I am shocked that I finally ran into this film again. I saw it as a kid and it made such an impact on me that I never forgot about it. As the years passed, I began to believe it was forever out of my hands. Until now.

I saw an ad for this movie on a public bus in 1968 on the way to junior high. It looked kind of interesting. So I finally got to see it for myself.

I LOVE this movie. It is so much better than the remake with Charlize Theron. I saw this one in the theater when I was 14 years old and cried buckets at the end. I play piano and could not wait to bet the sheet music. It's an unforgettable film and did not understand why it didn't receive more awards. I've watched it dozens of time and never tire of it, and it still makes me cry. I miss Sandy Dennis. She had a unique personality she brought to all her films. I even named my only child Sarah -- not because of this but 44 years later perhaps it was part. I just always loved the name.

I love this movie. I watched it way back in 70 or 71 when I was 9 or 10. It made me so sad that Sara had cancer, and she and Charlie didnt end up together. I really thought Charlie be her last until........The story stayed with me and as a movie buff I often thought about this movie. Thanks for posting this movie as I had been searching for it so I could watch it again. My daughter is a movie director and I can't wait to show her this old classic. Thank you so much for the memories.

Thanks for posting this. I saw it in the theater back in 1968, and couldn't stop crying. I wanted her to let Charlie stay (spoiler). All the cast are such talented artists who bring themselves into this dilemma Sara faces.

I had already seen its remake, but not the original with the sadly underrated Sandy Dennis!!! Thank You!!!

One of the great virtues of this film is that the leads were perfectly cast. (Unlike the remake) Sandy off-center, but always in a very nice way. Anthony - needy. With them I could totally buy the story. Netflix it in HiDef if it's available.

Reminds me of a modern Cluny Brown, with Charles Boyer and the great Jennifer Jones, who also unclogs drains. 1946. Loverly, NUts to the squirrels!

I was a boy in my old hometown of NYC during the Mad Men era. The telepnone booths were green before they were made red. And many buses in Manhattan had large illuminated advertising signs above the passenger windows. The fare was still 15 cents for subway and buses.

Yup, I remembered the DMV office was at the location in this film on Worth Street in lower Manhattan NYC but they move it down to Battery Park location At 05:03, 40 cents for a hotdog and a soda in 1967-1968 NYC, wow, nice!

Beyond awesome that we can once again see this courtesy of YT. 'Twas way further ahead of its time than the 'later' version: It might as well have been conceived in the 90's, with its strategy of "let's hire 2 of the most insanely charismatic screen figures of our time, and have them talk a lot -- make sure the camera's always on them, give 'em kooky things to do, and the thinnest strand of plot, topping it off with beautiful sets / color / cinematography. If that don't work, nothing will!" Well, it did, although the color has been steamrolled here and needs remastering (too bad KZread doesn't accommodate color adjustment knobs like the real TV's of yore!) -- also too much digitally-processed cream between the frames... but hey... get what ya pay for, right? Keanu is no Newley and no-one can replace the lovely Sandy... whose movie this was to begin with. Now where's the Criterion version when we need one?

Wow, it's nice to see the adult Anthony Newley in a film. I'm American, the only other film I've seen him in is OLIVER TWIST, made when he was a teenager. Incidentally, I've been in the neighborhood where these scenes take place.

Keanu didnt watch this before making the remake. I find that to be odd. Or maybe its not. Charlize watched the first 20 min and turned it off cos Dennis was so good it made her nervous.
