SWIDT - BUNGA | Lyrics They call me a bunga, they poke fun at the accent, yet only speak one language See I’m a bunga, the have nots and the have less, a park bench for an address A bunga, we always blessed with some bad press, our living situation average Just a bunga, I share a room with 6 relatives, we draw heat from a stove top element Bunga, our only meetings are court proceedings, they only love us if its sports achievements Siana, see a bungas what they call that, unless you scoring tries for the All Blacks then you kiwi Women clutch purses, cross roads when they see me And if they see me then it’s usually on the T.V Police 10/7, see police been stressin and profilin Unemployed not because these employees aren’t hiring or cos we not tryin But because we dole bludgers, down low dirty soul suckers Dark complexion so they don’t trust us, dark complexion so they don’t love us English broken, fingers groping, unpaid product Hood pharmaceuticals the only way we make profit We have to die before they pay homage Just a intergenerational cycle where we don’t make progress Don’t forget we silent, when it comes to abuse and domestic violence Tyrants with a smug affliction Embedded too deep into drug addiction and gambling We spend our rent on the pokies, we give a fuck about our families See there’s little to no hope g, emotions isn’t manly You don’t understand me, bunga Life’s devalued in my section, you see we reproduce and have kids, only to neglect em We using our kids as a weapon We the minority, whom should be government funding priority But they perplexed about a flag, only to raise it sky high on stolen land I’m speechless, they really be calling us leeches The audacity, but I guess it is warranted, until they need us, bungas

Also another note where im from "bunga" is a insult to islanders i mean i try rapping this walking the city an will have half the town chasing me down the street... i know a whole island of bungas that speak more then one language so not all bungas are suffering from the same strugle.. this song is good not trying to put it down just something's your saying can go both ways good an bad just depends how you see it

But why would they love you if you're a degenerate that contributes absolutely nothing to society but more crime? You expect people to still respect you? This is what I hate about so many Polys. They commit crime and when faced with the consequences of their OWN actions they start playing the race card to justify their own stupidity!!! It's PATHETIC.

As a whitey who grew up in a PI hood, I’d like to say I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the generosity and open doors of the PI families around me. The mums who cooked for me, the uncles who taught me lessons, the brothers and sisters who shared their enormous humour with me. PI people are a treasure to our nation , but don’t get the same respect we reserve for other cultures. Thanks for speaking truth to this SWIDT, I hope more people hear it ❤️

you're speaking my mind Toko. That's how I feel about our Pacific Islander people in Australia as well. Aussie media loves to claim our islanders people when they succeed, calling them Aussies. but when someone does something bad, immediately they turn to stereotypical behaviour calling their government to deport us. and if we argue with them they say "if you don't like it here go back to where you came from". Just saying, that's why I'm always a Pacific islanders.

The 3 Pacific kids in my advanced Year 11 English class asked me in the middle of our class: “Sir, what’s a bunga?” That question caught me off guard so much I was taken aback. The Pākehā kids just gawked, looked at me, waiting for a response. “Uh, you know....” “Um, nah we don’t. This guy... “Swid-dit?” Is talking about islanders but keeps calling them bungas? Is that a nickname? I’ve never heard of it...” Wow. That generational gap. For our first English assessment I got my kids to explore and find different texts that talk about discrimination and prejudice themes. We watched stuff from the United States, across ditch in Australia and what’s happening in our own backyard. This was one of the texts they chose. They knew this text was gonna be good to use but they didn’t realise how much context there was to this song that they needed to unpack. The talanoa went from “Sir, it’s just about racism” to exploring the colonial roots, histories, positioning and exploitation of Pacific and other minority groups of Aotearoa. They were baffled and confused even more not because of how complex the contexts were but that it was still a living issue today. Mauruuru for providing that honest vā that you and many NZ Pacific artists before you continue to challenge. I didn’t know this song existed before my students but I’m planning on making it part of my teaching material. Also, is your name an acronym or a word coz these kids down here in Lower Hutt Wellington keep butchering the pronunciation 😂😂😂💀

@@jboyj4426 I am actually Samoan for you information! My father is Samoan and Tongan while my mother is cookisland Maori, hence the name. My Samoan last name is Ainu'u Siaosi, from the villages momoa, vaitele in Upolu and salelolonga in Savai'i and believe me, I pride myself in being Samoan. I know all about the "Fa'aumu war call" , so please do not assume I am a stranger to it. I grew up around my Samoan family and my mother performs one hearty "chehoo" call. The point I was trying to get through your head was that we Polynesians are all one. The Fa'aumu may have been originally Samoan, but it is 2019, of course our polynesian brothers and sisters would have caught on to the call and made it a worldwide polynesian trend. Look all around Samoa, our Samoan people like to claim things like vermicelli from the "saigas" to make sapasui, and yet other Polynesians make sapasui, we as Samoans like to claim pineapple pie, and yet pineapple pie is a European dish, while our Samoan ancestors borrowed the use of fine mats from our Fijian brothers and sisters in Fiji. We all come from the same original group of polynesian ancestors, hence our polynesian similarities throughout the Pacific, but it is people like you who cave into the stereotype that suggest we Polynesians are aggressive. Why do our polynesian people find the need in every situation to start fights with other Polynesians?! If we knew better than this, we would understand that this rivalry between polynesian cultures has gotten us nowhere except towards negativity between our cultures. This rivalry is causing our poly youth to misbehave and forget their roots, in cases where Tongan youth are burning Samoan flags, Samoans are burning Tongan flags and nobody is educating our youth about how we all come from the same place, and that in reality we should be prioritising God before anything! Straight up, I am sick of this hatred I have seen amongst our polynesian people. The only way we can conquer the stereotypes put against our polynesian people is if we forget our pride and learn to love one another as God has told us to in the bible!!!!

Don't let another's words define you Or the hurt could blind you Often wish we could rewind to The essence where love never needed to find you Holy waters seeded the minds fruit, refined juice The eye follows the path that I choose So low are the highs we fly to Mind you, so I don't have to remind you On what the masses recline to Sleeping pills in a slime brew Side effects a blind fool primed cool Heavy doses of the sadness that time knew Don't look out for what was always inside you. 1

If Taika Waititis movies were shit and the majority of people hated his style of directing, our media would undoubtedly refer to him as "Maori film maker Taika Waititi". But his movies are great and they win oscars, so we refer to him as "Kiwi film maker Taika Waititi".

Maori were the worst to calling P.I BUNGAS, FOBZ, COCONUTS....It became the norm especially in schools. Maori peeps dont get offended or defensive, its true. Going to an all girls Maori boarding school in the 80's...this name calling was the norm. Rural communities sitting amongst my people, whether a relative was in a relationship with a P.I...the mocking would ensue....u got a coconut bf or is he a bunga? Yeah...so a little history. #dontjustblamethewhities

Yeah I found out that some of the Maoris are one of the racists in NZ. But anyways without the Europeans they would be still eating each other. So be proud Samoans are representing all of us brown people in all genres in the world and also all my Pacific Islanders.
