When they say chariot they are talking about the Underground Railroad...when they say Jordan they mean the Ohio river they need to cross to get to freedom... when the say band of angels the mean the quakers and abolitionists who run the railroad. Since I won my appeal, which had my false conviction thrown out, for all that time in prison, I was basically a slave in the year 2003. Right in the middle of the god damn USA. Slavery still exists in the world just like it did then. Mauritania didn’t even outlaw selling slaves until the 1980s, and didn’t ban owning them until 2007, then had to do it again in 2015. It’s still rampant there. Look it up.

I was reading a book by Martin Walker, where at a funeral in the south of France and American was being remembered. The singer a young lady from New Orleans sang this song. So I had to find it and listen. This version is perfect to what the book tried to share. Well done.
