Swiss historical helmet comparison

This video is a remake from when I was having some account security issues a few weeks back and KZread was having sever issues. This video is on the Swiss historical helmet comparison. This video covers the last century of Swiss helmet design and is a visual reference as well as covering some surface history on the helmets shown in this video they all have their own videos of you want to see more angles and get a more in depth historical analysis. The helmets covered in this video are the Swiss m18, m18/40, m18/40/46, Swiss para helmet, m71, Swiss m88 schuberth. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Please leave a comment with any questions, additional information, or suggestions for future videos and I will do my best to answer them. As always thanks for watching.
Thank you,
Devin K.

I have a green one. I got it for 5 dollars from a guy who wore it during world war two. He was a nice man and he lived down the street and decided to clear out his garage and attic. I really didn't want to take it as he seemed hesitant to sell it when i picked it up. I still keep in contact with him as i hang out with his grandson very often. They both live together and i often visit them both.

just for info: the TAZ83 helmet cover was only available in the finer TAZ83 fabric. The helmet cover you show is a 71 version, first released for the infantry. The TAZ83 was handed over to 'non-combat units' from around 1985 - 1993 and had a lighter (jeans-like) fabric, and can therefore be quickly identified by the fabric structure. The helmet covers, made in the coarser 'battle suit' fabric, were worn by the infantry until they were replaced by the TAZ90 (1990-1993). The first helmet 18 shown has a cover from the early 40s - mid 50s and the secound was made in the late 1960s to early 1970s. There were over 6 different patterns of Helm18 covers (between 1941 and 1964 =)

I just bought an M18/40 with a Taz 90 cover. I didn't think such existed. I actually just wanted the cover but it came with the helmet. This tells me that the M18 was still used and or stockpiled beyond 1990. I now have 3 M18/40's one with the reversible WW2 cover, one with a Taz 57 cover and now one with a rare Taz 90 cover.

Well according to Swiss inventory numbers there isn’t a taz90 cover formally adopted or used for the m18 because they were removed from service in the 80’s

@@DevinK The closer I look and compare with the Taz 90 pattern the cover isn't Taz 90. It is simular. I am assuming what I have as a "Taz 90" cover for my M18/40 was originally on something else. It fits remarkably well as if made for it. It must be a one off custom like job. As I said, it looks like it was made for it and fits nicely. So I will still keep it as a "what if" item. Thanks for your input.

Hi Devin, I really have learned a bunch from watching. I came upon a helmet close to 10 years ago, and researched from time to time until utter I Ran across it again about a month ago, and finally know I have is the Swiss M18/40 sawdust mixed flat black finish. I learn more with each search, didn't know about the yellow orig. undercoat, had to look really close. I am on a mission to know the exact model (I do enjoy the search-n-learn unique things & for years I thought it was German, but really is Swiss, but really originated by German design) whew! mouthful! So, is there a way I can send you a couple pics of what I have? It does have the 3/4 liner with what you showed/described as the fabric covered wire-type liner band. The leather liner is the 3 piece "two-tongued w/gambits" with the adjustable strap as you showed attaching either side of helmet with metal hook/clips and and sliding "buckle type" chin adjustment which actually is olive green painted aluminum. Every time I look closer I discover another identifying feature just now on the inside of one of the leather liner tabs I noticed slight stamping in the leather - finally made out "genuine sheep" have you ever come across this? also on inside of another of the leather flaps is the stamp of the Swiss Coat of Arms. There is a white chalk like letter and number under back skirt: A. 13801. Thanks in advance for your time. Y.T.

  • @DevinK

The m18’s are basically one size and you just adjust how much stuffing is in the pads and the m71 has sized that are engraved on the aluminum liner brackets
