❤ *Say, "Cheese"!* ❤😀🦅 *_G O R G E O U S E23!_* Fantastic close-ups of E23's glottis. 🤩 For new viewers .... Eagles breathe through that hole, that closes when they eat. So, they can't choke on food and have their airway blocked, like we can. Yes, they could try to swallow huge pieces of food and all sorts of strange things, which could get stuck, but it won't cut off their air. Usually, they'll either get it down, bring it up, or, like we've seen, another eagle will pull it out. 😅 Through the years, I can't recall any eaglet that wasn't fascinated with the reflecting cam! 😂 It's the first time they get to see what they look like. 😊 TYLH! 🥰 Be blessed, everyone! 🙏😇🤗💐💖😻🌻🦅💕😮

​@sunnysunnywu6971 You're welcome! 🌺 Happy to hear that you liked it! 😊 Nobody knows if E23 is male or female, as Bald Eagles are monomorphic, which means that both sexes look alike. We would need a blood test to determine if E23 is male or female. There are characteristics that might tell us, as females are larger than males by about 30 percent. But, since northern Bald Eagles are larger, as a whole, than southern Bald Eagles, it's not easy to tell them apart unless you have something to compare them to, such as in mated pairs, where the size helps. But, if you have a larger than average northern BE male paired off with a smaller than average southern BE female, they might be much closer in size. Then, you might have to observe them mating or see which one lays the egg! 😘 When there are more than one offspring, and after they've grown they are different sizes, guessing may be more accurate. Also, comparing them to the size of the parents may offer a clue. But, BE eaglets will have longer flight feathers when they are in their 1st year, making them look larger. It's been observed that the feet and ankles of females are thicker or their beaks are longer and wider, etc., but that may not be so, in every case. Behaviors can sometimes offer clues, aside from mating/egg laying, but, again, the only sure way to tell, in an eaglet, is through a blood test where DNA can be used, or possibly through a feather analysis. E23 reminds me of my first eaglet, E9. The song "Singing in the Rain" comes to mind when I think of him. He look so adorable and happy flapping his wings in the rain.

Lady Hawk didn't want me to change it. For years she's called me DebiDew! 😂 People are still calling me Debi. Still keep changing my icon or avatar thingy! E23 hasn't fledged yet he/she stayed within the nest tree so it's still technically branching, once they fly away from the nest tree is considered fledging
