and I just hate that we are moving in a direction where it is remarkable to have them.

I just don't understand the mindset they had, where they wanted their wives and daughters to be useless, and wanted it SO MUCH, they enforced it. Makes me super happy that I don't need to always be doing trivial things for the females in my family. I mean, I won't let the majority of them use the chainsaw to cut firewood, but I also won't let three of my nephews do it, chainsaws are DEATH awaiting their chance to strike. All though the age of sail, when there were shipwrecks, or even simple capsizes, the female passengers drowned, because it was impossible for them to swim in the heavy skirts. And sometimes they drowned an EASY swimming distance from shore, or in a river, even though the vessel foundering took half an hour or more . . . Because they WOULD NOT take their skirts off before jumping in the water. There was just ONE recorded instance where on a British Navy vessel, the First Officer ORDERED the female passengers* to "strip to their shifts" ** before the vessel struck a reef, and the whole crew AND their female passengers were successfully rescued. Civilians criticised him for that. :) *Larger RN vessels often carried numerous wives and dependents of British Officers. It wasn't uncommon for a half dozen women to be being carried as guests on a 84 gun vessel. **Very thin garment and soft worn next to the skin, like a long shirt, the purpose of which was to prevent the heavier garments from chaffing the skin. Even men wore them. ) @@thevineclimber

Have the same scissors that are made by Leatherman tools. I work in the ER, general care floor and long-term care. I have never had a problem with those scissors at all. They work fantastic.

+1 for the Knipex Cobra XS mini pliers; combined with e.g. Wera Kraftform Kompakt Stubby (e.g. model "Magazin 4") screwdriver with various bits integrated in the handle - and you would be better equipped than most janitors ;-)

Hola Anne. Here's an idea: get a SOG Powerpint and remove all the blades and then the tools from one side of the handle, and just leaving the ones you would use i.e. file, screwdrivers, etc. Seems like this one be a better option, no? ​@@thevineclimberyes, they have a discout program for vets and first reponders. You have to email them first and they will send you a code that is good for a year on the medium and large sized tools, not good on the small and keychain models unfortunately.

I have several of the small tools. The one you feature is a bit heavy but is much better than the others. I sometime carry it with a micra scissors, pretty much covers the bases.

I emphasize about the "bladeless": Leatherman Knifeless Rebar, Leatherman Knifeless Fuse, Leatherman Style PS, Leatherman Leap (optional knife blade installation), SOG ParaShears and Victorinox SwissTool Spirit XC (tipless “butter knife” style blade). Swiss+Tech toys (initially SeberTech) are unreliable due to the riveting which quickly takes up play and renders the tool unusable. Happy New Year, dear Anne :)

Hi Diezelle! :) Thank you for coming by. I wonder if the riveting is the reason that, more and more, I have to spin the handle around the other way to close the tool... I should know you would have a list of all the knifeless tools I have never heard of. I just ordered a knifeless Rebar yesterday... I can't wait to try it out! :) I never heard of the Knifeless Fuse. The suspicion on SmartKnives was that it was retired because it was still getting confiscated by the TSA, even though it had no blade. I can see that. Most people will want a knifeless tool so they can carry it on a plane. I have a Style PS. I . . . don't love it. It almost made this video, actually, because I have it in my work EDC pouch currently. I wish they would make the Leap again! It is time for the Leap to return! I have a parashears, but I don't carry them because I thought they had a blade, or at least enough of a blade to make the hospital mad. You have to understand that they think a Classic SD is a weapon of war! LOL they don't actually care if there is a knife that could hurt someone, they care that people follow rules, even if they are nonsense. It drives me crazy, but I am unwilling to risk anything about my job just to make a point.

@@thevineclimber Tim Leatherman told me that the TSA regulations were a big problem since even the saw was considered dangerous enough to be banned... So the Knifeless Rebar has a saw and the Knifeless Fuse only a file... I just have to advise you the Leatherman LEAP which is far from being a toy, real pliers, intermediate size (~ Juice) and various colors! :)

Hi George! Yes, it's a good stocking stuffer at around $10, but if it goes up to $15 I would not think it would be worth it.

Awesome tools. Just to let you know, the GERBER has a life time warranty. I have the Swiss-Tech 9 in one and it is excellent for my key ring and light duty applications. Mine made it for 10 years before it broke. My GERBER is nearly 25 years old. Excellent content and thank you for your service.

I was in ER some time ago, then admitted. They dont like knives there. They asked if i had a knife. I sheepishly affirmed. I had 6, which is my normal work day loadout. All specizlized purposes. I really got a kick out of security as the dutifully recorded my "arsenal." They had to walk me off the property to return them to me. I've been back a time or two since but I remember to "disarm" myself in the car.

Hi David! Yes, this one is a bit of a dark horse in the Swiss+Tech lineup; maybe that's why its price is not through the roof! Happy New Year!

Gerber is known as the tools that disassemble themselves as you use them. Do not recomend.I have been carrying the Swiss+Tech multutool for about 6 years. I have two actually. The only issue I have with them is that after a while, the handles become loose at the rivets and I have to take a hammer and punch and reset them to tighten back up, other than that they are a handy little tool that I use quite often. They now have a full sized multitool that is also excellent. It does come with a blade but it can easily be removed and a washer put in it's place to keep everything tight. I also have been carrying the Leatherman Raptor shears for about 3 years and find myself using them quite a lot also. I used the hook to cut the seatbelt of a woman that was in a car wreck and her engine was on fire and for some reason, her belt latch wouldn't release. I use the ring cutter at work one timebecause a coworker was wesring his wedding band like a nimrod and got his hand crushed and his fingers were swelling, so I had to cut his ring off before the squad got there. I have used the shears more times than I can count, most recently I used them ti cut the halter off of a friend's horse that had somehow gotten it tangled in a piece of loose fence wire and was freaking out because it couldn't get free. We both had knives but didn't want to risk cutting the horse so I used the shears to cut the halter off. These are two very good tools and I would definately recomend them to anyone.

What a great comment! How funny about Gerber. The thing is - it's not like I was abusing the tool! It basically stayed in a pouch almost all the time, and only came out for special occasions. I was incredulous when that piece came off, but I didn't realize that disassembling themselves was a feature! LOL Good to hear that the Swiss+Techs are holding up. I almost felt silly bringing this tool to KZread, but it is such an addictive little pliers, and it actually has the drivers... Crazy. I might have to try the Swiss+Tech full-sized tool. What great stories you have about the Raptor shears! I used to work on an ambulance, and it is surprising how often the seatbelt locks. I recommend everyone carry something attached to their car so that they can cut themselves out in that scenario. How terrifying!!! The ring cutter is the best. :) It is so much better than the ring cutters that work like a can opener kind of. And the horse! What a good reason to have the Raptors! You know, maybe EDC scissors are the wave of the future. And I mean REAL, full-sized shears like the Raptors. We all love to have a big knife and are satisfied with a little scissors, but maybe we have it backwards. Thanks for your interesting comment!

The Victorinox Spirit with serrated butter rescue blade could be less threatening, also high polished gives like a medical appearance to it.

Thanks, Gus! I would not get rid of my raptor or Swiss card; they have been with me through so many things. BUT I do hope to replace the SwissTech, in spite of the really fun pliers. I mean, basically I'm carrying a set of pliers with some screwdrivers I would not loan to someone out of embarassment! Thanks for watching!

If you think the SAK pliers might work for you, you can remove the blade layer (you’ll probably want new aftermarket scales, without the cutout). I believe the guy on the “FX” SAK channel has done knife delete mods. I also just learned from his channel that the SAK pliers can be used as a surprisingly functional mini-vice.

You can take a knife off a skeletool, or any multitool with a removable hinge, like the venerable wave+.

I have had this tool for years. It easily fits on a key ring (and in your pocket) when you close the jaws around it and turn the handles up to storing position. The screwdrivers work fine when you need them, which are the few times when you don't have standard size tools at hand or it is impractical to have them with you. The pliers securely grab anything that fits between the jaws. I used this tool n my oftice where it easily removed heavy wire staples of all sorts, among other tasks like grabbing small edges of paper stuck in copiers that were too small to grab with my fingers, tightening the odd loose screws, etc. When a standard sized tool was not right for the job, 90% of the time this tool was. It easily grabs small odd shaped objects, too. The grip strength is very strong and I don't remember that it ever slipped off of anything it latched on to, most likely because the jaws are precisely sqaure to each other. I did not use it often but it always never failed when I needed it. I paid ~ $8 at Walmart and like knowing that I always have it with me as long as I have my keys. Yes, it is of limited use. It's not a hammer, it's not a vise, and it also isn't a drill or table saw. However, it is very good to have when you need it.

Hi Anne, I would also be reluctant to spend money on that tool. But talking about a magnifier, I use the lens on my Explorer more often than I can remember. I often wonder why phones don't have a magnifier app? Would need a dedicated macro lens and light but it could be a 'field microscope' which saves images. But I guess the tiktokers wouldn't be interested.

Steve! There is an app like that! At least in the Google Play Store. I used to have it installed. My dad uses it all the time because he is visually impaired. It is really amazing because it's just like you say - it is almost like a microscope, it blows up the images SO large. I looked but couldn't find which one it is. That is such a great point about the Explorer. Another reason why it's a great SAK. The magnifying glass also gets you the 3D phillips, and my experience with that on the Swiss champ is that it is quite robust. I have tested it numerous times screwing things into dimensional lumber with no problems at all.

Maybe a foldable bicycle multitool along with a knipex cobra XS mini pliers?.... Seems like a good combination

Good idea. I suggested the Knipex Cobra XS in conjunction with the Swisscard or the Vic Jetsetter - no blade but a good little Philips driver and scissors. I did try a couple of bike multitools on my quest for the ideal pocket driver set, but either the Phillips was too small for every day tasks - I think that was a PH0 - or the tool itself was tool bulky, almost the size of a Swisschamp, and as I'd have needed to carry a Victorinox as well with the scissors and other tools it didn't make sense for me.

This is a really interesting point! I wrote a long reply, and it got deleted because apparently I don't know how to internet. Anyway, the point of the reply is that a lot of people have hand arthritis, and a video about EDC for hand arthritis would be amazing. You could talk about pliers that work well, and maybe pens that are better (like the Dr. Grip??) and I don't know, maybe pocket clips are better and front flippers are better than regular... You know what I'm saying. You could make it a video series. I would LOVE to see that!!! and so would tons of other people. I think. I didn't think anyone would want to see THIS video, though, so I could be wrong about that. I almost deleted it, but it has over 3k views. So I really am just shooting in the dark. BUt I can say for sure that I would love that video series.

Awesome vid! It seems like a lot of bladeless multitools focus exclusively on being tsa friendly and not on bringing function or utility to a small tool. Hopefully you can find a tool that both fits your needs around the hospital and the esthetics you need to use it around patients 💜

Hi Ducypoo, that is a really good point. That tool is TSA friendly, I would bet, but the small screwdriver (and large, too) function is not so good. Hmmm... Thanks for the message. Interesitng they don't mention it is TSA friendly; probably everyone is afraid to have to give back a bunch of money when the TSA starts deciding that pliers are also weapons.

I work in a prison so tools of any kind are forbidden, luckily for me I have a gerber shard around my neck that gets used for opening boxes, paint cans and I even managed to take apart an vehicle inspection camera with it. The best thing is nobody bats an eye and just see it as a bottle opener.

That is so interesting. I carried a Gerber shard for a long time and I think they accidentally replaced the Philips screwdriver on mine with a tool designed to strip out Phillips screws. I am EXTREMELY impressed that you took apart a vehicle inspection camera with it. I assume you didn't just smash it with the pointy parts until it busted open. That is kind of one of those EDC victory stories, you know? Where the thing you carried came in handy and everybody saw you as the hero? Cool. :)

To be honest, 15 years of being around prisoners has made me quite resourceful when it comes to improvisation of tools. The shard is certainly not the best tool for a neat job but I did manage to get into the camera using the philips, I did slightly mangle the screws though but it got the job done, I always have it on me, I have come to respect it as it is always hung around my neck providing me with just a little bit of functionality.

Happy New Year Anne. I just got the SwissTech 19 in one as part of my Christmas haul. I haven’t had time to try it out. I mostly wanted it to put in a micro tool kit. I don’t have real high expectations as no multi tool works as good as a single purpose tool. (That statement may ruffle a few feathers.)

I'm sure that is true, though - even I would use my big scissors instead of the Swiss champ scissors on me if it was sitting there when I needed it! But much of the time, it is not sitting there, and it's not enough better than my Swiss champ that it's worth the time to go find it. :) I have seen the 19 in 1. It looks very interesting; lots of stuff... I find that kind of thing very tempting, but the prices are so high right now.

I used to have one of these. I used the hell out of it. Eventually the pliers got some play in them and they fell off my key chain while I was on a walk, I definitely got my money's worth out of them though

Take a look at knipex cobra xs AND 125, the 1st time I used my knipex 125, no pliers gets my attention anymore. Parallel grips is far far far superior than ordinary crossed grip, just using to feel. I let my leatherman home now... there is no match for knipex cobra 125, the xs is smaller, but lacks grip, handle size for tork and comfort... try this pliers, you will regret carrying any other... super quality, super strong, the 125 can grip as wide as 3/4 pipe, can handle bolts for oxygen tanks, can grip to straight shiny rounded surfaces with no problems os slipping, and many others uses... even if you do not like,use or buy, you must take a look... From an hospital friend :). Radiology...

If I may make a suggestion, I'd recommend checking out the Swisstech 6 in 1. In your case less might be more. You lose the small drivers but gain a whole lot of stability. I have one that I bring out in combination with my Victorinox compact and it's small but mighty!

I just took a look at it. That is a great suggestion! The reason I didn't buy that the first time is because it costs more than the 8 in 1. So I made a camelcamelcamel price watch on it if it ever comes back to $10 I'll get it! Thanks! It may save some room but do all the same stuff, and without all the craziness...

@@thevineclimber 🤣 🤣 I love my Goat but I really can’t recommend it to a normal person. I do say that a few times in my vids. :) All minor fixes except the short can opener. I hope they improve and survive as a company. They’ve been pretty quiet for awhile. But yeah; get a Goat already! No knife safety cutter. Swap if you want when you want. I love the craft blade too. Really tho don’t get a goat unless you watched at least my first few or so vids and still think you want it. I could do a 5 or 6 month review sometime soon. 👍🏼to you & your vids:)

You can fix the Gerber by buying a masterlink that is used for like a bike chain, just get the right side.

I have an old Swiss+Tech pliers with only 2 screwdrivers. Not as versatile but more stable

Wish there were more bladeless multitools. A knife is my least used item on multitool, because I often have my small opinel which is perfect for peeling fruit, which is my biggest need for a blade. Seems like you mostly need pliers, so I suggest looking at the Knipex Cobra in the smallest size. Here's some other suggestions for you and anyone who might be looking for bladeless multitools - leatherman Knifeless Rebar - Leatherman Multitool STYLE PS - Gerber Dime Travel But honestly, there's way too few bladeless multitools. Personally I once ground out a multitool knife into a prybar, and I have used it that way ever since. Sharp enough for opening packages, not sharp enough to cut anything.

This is a great comment; thank you Pedro! I have many times considered grinding a knife down - I watch Daphne Devi and she did the same, but she made hers a butter knife. Then I could literally carry any multitool! :) I like the idea. I could see myself doing it someday. I have to think about why I haven't done it yet...

hey! i've got one of those lil swiss-Techs! most screwdrivers on those small wrenches are fairly useless in most instances but in a pinch if you need something and it happens to be close enough to work you can get by which is what those tools are really for! it's handy too because you can clip the plier portion around a keyring to keep it at the ready. my main EDC is a Gerber Suspension, have another old one that i snapped one of the needle nose tips on but was my fault lol. i'd have never thought about the uses for some of these in the medical field, i feel like you should write to Gerber and i bet they could throw together a nice multi-tool with everything you need in one package that's also bladeless! they're always changing their designs and making specialty tools. some of them also come with bit drivers and a few screwdriver bits to use with them. i know some of the tools you can actually order different inserts for and change them out if you want so if you wanted to remove the blade package from one in particular because it's really good and has a lot of uses you can do that as well.

The Gerber suspension nxt fascinates me because it has such a low price so often. I always want to buy one. Anyhow enough of my multitool daydreams, this is a really good idea! Thanks!

If someone came up with a compact folding plier with a hex bit adapter and a decent pair of scissors, I think that would be an ideal knife-less EDC item.

Hey Anne - Great video. With the exception of Victorinox SAKs I am not a huge fan of multitools - there always seems to be a compromise in use. If pliers are the most important need for you - have you considered the Knipex Pliers Wrench XS? This is a chrome plated- smooth jaw version of the Cobra XS pliers and would not look out of place in a hospital. These are quites expensive - but are flexible and sturdy. I have not tried them myself yet - but I use the Cobra XS a lot....

Cool little tool Anne. It’s weird working as an aircraft mechanic at a major airport I see TSA giving people such grief over sharp & shiny things and thankfully (for us) we can walk through with a whole bag of things anyone could use as a weapon plus blades up to 4 inches long. As long as it’s work related it’s cool but still when I think about it it’s kinda strange. I assume at a hospital it’s the same. It’s filled with needles, tools, scaples, etc., but security gives people fits about carrying certain items on themselves 😔🤔great video as always Happy New Years!!!

I am not an aircraft mechanic, but i also am allowed to take tools into the airport area with me when work related. (ATSEP) It's kind of strange from our view that hospital personel themselves are not allowed to have a cutting blade with them. I mean the Leatherman raptor has longer blades than the small Victorinox pocket knives.

The only negative impact it had on me to this day, is that i can't enjoy the widely liked "christmas movie" Die Hard 2 anymore. 🤣 (the part with the instrument landing system is portrayed so wrong that it almost causes physical pain 🤓🫣 )

The Leatherman style PS would of been a good tool for you. However they retired it in 2023 and now theyre going for insane prices on ebay even used. I bought one for my 7 year old this past summer he loves it. Swiss Tech makes good tools for their price. I have their one multitool knife and its well made.

You can try the Leatherman Style PS or Knife less Rebar(looks less intimidating)

Consider the tinker deluxe. Great little tool and Victorinox is ubiquitous and non threatening. It will not upset the sheeple

Yes, the Tinker Deluxe is very cool. The only problem I have with it is that I want to keep adding tools to it until it is a Swiss Champ! LOL I don't actually think that anyone cares about the knife itself; I think it's more of a policy that they like to stick to. I don't agree with it, but I do know that I should not violate too many of them if I want to keep my job!

I pulled out the MP600 bladeless to help a radiologist with a really cool problem, and I felt like the hero, but I was asked immediately if there was a blade on that tool. Not by a boss kind of person, either - just someone who wanted to catch me breaking a rule. :(

Sounds like a good idea for a tool that needs some tweaking. I own a few Swiss Tech knives and tools. The knives seem to be better than the tools. Because they're inexpensive I understand, and put up with, their limitations.

Got one. One side of the screwdrivers flops around now. You can't tighten them. It would be great if the plier handles locked. They don't. On the other hand, when you need a set of small pliers or a driver, they're there. It's cheap.

Totally agree. That seems to be the best with this - it's inexpensive and super small and the pliers are actually pretty cool.

Good solution for your scenario. I too have a Gerber MP600 bladeless and it's good and robust (mine hasn't broken) but the thing is too big and heavy for pocket carry and a bit unwieldy when using interior tools like the drivers, as they are then off centre and you have the pliers tip jabbing in your palm. Looking at your usage scenarios I can see Knipex Cobra XS pliers doing those tasks well i.e. turning oxygen tank valves, and opening bottle caps. It would work well paired up with a Swisscard, or a Victorinox Jetsetter (no blade, good little PH1 screwdriver). However it too may look out of place in a hospital setting. Also I'm a bit of a German tool fanboy.

Oh yes! I don't know why I never carry mine in the hospital! My husband gave me one... actually I think he ordered it for himself like a year ago and saw me looking at it (he didn't know I actually took it out of the package and played with it, then put it back before he came home so that he would think he was unboxing it for the first time!) and then gave it to me. :) Honestly, I could pair that with a bit driver of some sort... Thanks; thats a great idea! :)

@@thevineclimber My fave bit driver is the Wera 813. It's about the size of a bic lighter and I think you can get them for around 10 bucks over there. I like my Swisschamp but some days I carry the Knipex, Wera driver and bits, and my Climber or Farmer X. Pretty capable toolset all in all.

Look at GOAT multitool. It is modular and you can swap the main blade for a safety cutter or another tool.

Yes, raptor is great, but they should make a bladeless skeletool. skeletool is my most used item.

@@thevineclimber for me as I am in the countryside, I would like a wood saw as good as those on swiss army knives. or scissors for city/office also I would be ok with bladeless multitools also because I carry a main knife, and if I go somewhere where I can't have a knife, it would be good to still have some tools.

Interesting!👍 Swiss+Tech has neat ideas, but sometimes execution is lacking. You have my sympathy. For more than four decades, I went armed in an increasingly nonpermissive environment, but my workplace never questioned multi tools or folding knives. People shying away from them indicates a societal problem.

Oh, Lane, this is such an interesting comment! I laughed out loud at the sentence that execution is lacking for Swiss+Tech. :) Oh, this is so interesting and I would love to talk about this but obviously it is not an appropriate topic of conversation here! :) But I do want to comment on the sentence that "People shying way from [multi tools or folding knives] indicates a societal problem." I could not agree more. And I have so many thoughts on why we are at this point. Many people always think that there will always be someone to take care of them. I have some kind of distant relatives who used to live in a city, and neither of this couple could drive until they were in their 40s, and they have no idea how to use power tools, and even hand tools are mostly beyond them. I was totally puzzled when I met them, having grown up in a different type of environment, but honestly, if you live in a city and work a job that doesn't require tools, you don't need a car, and your landlord is required to fix anything that breaks. Why spend the time learning these tasks? And HOW do you even learn how to work on stuff around your house if you literally are forbidden from doing so? So I get that, but once folks who are used to that environment, and are uncomfortable with doing things like that, and see those kind of tasks as something for "other" people (implied that they are lower) to take care of, then they get jobs where they become bosses, they do not see the need for people to be self sufficient. I'm sure if I complained to the facilities staff about the refrigerator door being loose because it requires a screw be tightened, they WOULD come and fix it, but how on earth is that the best use of their time? Even getting ahold of the right person would have taken me longer than fixing it. I get really worked up about this, because I see it, too. The rise of a ruling class that prefers helplessness among anyone that is close to them. But what is good for the human soul is doing, creating, fixing... Without that we all become like robots in a system that claims it will take care of us.

@@thevineclimber You're welcome :) Feel free to run with it. It's a general term I picked up over the years and am often surprised it's not used much in the knife/edc/multitool community. Like, a Victorinox says: "Don't worry. I'm just a set of tools that happens to have a sharp butterknife included. I belong in polite company." And a kukri says: "Whosh there! If you set me off, I might send you off!"

I've tried a few of the smaller, keychain Swisstech folding pliers and just couldn't get along with them. The one you have looks really cool but your driver demonstration really kills it for me 🥴

LOL You should have seen it when I took apart a mouse! (computer mouse.) It was SO annoying, if it hadn't been someone else's mouse, I would have thrown it in the garbage rather than put it back together! Then I deleted that part of the video because, like really, I need to provide video evidence of dismantling someone else's computer just because they aren't in? Hello Damir! Your channel looks very cool. You restore old SAKs? How neat! I will see if my phone has the option to give subtitles in English so that I can understand. I don't know. I have put much consideration into this, because I want to make a video telling Victorinox what I think they should do LOL. They should make a whole variety of bladeless SAKs. The Super Tinker comes to mind, and I think they should consider a bladeless Companion, but the problem with that is where would they put the nail file? Oh, I should ask you this question!!! Are there any tools that can take the place of a blade on a SAK? Will anything, for example, go in the spot where the knife is on the Sportsman or Companion or Cadet?

I can speak english but since I am new into making videos, making them in english i a level of complexity that would just hinder me. One day I will switch into english. Damn! I have totaly foregot about the nail file or the combo tool! Removing the blade i not just removing the whole layer. Damnnnnnnn! This is now a whole new level.... Hi Dee! I think it's discontinued. The only one I know about has a blade, too. I think I had it. I have lost or given away SO many of those Squirts and Juices over the years! So sad they got rid of the Juice lineup.

I'm a HUGE multitool fan! Leatherman is my absolute favorite. I would suggest the knifeless Rebar for $79 depending on how much you want to spend. I watched your video on the SOG Powerpint after receiving one. I really enjoyed your explanations, very informative yet entertaining. God bless you for what you do and Happy Holidays.

I had a thought while you were talking. What if your mp600 could be painted blue or pink or yellow? Color can make a difference. Obviously it’s not going to fix the screws falling out…. ya need loctite for that.

Lol Maybe I could just cook the whole thing in blue. Loctite now that you mention it! Even if it looked silver colored, that would be a huge improvement honestly. I really think a nice pale blue would be awesome on that. It might not even be ugly, then! But it's got this icky black oxide coating on it. I'm not sure you can paint that. But even if I could paint part of it, that would be such an improvement. I'm gonna look around into this and see what I can find. Because honestly, that would fix a lot of problems.

@@thevineclimber: well in my expert 20 minutes of research (haha) I found out that Gerber tool is indeed stainless steel and is black oxide coated. Chemically, I could not find a way to remove the oxide layer. You might be able to powder coat it blue but that is a lot of messing around, tools and paint and a toaster oven to buy.

& TSA-friendly to boot!

A little. I have an ugly black one because it was on sale. I haven't put any time into it, really, although I understand it is really good quality. It has a blade, I think, so I can't have it at work (size doesn't matter; even a Classic SD is a knife). I am planning on having it in the At Home Multitool series. :) Thanks!

No guns or knives allowed at my hospital either. I ignore it… I’m not the target audience and certainly not a threat (despite being an honorary grumpy old man)… and discovered that the recently installed metal detector at the ED entrance is not triggered by my SAK. Between my boss and coworkers I get asked at least once a day for help with a task that can be accomplished by my SAK. And when my boss once mentioned that no weapons are allowed on campus, I said “it’s not a weapon, it’s a tool!” (Just like our scalpels, scissors, pens, etc…) He kindly dropped it, after all, he’s gonna need my help again within the week. 😂 In summary, I say just carry a SAK. 🤫

But I am reasonably sure it would not be dropped here, as there is an entire army of people who are mad that they are not allowed to carry what they want and therefore have taken it upon themselves to make sure the rules are enforced on everyone. Which I do understand. Can you imagine if you had to call facilities services because the doorknob and fridge door had handles that were slightly loose? I am hard pressed to think of an object that would not be a weapon, if used the wrong way. Remember how all those 80s TV shows had people getting smothered by pillows? So I think that your point is well-taken. But our rule is actually "no knives" so I guess I can bring a billy club. Except that I don't WANT a weapon, I want a TOOL. Oh my gosh I'm getting so annoyed. LOL It is interesting, I think - as a woman, you really are not the target audience, but if you really were a man, then you kind of would be. It is a type of reverse sexism that is implied that is now also irritating me. Anyhow. Tools. Let everyone participate in society. It's a thing.

⁠@@thevineclimber a pillow 😂 Yeah, I totally get that about if I can’t then we all can’t kinda thing, especially for military folks. In Seattle I don’t know anyone else other than me who cares. Or maybe we are all just on the down low. 😝 What’s bonkers is that with the unions I can’t technically can’t repair anything in my space… maybe it’s like that where you are too… I’m pro union but I roll my eyes at that and repair whatever I can… not much in a hospital setting… I think the other disciplines are safe from my encroachment. 🥴 I think I meant by non target that I’m simply an employee without a track record of being a violent hot head (though if we’re honest we can probably fold in being a woman as a factor… I can be a hot head, but I just grumble vs try to pulverize something or someone)… I will say, our patient population can be more than a little scary, and having little to no means of self defense isn’t the best feeling. But a SAK tool is hardly gonna help… certainly my pen or desk scissors will be more constructive… or as they say in training videos… throw a tape dispenser. 🙄🤦🏻 My best self defense is 100% deescalation or running… my special set of skills does not include combat… unless arms flailing like egg beaters counts. 😂

Like you said, I really don't think that a Swiss army knife is a very good self-defense tool although certainly, if it's all you've got go for it! OK, I've written this response 3 or so times I've deleted them all because I think I said anything in them that might be objectionable to you tube. If you ever get to the middle of the country, let me know and let's do breakfast. Then we can say all the things about the things that you can't say on KZread because they can imply other things.

Try a nextool sailor mini. But: you have to buy the pliers version and the scissors version and swap the knife on the pliers version for the file on the scissors version... not ideal but maybe works for you

@@thevineclimber the channel max lvl edc did it to take it through TSA in an airplane trip. That way is a bladeless tool. I myself own both versions of the sailor mini and it is a good quality affordable little tool. But if you need a powerful little plier, a knipex cobra mini is a great option

I hate that hospitals have a way to keep you from carrying protection, tools, and even a small blade. That should be unconstitutional you have the right to protect yourself at every single place.

However surprising it is to see a medical personnel using a multitool, I could accept it. But... how do you disinfect/sterilise it? It should have lots of cavities in which all the possible nasty things may lurk...

Why any patient in his right mind would be freaked out by anything that was mentioned here to work on hospital equipment is beyond me. It's not like you going to operate on them with it ,right..?

Oh, they don't check at the entrance or anything. I'm sure I could carry in any number of knives if I wanted to; I just don't want to disobey the rules. Or rather, I do want to disobey the rules but have found that this is a really great reason to try out some other multitools!

Oh I was just thinking about what you said. I think you mean that the Victorinox card has a knife. The one I bought is called a letter opener, although I'm sure it could be sharpened. I see that the Victorinox website now calls it an "emergency blade." Maybe mine's different? The Amazon listing still says letter opener.

Could you just buy a nice leatherman or something similar and use some tools to remove the blade from it?

Maybe. I have thought of a GOAT tool. The day after I made this video I just bit the proverbial bullet and bought a Leatherman Bladeless Rebar. The thing I realized is that, even if I am willing to deal with the crummy drivers, this is not the kind of tool you can loan someone without a lot of explanation, and that's just not cool! I have looked into getting a GOAT tool or a Roxon (I think that's the brand) that can have the blade removed. I have thought about breaking the blade off - Daphne Devi did a mod like that and made a butter knife out of her knife for a trip to France. So long story short, I have considered many options, but I have not removed any blade. I am kind of worried I'll lose parts or won't be able to figure out how to use washers to replace the blade.... I appreciate the challenge, though! Maybe someday I will accept it! :) Thanks for writing! Anne

LOL X shears - my husband has them. I tested them, but I think I deleted the videos. Too bad, so sad, gonna have to stick with the Raptors! I mean, Raptors are named after a ferocious bird, so they have that going for them. Your scissors are named after a letter, kind of like on Sesame Street. 🤣

Just carry a mini oxygen tool wrench in your pocket and ditch the Swiss tech tool.

Huge no on the multi tool shears in a clinical setting. If you want shears, then have purpose only shears for clinical use that are easy to disinfect. The “multi tool shear” would be difficult to disinfect going patient to patient given it has so many surfaces and crevices. Having said that - I carry a leather man in my truck, not my nursing bag. Yes - I am a nurse, 3+ decades.

You know, you really do make a good point. It takes me a while to clean the raptors between each use and because rich at true budget EDC and prepping had his raptors get rusty or something, I have also taken the time to dry it off after every caviwipe or bleach wipe. It actually does take a while. This little thing is easier to clean because there's so much less surfaces on it.

your patients are weird if a tool freaks them out. i am way more freaked out by the myriad of ways a simple mis-diagnosis could hurt you.

LOL you are not kidding! Maybe they worry that they have been misdiagnosed with a dental problem, and think I'm there with the pliers to "fix" it!! :)

Get yourself a pair of 4" Knipex and be done with this flustercluck.

Scalpels everywhere, but cant have a knife. That is about typical human reasoning.

Because you work in a hospital, you wear a piece of jewelry around your neck that rubs against your skin at night (collecting sweat, dust, and other bodily waste) and collects dust during the day. The same story with rings and bracelets. And then all this comes into contact with patients. Are you even normal? Have you heard about hygiene?
